Drug barons and yahoo boys are investing in Nigerian music industry – Veteran singer, Zaaki Azzay

Veteran singer, Zaaki Azzay, has alleged that the Nigerian music industry as of today, is driven by investments from drug barons and Internet fraudsters also known as Yahoo Boys.

Zaaki who is famous for his 1996 hit song ‘Na Me Go Marry Am’, said this in a fresh interview with Premium Times.

When asked to rate new generation singers, the Benue state-born said some Nigerian artistes are talented but lack good content. According to him, ''singers who are not really talented, come into the industry with money gotten from drugs or blood money and they just make so much noise.''

He alleged that some musicians are using music as coverup for their drug business.

Right now, it is not about getting a good song, or whether your video is good or your song is nice. It is not about that anymore it’s about how much money you can spend to promote a song. Most of the people who have this type of money are into ‘Yahoo’ or blood money. That is the major challenge of the music industry right now. There are a lot of artistes who are making it genuinely, but that is still the major problem.

''I think they are very talented and they are good. However, some of them lack good content in their music and have nothing meaningful in their lyrics. Musicians are actually meant to be good ambassadors.

There is a lot that has gone into music. There are lots of people who are not really musicians. People who are not really talented come into music and bring money from drugs or ‘blood money’ put it into music and make noise everywhere.

Not many know these musicians are actually using music to cover up for their drug businesses. That is the major issue for us because those who are consuming the music might not know that and it kind of makes it difficult for talented musicians who are supposed to be heard and (are) not heard because they cannot afford to promote their music.''

NYSC debunks online reports it has postponed the 2020 Batch A orientation programme due to the Coronavirus scare

The management of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has debunked online reports that it has postponed the 2020 Batch A orientation programme scheduled to begin on March 10th, due to the Coronavirus scare.

The management of the scheme says necessary measures have been put in place to prevent the spread of the virus during the orientation programme.

Read the statement below;

POSTPONEMENT OF 2020 BATCH "A" ORIENTATION PROGRAMME : REBUTTAL

The attention of the Management of the National Youth Service Corps has been drawn to a false and very misleading story circulating on the social media making allusion to the postponement of the 2020 Batch "A" Orientation programme, scheduled to commence nationwide on 10th March, 2020 arising from the Coronavirus scare.

Management of the Scheme wishes to assure Nigerians, especially the Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) that like it happened during the outbreak of Ebola virus, a hemorrhagic fever with devastating consequences, the Corps has been in liaison with the Federal Ministry of Health. As a proactive action, it has put in place certain preventive measures in the thirty - seven Orientation Camps of the Scheme, in order to guard against the contraction of the highly contagious virus by the Corps Members.

In addition to the above strategy, the NYSC Secretariats had since stepped up the sensitization of serving Corps Members, as well as other Nigerians on things to know about the virus, particularly the preventive measures to be adopted.

Accordingly, Management wishes to emphatically state that the Orientation Course for the 2020 Batch "A" Corps Members shall hold nationwide as earlier publicised.

Kindly disregard the hoax created by mischief makers to cause unnecessary anxiety among the PCMs.

Thank you.

Management

Buhari orders probe of security operatives for releasing 295 smuggled fuel tankers illegally

President Buhari has ordered the probe of some security operatives who released 295 smuggled fuel tankers at the land borders in December 2019, without due authorization.

President Buhari's spokesperson, Femi Adesina who confirmed the launch of the probe in a statement he released on Saturday February 29, accused the security operatives of sabotaging the effort of the federal government.

It is expected that security officials found guilty of conniving to undermine government’s effort, will be withdrawn from the border drill and severely sanctioned.

The statement reads in part;

“The border drill has been hugely successful and has led to the interception and seizure of large quantities of foods, materials, minerals and petroleum resources illegally trafficked across our borders. The President commends the security agencies for a job well done,” the statement read.

“He, however, finds it disheartening to learn that 295 smuggled petroleum tankers were released without due authorization on 17th December, 2019 by some security officials charged with the responsibility of protecting our borders.

“Sequel to this act, the National Security Adviser (NSA) was directed to set up a Board of Inquiry to investigate the crime, and it was recommended to the President that all officials (civilian or security operatives) found to have connived to undermine government’s efforts should be withdrawn from the border drill and severely sanctioned by their respective organizations.

“The President has accepted the recommendations and directed the immediate withdrawal and replacement of all those found culpable. He has also directed that their respective organizations should mete immediate appropriate disciplinary actions to them.”

Recall that after the closure of Nigeria's land borders in August 2019, the federal government directed that petroleum products should not be supplied to fuel stations within 20 kilometers of the borders.

Ngozi Ezeonu married off my daughter without my consent after crashing our marriage – Ex-Husband Edwin Ezeonu

Edwin Ezeonu, the ex-husband of Nollywood actress Ngozi Ezeonu has accused her of marrying off their daughter without his consent.

