Paying exorbitant school fees is now a bragging right among parents in Nigeria - Uche Nnaji writes

Fashion entrepreneur, Uche Nnaji, just shared an interesting piece on how parents are struggling to pay exorbitant school fees for their kids and yet struggling through life.

According to him, 'where is all these pressure leading us to ? At this rate, do you even plan to stay alive and see these children finish this schools?.

See his full piece below...

In the last 2months 4 young Families and Friends I know have relocated with their kids from Nigeria to Canada| UK | and the US.
One common reason they all gave was the constant rise in school fees . One even told me that “ Uche , my children now attend a CATHOLIC school that is going to be 70yrs old this December and guess what THE SCHOOL IS FREE, I don’t have to pay anything since we migrated legally and to think the school is far better than the school my children were attending in Lekki where I was working to just pay school fees.
.
So the other day , a client told me that he cannot afford to pay #150k for a Tuxudo. Curious I asked WHY , he said that he was paying a little over #7m as school fees for 3 of his kids schooling in Nigeria. And just today another client also tells me he is looking for suits of not more than #80k because he just paid over #3m for his 2 kids both in primary schools.
Honestly this trend is getting me worried for MEN as I wonder , who is putting MEN under this much pressure to now see HIGH school fees as a bragging right?

Where is all these pressure leading us to ? At this rate , Do you even plan to stay alive and see these children finish this schools?.
.
Nigerians, Instead of us to take a stand , Speak Up and REVIVE the missionary schools that most of you attended and turned out successful people today, We are busy bragging about paying #2M FOR ACCEPTANCE FEE FORM for certain PRIMARY SCHOOL on the island .
.
Men&Women who ought to speak up have all looked the other way while Schools like KC, QC and Igbobi colleges which they attended is no longer befitting for their children to attend.
.
Can we just PAUSE for a minute and retrace our footsteps ???.

Photos: Man arrested for suffocating his crying 6-month-old stepson

A couple were arrested on Monday night after they allegedly dumped the body of their suffocated six-month-old baby boy on a Bangkok soi in front of the home of the wife’s mother.

The husband, Witthawat Jitthanopajai, 21, also faced murder charges for allegedly suffocating the son by a previous marriage of his wife, Kanchana Thetsawang, 22.

The baby’s body was found in a basket left in front of the house of Kanchana’s mother on Soi Pracha Uthit 19 in Huay Kwang district at 10am on Sunday.

After learning the baby was Kanchana’s son, the police tracked down and arrested the couple at 10pm on Monday at their rented room at an apartment building in Pathum Thani’s Thanyaburi district.

Kanchana told police her son was born during a previous marriage, but she had remarried after her first husband died about six months ago.

Kanchana said she had left the baby with Witthawat, an Army private, when she left home to work and came back to find that her son had died.

Witthawat told police that when the baby cried, he had wrapped him in a blanket, put him under a pillow and laid down on top of the baby. He said he fell asleep and woke up to find the baby had died.

The couple said they did not know what to do, and so took a taxi to leave the baby in front of the house of Kanachana’s mother.

''Nigerians will enjoy 24 hours power supply if Buhari is re-elected'' - Rotimi Amaechi

The Minister of Transportation and Director general of the Buhari campaign organization, Rotimi Amaechi has said Nigerians will enjoy 24 hours power supply if President Buhari is re-elected in 2019.

Amaechi disclosed this during an interactive session with the media in Abuja on Tuesday September 11th.

Speaking on why Buhari and the APC government deserves second term, Amaechi said

There is also an improvement in power. We have from 3000megawatt to 7000 but we are distributing 5000 because some of the Infrastructures are not in good state but we are slowly fixing them.

“The expectation is that it should be 24 hours power supply but there will still be a gap but if you give us a second term, that gap will be closed.” he said

Speaking further, the former Rivers state governor said

“Nigerians have taught me a lesson I learnt in politics and that is why nothing bothers me again. The people praising you today, if you see them when you are out of power, you will be shocked. Those singing hallelujah and hosanna will still be the same people to shout crucify him tomorrow.

“We have done much more than transport. In terms of Corruption; this economy was a rent economy. Public money was spent anyhow and it was an economy that was not worked hard for. That is why you see politicians today very rich and one year after government, they are poor. They are like that because they don’t know how to manage the money.

“When Buhari came, he said no and that we cannot continue to spend anyhow. Buhari has not said people should not steal, he has rather kept quiet to see who can steal because there is a consequence for stealing.

“I don’t want to say it has stopped completely but it has reduced. Before, there were so many empty houses in Abuja. People were building and speculating that new politicians will come in and buy but we came in and could not buy because of the economy. So if you say Buhari has not done anything on corruption, you are being most unfair.

“Also, the 2016 budget was 6percent capita but we are doing 20 percent capita now. We are doing 80 percent recurrent and 20 percent capital. We believe that in the next two to three years, we will get to 30 percent capital and we will get there if we reduce the current expenditure and deal with wastage.”

“It is also unfair if Nigerians think the ministry of works is not working. The road to Bonny was abandoned after Obasanjo left government.

“The road was below N39bn but it is now N120bn. When I was Governor, I wrote to federal government under Jonathan that I wanted to do the road for N39bn but they didn’t reply me.

“My final year as governor, energy wrote that they will take care of 50 percent of the bill and I wrote again to the Federal Government but they didn’t reply because I was in APC. Now that the Federal government wants to do it, the cost is now N120bn.

“So, Buhari government is dealing with corruption, building roads. The worst roads in Nigeria used to be between Uyo and Calabar but it has been awarded.

“The road to Enugu too that people are complaining about, contractors are working on the roads already. The work may be slow but they are working. When we came oil was $28 per barrel and our budget was $35 and suddenly it dropped but the Minister of Budget managed it for us to survive. Now oil is $74 but we still have not reached $110. If we get to that, things will change rapidly. Also the Ilorin-Jebba road. So many roads have been awarded.
