LIT January; Mike Edwards Enjoys Mauritius Trip With Wife Courtesy Lipton Ice Tea

For many people, January signifies a return back to the grind after all the December holiday spending, but for BBNaija Season 4 Runner-up, Mike Edwards, it is holiday continua!

For those who recall, one of the games in the Big Brother Naija house was hosted by Lipton Ice Tea where each housemate was required to put together pieces of a puzzle to reveal the Lipton Ice Tea bottle. As winner of the LIT BBN Challenge, Mike Edwards, got a 1 Million naira cash reward and a trip for two to Mauritius. At the end of the BBNaija season, he was presented with his cheque, and a little extra of N500,000 for his wife.

Based on a recent photo from the former British high-jumper’s Instagram account, Mike and his wife Perri are already enjoying their extended holiday, which the BBN star has called a honeymoon, in the Island nation of Mauritius. The photo has attracted a lot of lovely comments from his fans and fellow BBNaija housemates. Kimoprah, who was also part of the #PepperDem housemates even hinted at the possibility of a pregnancy from their honeymoon, saying - “I’m coming in 9months to eat oh”.

Lipton Ice Tea launched in Nigeria early October, much to the admiration of fans, who were both delighted by their suspense filled campaign and the unique taste of their drink. The “sunshine in a bottle” tagline has remained as memorable as the taste of their two LIT drink flavours.

In the coming days, fans will be expecting more photos from the star couple as they continue to enjoy their holiday.

'PDP's protest in Abuja was an attempt to take over Buhari’s govt' – Imo gov Hope Uzodinma says, alleges plot to impeach him

Hope Uzodinma, the new governor of Imo state, has said that the protest held by PDP chieftains led by its party chairman Uche Secondus in Abuja on Monday January 20th, was an attempt to take over the Buhari led government.

Secondus in company of the PDP Vice Presidential candidate in the 2019 election, Peter Obi, Dino Melaye and other chieftains, took to the streets of Abuja to protest the January 14th judgement by the Supreme court nullifying Emeka Ihedioha's election and replacing him with APC's Hope Uzodinma.

Reacting to the protest, Uzodinma who met with APC supporters in his office, said the fact that the PDP members decided to hold the protest in Abuja showed they had an ulterior motive which was to topple the Buhari government. He said they should stop protesting as it was God who made him Governor.

The motive of those who are wearing black, protesting around the country is not about the Imo State governorship election. If it is the Imo State governorship election, why are PDP members protesting in Abuja, Bayelsa and everywhere in the country? Why are they not protesting only in Imo State?

PDP wants to overthrow the government of President Muhammadu Buhari. I, therefore, use this medium to call on all the security agencies to begin an investigation into the organised synchronised national crisis, which the PDP is plotting.

I want you to keep supporting the government of President Buhari. You all know that I was the frontrunner candidate during the 2019 governorship election in Imo State. I did not challenge the election on the grounds of violence. I challenged the election on the grounds that INEC refused to accept the results of 388 polling units it accepted at the collation centres.

The Tribunal did not understand our petition. The Appeal Court gave us a minority judgement, but the Supreme Court, in its wisdom, understood our petition and gave judgement in our favour.

“I am already the governor and I am in charge of Imo State Government House. Why would anybody challenge the integrity and wisdom of the Supreme Court justices? The Supreme Court justices gave us a majority judgement. The seven justices of the Supreme Court delivered their judgement in our favour.

“The same God who made me governor will sustain me. Nobody becomes governor without God’s approval. Don’t be afraid. I am in charge here and we will keep supporting and praying for our president to succeed.”

The governor also alleged that there were plans to impeach him. According to him, the PDP is plotting with members of the state house of Assembly to impeach him over an alleged $12million fraud case

“We know the gameplan of the PDP because we are aware that they have been secretly inciting Imo State House of Assembly members to think of how to impeach the governor. So, they are trying to rake up anything they can, even falsehood, to incite the public'' he said

Boko Haram cuts off Maiduguri from national electricity grid, burns UN facility (photos)

Boko Haram recently launched a vicious attack which removed Maiduguri from the national electricity grid and also led to the burning of a United Nations' facility in Ngala, Borno state.

Spokesperson of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Ndidi Mbah who confirmed the attack on Monday January 20, disclosed that they are working to restore electricity as the electricity equipment serving the state capital and its environs were damaged.

She said;

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria hereby inform the public that Maiduguri and its environs have been cut off from the National Grid since January 17, 2020, due to damages to TCN’s equipment by insurgents.

“The incident affected the 330kV transmission line between Maiduguri and Damaturu. Also, the Damboa – Maiduguri 132kV transmission line has equally been disconnected from the grid for sometime, for the same reason.

“TCN has located the fault on the Maiduguri – Damaturu line and has arranged to repair the line. Bulk electricity would be restored to Maiduguri on or before January 20, 2020.

“TCN pledges to continue to work to ensure bulk electricity transmission and grid expansion nationwide. The company wishes to use this opportunity to commend the Nigeria Armed Forces for their continued support especially in areas prone to insecurity.

“TCN regrets inconveniences caused by this problem to electricity consumers in the affected areas.”

The United Nations humanitarian coordinator in Nigeria, Edward Kallon who also confirmed the attack that led to the burning of an entire section of its facility and one of the few vehicles UN agencies rely on for movement and aid delivery, said it was a direct target of a complex assault by “heavily armed non-state armed groups operatives”.

Kallon also revealed that staff of the international humanitarian agency were saved from being attacked due to protective security measures they deployed.

He said;

“I am outraged by the extremely violent attack on this key humanitarian facility where five United Nations staff were staying at the time of the incident.

“I am shocked by the violence and intensity of this attack, which is the latest of too many incidents directly targeting humanitarian actors and the assistance we provide. I am relieved all staff is now safe and secure. Aid workers, humanitarian facilities and assets cannot be a target and must be protected and respected at all times.

“Such incidents have a disastrous effect on the lives of the most vulnerable people who depend on our assistance to survive. Many of them had already fled violence in their area of origin and were hoping to find safety and assistance in Ngala. This also jeopardises the ability for aid workers to stay and deliver assistance to the people most in need in remote areas in Borno State.

“I call on all parties to the conflict to respect the principles of humanity, neutrality, independence and impartiality which guide the assistance the humanitarian community delivers in the states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe.”
