Presidency replies Emir of Kano after he berated the Federal government for seeking $30bn loan

Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, on Friday berated the President Buhari-led government for seeking to borrow $30 billion from International financial institutions. At a policy dialogue forum organised by Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development in Abuja, the Emir stated that nobody in the International community will borrow Nigeria such an amount of money.

According to him, the poor state of our economy will not make any lender take Nigeria serious, adding that even if the National Assembly eventually grants the request for Nigeria to borrow such a loan, no global financial institution will offer such a loan to Nigeria.

“I can tell you for free, if the Senate today approves that we can borrow $30 billion, honestly, no one will lend us. It should be approved and I will like to see how you will go to the international market with an economy that has five exchange rates. There is one rate for petroleum marketers, there is Interbank rate, there is another for money market operators such as western union, money gram, there is bureau de change rate and there is a special rate you get when you call the CBN for a transaction. So who will borrow you when they don’t know your exact reserve and exchange rate? I want to see who will borrow you money when the Niger Delta bombing of oil is there ‎when the main source of the loan repayment is oil”he saidHowever in a swift reaction to the Emir of Kano's comment, Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Shehu Garba, in a statement released today, said the monarch does not have his facts right regarding the state of the economy. Garba's statement below

"With every respect to the Emir, you know he is my ruler, because I come from Kano. He doesn't have his facts as far as those issues are concerned. The issue in CBN, that government has overdrawn its Central Consolidated Account is true, but the overdrawing is within limits. The overdraw does not exceed 1.5 trillion. It is incorrect to say, as he did that the account was overdrawn by 4.5 trillion. But even assuming that he was correct. This is a government that has money in excess the amount he mentioned in the Treasury Single Account, TSA. It is just like you, a bank customer operating two accounts, one in the red and the other, well funded to the point that it can at any time wipe the indebtedness on the other. Would any bank manager lose their sleep over this? This, I am told is what the IMF found at the CBN and they said it is perfectly normal. As for his opposition to the USD 30 billion loan, I'm aware that the Minister of Finance is responding to that. As a private citizen, I want to read his statement again. I thought that the borrowing is for projects that include the railway development in Kano, his own city".

Photo: Woman arrested in Calabar for pouring boiling water on her 10-year-old houseboy in attempt to wake him up from sleep

One Ms Uduak was arrested and charged to Calabar Magistrates Court on Monday, November 28th for allegedly pouring boiling water on the face of 10-year-old boy, Daniel Okon Nse in an attempt to wake him up from sleep.
It was gathered that on Thursday, November 24th, at about 5:30AM, the 29-year-old suspect poured boiling water on Nse, causing severe burns and injuries on the child’s face and arm. Mr. Emmanuel Agan who is a neighbour to the accused, noticed the grave injuries on the child on Friday 25th November, 2016 and immediately reported to Basic Rights Counsel Initiative, a front line child rights organization in Calabar.

The organization immediately reported the case to the police and they arrested the perpetrator. The young boy, who is from Uruan in Akwa Ibom State said his dad is late. Until last September, Nse was a pupil of PCN Primary School, Akim, Calabar but stopped going to school after he was asked to repeat primary 3. His mother, a crayfish seller had given him out to live as house boy to one Madam Ime. According to CrossRiverWatch:

"The said Madam Ime is a food vendor (popularly known as “Mama Put”) at No. 7C, Etta Agbor Road, Calabar and on the fateful day of the incident, Daniel could not wake up on time to wash dishes when Ime’s eldest daughter (the accused) woke him up by pouring boiling water on his face.
Basic Rights Counsel Initiative had provided medical care to Nse and written to the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Social Welfare seeking temporary accommodation for the child, and the Ministry has promptly responded by placing the child in a government facility where he is now being kept pending when his biological parents/relatives can be traced

The Magistrate was said to be infuriated with the manner at which Ms. Monday responded to questions as her bail application was been heard, therefore turned down the application, remanded her in Afokang prison until the next adjourned date, Sunday 9th December, 2016.

Ooni of Ife blasts Oba of Ugbo for referring to yoruba ancestral Queen, Moremi, as a traitor not worthy of celebration

In a statement released from his palace this afternoon, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, blasted oil magnate and Oba of Ugbo Kingdom in Ondo state, Oba Federick Akinruntan, for recently referring to yoruba ancestral queen, Queen Moremi as a traitor not worthy to be celebrated.

Akinruntan at a recent function, condemned Ile-Ife people for celebrating Queen Moremi and even erecting a stature in her honor.

In his reaction, the Ooni of Ife says Akinruntan's statement smacks of royal rascality and a pitiable act of absurdity that doesn't deserve serious attention by serious minded people. Read what Akinruntan said about Queen Moremi and the Ooni of Ife's reply below...

Oba Akinruntan's statement

“Our forefathers descended from heaven, that is why we are called ‘Ugbo Atorunwo.’ We are not Ibos (Igbos), who are from the South-East, and who have their own clearly researched and defined ancestry. To set the record straight, Moremi remains a traitor. She was a slave captured by Ugbo warriors during one of their many raids on Ile-Ife. She later became the wife of Osangangan Obamakin, the son of Oranfe, of who was the paramount ruler of over 13 aboriginal communities of ancient Ugbomokun, which later came to be called Ile Ife. Oduduwa came to Ugbomokun as a stranger and was welcomed in Ilero, the aboriginal palace of Osangangan Obamakin, which is still in existence in present-day Iremo, in Ile Ife. During the dynastic struggles, Osangangan Obamakin was directed by the oracles (Ifa and Osanyin) to leave Ile Ife. Moremi betrayed her husband’s trust when she exposed the secret of the Ugbo warriors’ gallantry.” Oba Akinruntan said.Ooni of Ife's reaction

The attention of ILE-OODUA has been drawn to the above quoted statement credited to Oba Frederick Akinruntan through the Olugbo-in-Council berating the people ILE-IFE for celebrating MOREMI AJASORO as a heroine and goddess of liberty. This outburst of OLUGBO can only be viewed by the well meaning people as a mere royal rascality and a pitiable act of absurdity that doesn't deserve serious attention by serious minded people.

