Actress Funke Akindele-Bello who was arrested on Sunday April 5th by the Lagos state police command for flouting the social distancing order of the Lagos state government, spent the night at the State Criminal Investigation Department SCID office in Panti, Lagos.

A police source who confirmed this to LIB, said the actress's husband, Abdulrasheed Bello aka JJC Skillz, who was not availabe when she was picked up has turned himself in and is currently with her in Panti. The police source added that they would be arraigned in court this morning.

Singer Naira Marley and other guests at the party who the police have asked to report at the SCID for questioning are still being awaited.

The Lagos Infection Diseases Regulations 2020, prescribes a jail term of one month or N100,000 fine or both for any one found guilty of hosting gatherings or flouting the lockdown order.

The regulation act in part reads

“Where there is a violation of a closedown or stay-at-home order, security agencies shall have the power to arrest without warrant and may detain any person, who violates the closedown or stay-at-home order, for at least 48 hours.

“Where the arrested person is found guilty, the person is liable to a fine of N100,000 or one month imprisonment or three months’ community service.”

Do you guys think this is appropriate or excessive? We are beginning to feel some type of way about it. Sigh

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has raised concerns over the number of COVID-19 cases being reported in Nigeria.

In a tweet posted on Monday morning, the politician says he has a terrible feeling that if more people were tested, Nigerians would be shocked and devastated by the results.

''How can you determine the number of Nigerians that have been afflicted with Covid 19 when not up to 1% of the population have been tested for the virus? I have a terrible feeling that if up to 80% of Nigerians were tested for it we would be shocked and devastated by the results.''his tweet reads

He who has obeyed this shutdown 100% should cast the first stone - Uti Nwachukwu slams hypocrites as he pleads with Governor Sanwo-Olu to release Funke Akindele

Uti Nwachukwu has slammed ''hypocrites '' while reacting to the arrest of Funke Akindele-Bello who was picked up by authorities on Sunday for holding a party during the Coronavirus lockdown in Lagos.

The media personality said those who have obeyed lockdown 100% should cast the first stone, while noting that 'the same ones admiring you are the same people that clamour for your persecution at the slightest misstep.'

Uti also pleaded with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to fine and release the actress after she and her husband Abdulrasheed Bello aka JJC Skillz, pleaded guilty to the one count charge of defiling the orders of the Lagos state government on public gatherings and social distancing.

He wrote: '#freefunkeakindele .NIGERIA: the same ones screaming I love u! The same ones Begging you for help , the same ones admiring you ARE THE SAME PEOPLE That clamour for your persecution at the slightest misstep.'

one of the first lessons I learnt early : don’t fall for most of the praises of the ones that claim they are FANS! Unless tried and tested . They ache to see you fall from grace !! But not this time!! STAND STONG FUNKE! .

He who has obeyed this SHUTDOWN 100% should cast the First stone ...She has apologised ... She has even tweeted that she is broken , if that that doesn’t scream remorse I don’t know why else would
.
H.E @jidesanwoolu Please Please Please impose a Fine and Free #freejenifa

"I love Funke but she must face this punishment" N6 reacts to Funke Akindele's arrest

Media personality, Nnamdi Nwabasili, aka N6, has disagreed with those asking that Funke Akindele be shown mercy following her arrest.

The actress and her husband, JJC Skillz, appeared in court today where they pleaded guilty after Funke defied the Coronavirus lockdown to throw a party for her husband.

Afterwards, Nigerians took to Instagram and Twitter to plead for the authorities to show mercy to the much-loved actress.

Daddy Freeze took to Instagram to acknowledge that Funke did wrong but he stated that she has apologized and asked the authorities to "temper justice with mercy."

However, N6 did not agree and he pointed out that Funke "must face" this "punishment" as she "contravened the law". He added that "as an ambassador" she should "have known better".

He said he loves Funke, JJC and everyone involved but their actions put people at risk. He said it also didn't help that JJC went to Instagram Live a day after "to jeer at people".

Read what he wrote below.

Breaking: Court sentences Funke Akindele and husband to 14 days Community service; to pay 100k fine each

The Chief Magistrate Court 1 Ogba has sentenced actress Funke Akindele and her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello aka JJC Skillz, for defying the social distancing order of the Lagos state government.

The court in its ruling ordered the couple to pay a fine of N100,000 each and also sentenced them to 14 days community service, three hours per day, excluding Saturday and Sunday.

The couple must also visit 10 important public places within Lagos State to educate the public on the consequences of non compliance with the restriction order and must submit the names and phone numbers of every person who attended their house party.

Furthermore, the court ordered that they shall be placed on isolation by the State Government to determine their COVID-19 status. Failure to abide by the above directives shall attract more severe punishments.

The charge sheet filed against them reads

''On 04/04/2020, the two accused persons held a party at their residents with over twenty persons in attendance contrary to the social distancing directives made in pursuant to Regulation 8(1)(a) and (b) & 17(1)(i) of the Lagos State Infectious Disease (Emergency Prevention) Regulations 2020 and therefore committed an offence under Section 58 of the Public Health Law Cap P16 Vol. 9, Laws of Lagos State 2015.''

Coronavirus: The world will wish it intervened if Nigeria falls - CNN Host, Fareed Zakaria (video)

CNN host, Fareed Zakaria has stated that the world will wish it intervened if Nigeria and Iraq falls to the Coronavirus pandemic ravaging some countries around the world.

According to the TV host, we are still in the early stages of what is going to become a series of cascading crises. Fareed added that the people may not be able to get back to anything resembling normal life, unless the major powers in the world are able to find a way to cooperate and manage these problems together.

The CNN host who admitted that some developing countries like Nigeria have recorded relatively lesser cases so far, added that there is a tendency they could fall to the disease.

Fareed stated that if this happens, the cost in refugees, disease and terrorism will lead to regrets.

He said;

We're in the early stages of what is going to become a series of cascading crises, and we will not be able to get back to anything resembling normal life unless the major powers in the world can find some way to cooperate.

“Even as we are just beginning to confront the magnitude of the shock caused by this pandemic, we need to wrap our minds around the painful truth. We are in the early stages of what is going to be a series of cascading crises reinvigorating throughout the world and we would not be able to get back to anything resembling normal life unless the major powers in the world are able to find a way to cooperate and manage these problems together.

“The first phase has been the health care crisis in the world’s major economies. The next phase is the economic paralysis, the magnitude we are only just beginning to comprehend. Next comes the explosions in the developing world. So far, the number of infected have been low in countries like India, Indonesia, Brazil, Nigeria, probably because they are less linked in trade and travel than the advanced world. In addition, these countries have tested very few people which is key to keeping their numbers deficiently low. But unless we get lucky and it turns out that heat does temper the virus, these countries will all get hit and hard.

“And then, there are the oil states. Even if the quarrel between Saudi Arabia and Russia gets resolved, at this point, the demand for oil has collapsed and will not soon recover. Consider what that means for countries like Libya, Nigeria, Iran, Iraq and Venezuela, where oil revenue makes up the vast majority of government revenue.

“The vast majority be …the economy…. expect political turmoil, refugees, revolutions, crackdowns, maybe terrorism. All of these might happen on a scale we haven’t seen for decades.

“If countries like Iraq and Nigeria explode, the cost in refugees, disease and terrorism would all make us wish we had tried harder to manage their fall."
