AFCON: President Buhari hails Super Eagles over victory against South Africa's Bafana Bafana

President Buhari has congratulated the Super Eagles for another spectacular outing that has confirmed Nigeria’s progress to the Next Level in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Egypt 2019. The Super Eagles beat South Africa's Bafana Bafana 2-1 in a match that held last night.

President Buhari in a statement signed by his Special Advisier on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said with a well-deserved victory over the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, he believes, like millions of other sports-loving Nigerians, that the mission of having the trophy in our hands for the fourth time is almost accomplished for the high flying Eagles.

President Buhari urged the team and their handlers to remain focused, disciplined and scale the remaining two hurdles to glory. He affirmed that the crop of players in the national football team represent the resilient and indomitable Nigerian spirit, which must be reflected in all other areas of national life.

President Buhari assured the players that Nigerians are praying for them to fly higher and get to the peak of the tournament, knowing that the taste of victory is sweet and what they have achieved so far is pleasing to Nigerians irrespective of ethnic, religious or political inclination.

Corps member allegedly rejected by school owner for refusing to sleep with him

A distraught corps member deployed to a school in Port Harcourt for her service year, narrated how she was rejected because she refused to sleep with a man she met at the school who is supposedly the proprietor.

The alleged school's proprietor had promised her an accomodation and leisure in her service year, but refused to sign her acceptance letter after she rejected sleeping with him.

Instagram user @di.zire who shared the story, also revealed that the man threatened to tell NYSC authorities that the corps member rejected the Primary Place of Assignment (PPA) herself. She wrote;

I was minding my business today as usual, then i hear my friend going on and off with this babe on the phone. He was trying to calm her down. After over thirty minutes on the phone, he explains that she went to her PPA which is a school in portharcort today and the man she met there said for him to accept her letter she would have to sleep with him and they would be doing so as she serves in the school, promising her accommodation and that she wouldn't have to come to work everyday.

I called her back, asked if she was okay, still in tears she said no, and explained the same thing my friend had explained. He threatened her saying that he would say she rejected the PPA herself.... My dear thought that would be an issue and was pleading but still refusing the offer and he refused to accept the letter, sticking to his condition. I told her to just go straight the secretariat and make a complaint and that she should be happy about the rejection letter. It doesnt matter who makes the rejection.

At least she's out of that ridiculous school. She wants to be taken out of that local government because she says its a small town, the schools are close and they have links with eachother. But then yet again, who knows what perverted soul she would meet at the secretariat and disregard her complaints? What about the female students in that school, are their parents aware of this perverted fool they placed their children under. Who knows how many students are being sexually harassed. . .

Police arrest Finnish gang trafficking Nigerian women

Six suspected members of a Finnish-led gang who trafficked women including Nigerians for sex, have been arrested by the European police.

The police seized almost $3.4m (N1.22bn) in assets in four countries as well as luxury cars, jewellery, €30,000 in cash and also froze the suspects’ bank accounts in 12 different countries. 16 websites advertising sexual services were also shut down, and this led to the arrest of the alleged ringleader based in Marbella, Spain including two others. Other suspects were arrested in Malta, Romania and Finland.

“The suspected leader of the criminal group has carried out criminal activities in at least 15 countries. He used intermediaries to channel criminal proceeds to international multi-currency bank accounts” and also used small amounts of crypto currencies" said the Hague-based Europol.

The Nigerian women who were trafficked by the Finnish gang, worked as prostitutes in Finland and Sweden.

4-year-old girl goes missing during RCCG thanksgiving service

A 4-year-old girl identified as Aisha Taiwo who alongside her 9-year-old brother, Malik, accompanied their 60-year-old blind grandma to the monthly thanksgiving service at the national headquarters of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Ebute Meta, Lagos, reportedly went missing.

She reportedly disappeared after children were called out for special prayers at the church. The missing girl's uncle, Abdulwasiu Esuola told Punch;

“Aisha’s mother is my sister and she usually comes with her children to visit their grandma every weekend. Due to grandma’s visual impairment, it is only Aisha’s brother who usually follows her to the church. On Sunday, Aisha decided to follow them to the church because her mother, who worships at a different church, was attending the burial rites of a family member.

“Children usually worship at a different hall, but being a thanksgiving Sunday, the RCCG had a joint service in the main auditorium. When the children were invited to the altar for a special prayer, Aisha and her brother held each others’ hands but they got separated while returning to their seats and when her brother returned to where they were seating and couldn’t find her, he raised the alarm.

“I was informed of the incident about 40 minutes after she was declared missing in the church and I immediately went to the church to request the CCTV footage of the premises. To my surprise, I was told that no CCTV camera was installed on the premises. All they had was only their media coverage which showed only the altar; there is nothing exclusive that the church has as a security measure.

“On Monday, I had gone to the police station to lodge a complaint and I went to the Lagos office of IRT and I was able to get a police report. We’ve been doing all we can as a family to find my niece and we expect that the church will also be swift in its response by setting up a committee on this unusual situation.

“I went to the church on Tuesday and a service was going on. I approached one of the pastors and I told him my grievances. While I was making my point, he said he wanted to mount the pulpit and I suggested that I should come back to see him at 2pm.

“Rather than tell me the time that would be convenient for him to see me, he said angrily that how could I just assume that he would be free anytime I chose to see him. The least he could do was to show some level of empathy.”

Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi, Head of Media and Public Relations, revealed that the church was doing all in its power to find the girl. When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, also said they have intensified its effort for Aisha to regain her freedom.

“The girl is actually missing. She went to the church with her grandma and we are still searching for her,” he stated.
