Protecting Nigerians from COVID-19 is the priority of my government now- President Buhari

President Buhari has reiterated the commitment of his administration to the welfare of Nigerians especially with the current happenings around the world.

Speaking while receiving the management of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) in State House, President Buhari said:

“I am pleased that you are working with the Ministry of Health on protecting our citizens from Covid-19 virus. You must work to guarantee the safety and security of our pilgrims. As a government, this is now a key priority for us. I therefore enjoin you to ensure that adequate medical provisions and other welfare requirements are afforded our pilgrims,” he said.

The President expressed his delight with the operations of the Commission so far especially, the reduction to up to 15 per cent in Hajj fares.

“I am pleased to hear of the progress you have made thus far especially in reducing Hajj fares by up to 15 per cent. I am also impressed that you are still working to further bring down the cost next year. This is commendable now especially with the recent global events that have impacted on the economy. Such savings will be timely and most welcome to the pilgrims as well as to Nigeria’s economy,” he said.

“However, as you assess and reduce these costs, you must ensure that quality service and comfort are provided for our pilgrims as these are the core mandates of your Commission and must remain your primary goal,” he said.

Coronavirus: Ekiti government orders closure of schools, bans public gathering of more than 20 people

The Ekiti state government has ordered the closure of schools in the state and placed a ban on gathering of more than 20 persons in places of worship, social clubs, political gathering, joints and night clubs in the state with immediate effect.

In a state-wide broadcast on Friday March 20, Governor Kayode Fayemi encouraged non-essentials workers in both private and public sectors to work from home starting from Monday with exception of senior civil and public servants on grade levels 13 and above, health workers, caregivers, social welfare officers, fire service officers, emergency response officers, security guards in public institutions and those on other essential duties.

He also directed that commercial drivers must ensure only one person sits in the front seat with the driver and not more than three passengers on a row in the backseat, while Okadas must carry only one person each to minimize close contacts as much as possible.

Governor Fayemi who disclosed that he created a 40-man Taskforce headed by him to effectively combat the spread of the virus in the state, instructed that all public places must provide hand washing implements at the entrance and exit of their facility. He also advised market men and women to practise hand washing under running water with liquid soap at least six times a day in their stalls.

The Ekiti State Governor told residents of the state that health workers can be alerted of suspected cases of coronavirus by the 112 Emergency Number or 09062970434, 09062970435, 09062970436. He added that the State Contact team has been able to established 42 direct and indirect contacts of the imported Ekiti index case. None of the contacts have shown symptoms of the disease so far.

He said;

“From Monday 23rd March, 2020, the Ekiti Taskforce will give regular updates at 2:00 pm every 48 hours at the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), Ministry of Health and Human Services, State Secretariat to keep the public informed of new developments and the actions we are taking to make Ekiti State safe and COVID-19 free.

“COVID-19 is most deadly because of its ability to pass silently from one infected person to others through virus-laden droplets of bodily fluids for up to 21 days, before showing any symptom. It has been proven that one infected person can transfer the virus to up to four hundred and six (406) people within 30 days and to one hundred and sixty four thousand (164,836) people in 60 days! That is why it must be contained, and urgently too!"

US Vice President, Mike Pence's staffer tests positive for coronavirus

A staff member in US Vice President Mike Pence’s office has tested positive for coronavirus, a spokesperson for Pence announced on Friday evening.

Though Pence’s office did not identify the individual or provide other information about the person or the job they hold, the announcement however marks the first known positive test for the virus among the White House staff, and it comes amid new concerns about the safety of Washington politicians, government officials and those who work for them.

Katie Miller, Pence’s press secretary said in a statement;

"?This evening we were notified that a member of the Office of the Vice President tested positive for the Coronavirus. Neither President Trump nor Vice President Pence had close contact with the individual. Further contact tracing is being conducted in accordance with CDC guidelines."

Pence was appointed by Trump to lead the White House’s coronavirus task force, which has been holding daily press briefings on the virus. In recent days, Trump has joined Pence and others on the task force for briefings.

President Donald Trump tested negative for the virus after coming into contact at his Florida resort with Brazilian officials who later tested positive for the disease. Several members of the White House staff who interacted with the Brazilian delegation or others who tested positive for the virus have worked from home as a precaution, but none of them are known to have contracted the virus.

Coronavirus: No plans to shut down schools, places of worship in Edo- Governor Godwin Obaseki

The Edo state government has said that there is no plan to shut down schools and places of worship in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Stare Governor Obaseki made this known when he received religious leaders from the state in his office on Friday March 20th.