In an interview with The Sun's 'Inside Nollywood', Edwin accused his ex-wife of trampling on his right and honour as a man.

He described his daughter’s traditional wedding in Delta State as an abomination as he was kept in the dark throughout the whole process.

The aggrieved ex-husband of the Nollywood actress said;

“I’m a real son of the soil in Igboland and I am knowledgeable enough about Igbo traditional marriage. In Anambra State where I come from, a woman does not and has no right whatsoever to give out a fellow woman’s hand in marriage. It is abomination and taboo. As such, Ngozi Denis Ikpelue has no legitimate right and authority to give out my daughter, Ogechukwu’s hand in marriage. As long as I am concerned and also the entire family of Ezeonu and his kindred are concerned, Ogechukwu is not married. What happened in Asaba, Delta State on February 15, 2020 was a movie shoot!”

Recalling how his marriage to Ngozi Ezeonu crashed in 2013, Edwin said;

“I came back home one day from work and met an empty house, without any prior notice. As I got home that fateful day, my landlady told me that Ngozi had packed out of the house, taking the children along with her. Few weeks before that, I had insinuated that she was putting up a new apartment. I summoned her and warned her against dividing the family. But she never listened.

“I gave Ngozi all the supports and encouragements she needed to boost her career as a seasoned actress, yet she never valued all my efforts. She also never contributed a dime to the upkeep of the house and wellbeing of the children. Even after they left, I still catered for my kids: school fees, foodstuff and all. I’m devastated that my only daughter would do this to me. Ngozi should also desist from using my surname. We are divorced.”

US records first coronavirus death

The United States has announced its first Coronavirus death which occurred in the state of Washington.

Dr. Jeffrey Duchin, health officer for Seattle and King County in Washington said the patient was a man in his 50s with underlying health conditions. Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said there is no evidence the deceased contracted the virus through travel, leading to speculaion of a domestic "community spread" of the disease, a new phase for the United States that began this week on the West Coast.

Health officials in Washington further disclosed that 27 patients and 25 staff members in a long-term care center in Washington have symptoms associated with COVID-19. The Life Care Center of Kirkland said in a statement that new patients and visitors were being turned away, and patients and staff "with symptoms or who were potentially exposed are quarantined."

President Donald Trump and US officials previously said in a press briefing that the late coronavirus patient was a woman. A senior administration official later blamed the mix up on Redfield, who tweeted later on Saturday that the "CDC erroneously identified the patient as a female" during a briefing with Trump and Pence.

Shortly after the announcement of the Washington death, President Donald Trump held a White House news conference to announce that the United States is issuing more travel restrictions and warnings to help prevent spread of the virus. He also said he is meeting with pharmaceutical executives to discuss an approach towards a coronavirus vaccine.

Trump added;

"We respectfully ask the media and politicians and everybody else involved not do anything to incite the panic, because there's no reason to panic at all."

On Sunday, Australia and Thailand also recorded their first fatalities from coronavirus. A 78-year-old Australian man died after being infected on the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan last month.

Thailand, which has had 42 cases of the virus, said a 35-year-old man who died was also suffering from dengue fever.

More than 85,000 coronavirus cases have been reported in 57 countries around the world and almost 3,000 deaths, according to the World Health Organization.

Nigerian professor claims he has 'discovered' the cure for coronavirus and lassa fever

A Nigerian Professor, Maduike Ezeibe has announced that he has discovered a possible cure for the dreaded coronavirus and lassa fever.

The Professor of Virology at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) who once claimed to have discovered the therapy for the cure of HIV/AIDS, expressed confidence that the therapy which according to him, had already proved reliable in the "treatment of HIV/AIDS," would make coronavirus a thing of the past.

Ezeibe who gave the chemical equation of the therapy as (AI4(SiO4)3+3Mg2SiO4-2AI2Mg3(SiO4)3) and also disclosed that “it’s a mechanism for curing Covid -19 and Lassa fever”, urged countries affected by the deadly virus to adopt his therapy for clinical trials on patients.

He said;

“Electrostatic attraction would make electrically charged medicines mop pathogens which have opposite charges, is a known scientific fact and that viruses and abnormal (infected /tumor) cells are electrically charged is now known.

”Covid-19 virus and Lassa fever virus (DNA viruses) are negatively charged . Small sizes of viruses enable them infect cells, inaccessible to big molecules. So, existing antiviral medicines need immunity to complement their effects but some viruses cause immune deficiency.

"As a silicate, AMS also normalises immunity and as a stabilizing agent it enhances efficacy of antimicrobials to achieve effective treatment secondary infections.

“Effective treatment of secondary infections would cure any viral /abnormal cell diseases including Covid -19 and Lassa fever “
