Shield' actor Michael Jace convicted of wife's murder

A jury has convicted "The Shield" actor, 53 year old, Michael Jace of second-degree murder in the 2014 shooting death of his wife in front of their two young sons in Los Angeles. A jury of six women and six men deliberated about two hours before finding Jace, guilty in the killing of April Jace on May 19, 2014, prosecutors said.

According to Deputy District Attorney Tannaz Mokayef, the was obsessed with the thought that his wife was cheating on him and was very upset that she wanted a divorce.

When April Jace arrived home at about 8pm that fateful night at the couple's home in the city's Hyde Park neighborhood, he shot her once in the back, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office..

Jace then shot her two more times in the legs in front of their sons, who were 8 and 5 when the shooting happened.

The actor then called 911 about 8:30 p.m. told the operator he'd shot his wife and waited for the Police to arrive. Her body was found inside the couple's home along with their boys, who were unharmed. He was immediately arrested and had been in Police custody since then.

Jace, told detectives he didn't intend to kill his wife and only wanted to inflict pain. He had had been out of work for years and said financial struggles put a strain on the couple's marriage.

"I was just angry," Michael Jace told investigators, according to a transcript released Thursday. "All I intended to do was shoot her in the leg. And then I shot her in the leg and that was it."Jace's lawyers acknowledged he killed his wife in the couple's home, but argued he should be convicted of voluntary manslaughter because it wasn't a premeditated act.

Text messages presented during the trial show Michael Jace had told his wife after she had told him that she wanted a divorce, that he had left their home, but instead was waiting with his father's loaded revolver.

He told detectives he planned to kill himself, but couldn't follow through. He also said he shot his wife the first time after she lunged at him.

Jace's now 10-year-old son testified that he heard his father tell his mother, "'If you like running, then run to heaven.'"

Jace had defaulted on the $411,000 mortgage on the home where his wife died, according to the documents

In the year before her death, April Jace worked as a financial aid counselor at Biola University, a private school in La Mirada, California, according to the school.

For Savoy Brown, the son of April Jace from a previous marriage, the verdict brings some closure.

"Finally it's less of a burden," he told reporters outside the courtroom. "It feels really empty because that's my mom. It's the person who literally brings you into the world and she's no longer there."

"The Shield" offered the biggest role in Jace's 22-year acting career. He appeared in 89 episodes as Julien Lowe, who started as a rookie officer in an inner-city Los Angeles police precinct and was promoted to a detective before the series ended in 2008.

The actor appeared to be under severe financial strain in the years before his 2014 arrest, according to court documents obtained by CNN.

Jace filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy in March 2011, citing $500,000 in debts and an annual income of around $80,000 from residuals from his TV and film work, documents said.

Jace is expected to be sentenced on June 10. He faces 40 years to life in state prison.

World's most expensive bag (Hermes Birkin) sold for over $300,000

A Hermès Birkin handbag, described as the "rarest, most sought-after, most valuable" of its kind, by Christie's auction house broke records at a May 30 auction at its Hong Kong location.

The matte white Himalaya Niloticus Crocodile Diamond Birkin was sold for $300,108 which now makes it the most expensive handbag to sell at auction, topping last year's sale of a $220,000 bright pink crocodile skin handbag by Hermès, which also sold at Christie's in Hong Kong.

In a 2014 interview, 1stdibs dealer JaneFinds told Vogue that the 18-karat white gold hardware and 8.2 carats' worth of diamonds aren't the only rarities.
She said:

"This bag is made of Nilo crocodile, rendered in a subtle coloration that is meant to evoke images of the majestic Himalayan mountains. This dyeing process is painstaking and takes many hours to complete—the lighter the hue, the more difficult the process."PETA has since taken issues with the company for using crocodiles to manufacture their bags.

The world's most expensive purse, however, is still Mouawad's 1001 Nights Diamond Purse, which is valued at $3.8 million, and has more than 4,500 diamonds.

Man U's Jose Mourinho promises not to 'enter fights' with Man City's Pep Guardiola next season

New coach of Manchester United, Jose Mourinho has kind of promised not to enter into squabbles with new Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola next season. Guardiola and Jose Mourinho's rivalry can be traced back to their time at Barcelona and Madrid respectively where they engaged in so many media slurs and at one time Mourinho even poked the eye of Guardiola's assistant.
The former Real Madrid and Barcelona managers recommence their rivalry at the helms of United and Manchester City this summer. But Mourinho, who also gave a glimpse into his £200million transfer plans, says focusing on the man that once called him 'the f***ing boss' could allow an outsider to take the title.

While in Spain, Mourinho says he could afford to bash the EX-Barcelona coach because there were no other sharks but in England you can’t take your eye off the prize and just focus all your energy on on opponent this season or it'll cost you.
Quoted by the Daily Mail, Mourinho spoke about the truce with his former rival:

(What has happened in the past) does not allow me to be innocent. For two years Pep and I were in a league where the champion would be either me or him, Real Madrid or Barcelona."

Speaking at Lisbon University's Faculty of Human Kinetics, he added: "In a situation like this, individual fights make sense because they can influence things.
"[But] in the Premier League, if I focus on him and Manchester City, and he on me and Manchester United, someone else is going to win the league."

Leicester were the shock winners of the latest Premier League title and Mourinho expects the competition to be as fierce as ever next term.
He said: "The level of the Premier League is going to get better with the players and coaches who will come.
"Four champions in four years (Leicester, Chelsea, City and United) shows how competitive it is, and also says a lot about the television rights and its distribution, which will allow the growth of the league and all its teams.

"It is different to other leagues where the sharks will always be sharks.

Four people, including a 24-year-old trader killed by a mob in Niger State over allegations of blasphemy

Religious violence broke out in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger on Sunday, May 29, leaving four people dead, including a 24-year-old trader, Premium Times, reports.

Njideka Agwu, a major and the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations Officer (APRO), who confirmed the incident to journalists in Minna, said the army, police and the NSCDC had restored peace in the area. She disclosed that a 24-year-old trader based in Padongari, identified as Methodus Emmanuel was killed by a mob over allegations of blasphemy.

"Three other persons, including personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps also lost their lives. Troops of the 31 Artillery Brigade of One Division, Nigeria Army, quickly intervened and restored law and order while a dusk-to-dawn curfew was imposed in the town,"’ she said.

Ms. Agwu also said that a religious house, a house and a shop were burnt while 25 other shops were looted following the violence. She said that the hoodlums embarked on further violence on Mondaymorning, looting shops and blocking the Lagos – Kaduna road, a major highway connecting the northern and southern parts of the country.

The spokesperson said that the army had made some arrests in connection with the incident, adding that the suspects had been handed over to the police. The army and other security agencies have commenced confidence building patrols in all the nooks and crannies of the area toward restoring peace.

"As part of measures to de-escalate tension and ensure lasting peace in the town, the military is working with the local government council authorities and community leaders, including the Kagara Emirate Council, to pacify all aggrieved parties and build on the peace so far established,"’ she added.

Ms. Agwu while reiterating the army's non-violent approach to maintaining peace in the area, however, warned that it would deal with any person attempting to promote violence in the community.