How on earth should a Yoruba king refer to Moremi as a traitor just because she used her power of a woman to liberate her people from incessant invasions by some faceless terrorists?

While we remain very proud of the great queen Moremi Ajasoro, a brave woman who sacrificed her only son OLUOROGBO for the victory of her people over the faceless terrorists who used to incessantly raid Ife markets, we will not dignify this rascality of royalty with an expected response as we are not ready for any useless supremacy battle incapable of taking Yoruba to a greater height.

Most paramount on the mind of His Imperial Majesty Ooni Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja II with the unflinching support of baba Alaafin, baba Awujale, baba Alake, baba Orangun, baba Deji, babe Ewi, baba Osemawe, baba Olubadan, Oba of Lagos and other relevant peace loving monarchs in Yorubaland and in other parts of the country is and remains the much needed progress of Yoruba nation which can only be catalyzed by peace and unity, this has necessitated his unimaginable barrier-breaking unity visits he has been taking around not only in Yorubaland but also across Nigeria and internationally. his activities in the last one year on throne are enough to attest to his personality as a king of peace.

It is a pity that at this time when everybody is lucidly tired of retrogressive royal discord generally agreed to have colossally hindered our pace of progress as a people of common heritage politically and socio-economically, the OLUGBO who claims to be the chairman of Yoruba Obas Committee on Peace and Reconciliation has suddenly without a deep knowledge of Yoruba history woken up to see royal controversy as the only tool for cheap publicity.

Kabiyesi Ooni is not interested in joining issues with Oba Akinruntan or anyone on any matter that can jeopardize his peace and unity project which is already making impact in so many sectors such as Youth development, women empowerment, cultural tourism, agric revolution, unification of our elders and traditional rulers, to mention but a few.
We therefore urge every lover of peace and unity in Africa to ignore any reckless statement capable of further dividing us, they should rather see the author of such statement as a person who poses a too armful danger to our peaceful coexistence.
Yoruba must remain united, Nigeria must remain united, Africa must remain united and the entire black worldwide must remain united because we are one before the Almighty God.

Comrade Moses Olafare,
Director of Media and Public Affairs,
Ooni's Palace.

Lewis Hamilton reacts to Nico Rosberg's Shock retirement from Formula One

British Sportsman, Lewis Hamilton, who lost his previously held formula one title to his childhood friend and Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg on Sunday, has reacted to the German's shock retirement from the game , just days after winning his very first title.
Speaking in Vienna, where Rosberg was handed the champion's trophy during a gala dinner on Friday night, Hamilton said:

'I was not surprised. But that's because I've known him for a long time. 'This is the first time he has won in our rivalry in 18 years, hence why I am not shocked. But it will be strange not having him there in the team next year.'

Hamilton said he doesn't care who Mercedes will announce as his partner for next season :

"It doesn't matter who they put alongside me. I'll race them. I'm here to race. The focus is on next year and hoping for a better season."He has a family he wants to focus on and F1 takes so much from you. never needed a team-mate to be able to push me," he said.

"The better the driver, the better it is for me when I finish ahead of them.
"You need someone with good values coming in and representing the team in a positive way, good work ethic and consistency, obviously, so we can those win constructors' championships. "So, in terms of challenging for constructors' titles, which is obviously the team's first goal, we need to make sure we have someone equally as consistent as what we had before."

PHOTOS: THREE NIGERIAN MEN ARRESTED IN AUSTRALIA AFTER $15MILLION DRUG BUST (MUST SEE)

Three Nigerian men have been charged after they allegedly tried to import more than $15 million worth of methamphetamine by hiding it in tins of glue.

The drug was found mixed in 180 tins of industrial glue that came in three shipments from Mexico in October, the Australian Federal Police says.

The shipments, which were equivalent to around 180 litres of methamphetamine, had an estimated street value of $15.6 million, police say.

Further investigations led to police raids on three properties across Sydney on Thursday, in Auburn, Pendle Hill and Miranda, and the arrest of the trio, aged 41, 45 and 49.

Two of the men appeared before Sydney Central Local Court on Friday on a string of drug-related offences, while the third man will appear before court

I MARRRIED MY WIFE A VIRGIN” – GOVERNOR OF CROSS RIVER STATE BEN AYADE

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State said, that he married his wife as a virgin, which is the pride of Africans, who value the virtues of chastity.

Governor Ayade, who made the disclosure in Calabar, while delivering a lecture on the HIV/AIDS scourge to mark the 2016 World Aids Day, said the greatest gift any woman could possibly hand to her husband was to present her body as a virgin to him.

He said: “I should say to the teenagers here today that when somebody leads you to the altar, at the end of that day he should be glad to say I married my wife a virgin.”

The governor stated that young people easily gave in to sex due to financial inducement, peer pressure and influence of international movies and believed that with the use of condom they were secure from HIV, which in most cases was not full-proof protection against the pandemic.

According to the governor, “when people use condom, they think they are safe which is the major cause of infection because evidence abound that the use of condom does not provide total protection against HIV/AIDS since the condom itself has small holes that are 0.05 wider than microbes, which makes HIV virus to pass successfully.”

Dr Rose Nyambi, the Director General of the State Action Committee Against AIDS, SACA, said the state had 164,267 persons (108,000 females; 61,827 males) living positively with the virus.