He said there is no need for anyone in the state to panic as his government has taken appropriate measures to prevent the importation of the virus into the state. He however added that his government has put up measures to deal with the spread of the virus if it eventually finds its way to the state.

''There is no plan to shut down places of worship except it becomes absolutely necessary. However, we would want to appeal that for the sake of your congregation, we should look at how to keep people from being too close from one another. It is possible to place visual services'' he said

Many state governments have banned social gatherings as part of efforts to curb the spread of the virus in their states.

Coronavirus: No plans to shut down schools in Akwa Ibom- Governor Emmanuel Udom says

Governor Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom states has said that there are no plans to shut down schools in the state due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

In a state wide broadcast delivered on Saturday morning, Governor Udom said that there is no confirmed case of COVID-19 disease in Akwa Ibom State and that as a matter of fact, the measures put in place at the state airport to curb the spread of the virus into the state, is comprehensive and has no parallel anywhere in West Africa.

He appealed to residents of the state to adhere strictly to preventive measures so they do not contact the virus.

'' I want to advise that we should all continue to observe the simple rules of Personal and Respiratory Hygiene:

Regular hand washing with soap under running water.

b. Use of hand sanitizer where there is no water.

c. Coughing/sneezing into a disposable tissue paper or the cuff of the elbow where no tissue is available and proper disposal of the used tissue.

d. Put on a mask if you cannot properly move away from any person with those symptoms and or give the person a mask to wear.

It is also important to observe SOCIAL DISTANCING, avoid hand shaking, and keep at least six feet away from anyone who is sneezing or coughing.

I would like to remind you of some symptoms of the infection which include: Fever, cough, sore throat, difficulty in breathing, generally feeling unwell (malaise), common cold (catarrh or runny nose, sneezing, cough).

Anyone with these symptoms should self-isolate and invite our Emergency Response Team for assessment and follow-up. WE encourage you to report members of your family or friends with these symptoms to the Ministry of Health. Your report will be held and treated with absolute confidentiality. The Ministry of Health has already provided the emergency telephone numbers for you to contact the State’s emergency team at any time of the day.

Given the measures aforestated, it is our belief that there is no need to shut down our public schools, which are supposed to close in a week’s time.

I urge you to go about your normal duties.'' he said

While a lot of people may not agreed with this I totally understand your position sir and I agreed with you. It is always better to analyse your situation first and think of what will work best for you and your people instead to just following the crowd. In Lagos where schools have been closed and religious services of more than 50 peoples prohibited I want to ask if these two places are the only places people meet and can contract the virus. The markets e.g Balogun market, Oshodi market, malls e.t.c are still open, public transportation Danfo, brt, molue are stilling operating and I believe it is easier for people to contract the virus from these places more than from schools and churches/mosque. To some extent the interaction of people in schools and places of worship can be controlled more than in these other public spaces. In schools and worship places you can have someone take peoples temperature before they go in, you can have hand sanitiser at the entrance and urge everyone to use it. You can even enforce social distancing in these two places which is absolutely not possible in the markets, public transportation but these places are still open while schools and religious places have been closed. If for any reason the government feels that to curb the spread of this virus that locking down Lagos is the best thing to do NOW then my point is closing schools and worship places and leaving markets, public transportation, e.t.c open will not achieve any thing.Like this! 4Dislike this! 2Reply

'I didn't give any information to any journalist' - Kika 'Good Hair' responds to court order for her arrest over her alleged involvement in Yutee Rone blackmail story

Society girl and hair entrepreneur, Kika Osunde aka Kika Good Hair, has denied giving information to a journalist or even being invited by the police over her alleged involvement in the Yutee Rone blackmail story.

Recall that LIB published an exclusive story on Friday March 19th about the arrest warrant issued by an Abuja court for Kika over her alleged involvement in the scandalous publication written by journalists Abiola Aloba and Sunday Adebayo about Yutee Rone, the fashion designer behind Yutee Rone Atelier, who is married to billionaire businessman Julius Rone.

During interrogation by the police, Aloba fingered Kika as his alleged source, and after a thorough investigation by the police and some evidence found, Kika was invited to come for questioning. She was unreachable for over a month.

As a result, on Tuesday, March 17th, an Abuja high court issued a warrant for Kika’s arrest. Kika is currently in London. However, the Nigerian police have been ordered to arrest her on sight if she returns to the country.

Taking to her social media pages last night, Kika denied any involvement in the scandal and said her lawyers are now involved.
