''Fayemi can start his probe now, his vendetta mission will consume him'' Ekiti government

The Ekiti State Government has challenged the governor-elect, Dr. Kayode Fayemi to begin his probe of the Ayodele Fayose led government now instead of waiting till October 16 that he will be sworn in, saying; “it is obvious that he will be consumed in his vendetta mission and rather than grandstanding, Fayemi should first seek legitimacy for his stolen mandate. ”

Governor Fayose’s Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said in his reaction to Fayemi’s threat that “he (Fayemi) should stop living in the world where threat of probe scares people because we in the government of Fayose are not afraid of victimization and vendetta that Fayemi is obviously coming with.”

He described Fayemi as a beneficiary of a stolen mandate who is afraid to even come to the open to celebrate his false victory, adding that; “Even yesterday when he went to collect the certificate of the mandate that was snatched and handed to him by the powers that be in Abuja, he had to be protected by police helicopter and hundreds of armed policemen. One wonders how he is going to rule the people they forced him on.”

Olayinka said; “If Fayemi is on vendetta mission, which is obvious that he is, he will first destroy himself because like Ekiti and its people survived him during his first tenure, the people will outlive him this time too.

“During his first tenure, he probed the government of Engr Segun Oni and said he (Oni) should refund N5.4 billion to the state government account. He went further to say that the state government should explore all legal means by inviting anti-graft bodies like Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences (ICPC) including courts to compel Oni and others so indicted to refund the money to the government purse.

“However, he is now wining and dining with the same Segun Oni.”

Declaring that all books of the government are open for the public to see, Governor Fayose’s spokesperson said “it is funny that the same Fayemi, who refused to appear before a duly constituted commission of inquiry is the one talking talking about probe.

He said; “What is he waiting for? Can’t he start the probe today?

“As for us, we have counted the cost for shenanigans of Fayemi and his Abuja impostors and we are not afraid to confront them when the time comes.

“To us, there are just two things that can come from dictators - death and incarceration, we are not afraid of any.”

Benue governor Samuel Ortom makes U-turn, says he’s still in APC

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state says he is still a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and efforts are in place by the national leadership of the party to resolve political issues in the state.

He said this after his initial statement on Tuesday that he has been given a red card by members of the party in the state and that he is in search of a party where he can pursue his second term ambition.

Ortom who spoke with journalists at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja yesterday July 19th, said the Adam Oshiomhole-led leadership has assured him that no individual in Benue state can pus him out of the party.

“I was given a red card by a Senator…but the leadership of the party told me that the decision of the party leadership at the national level is superior to any individual and I think that is good enough. We have spoken to him, he has spoken to me, stakeholders are going to be spoken to and that is where I belong. We have not concluded the matter, it is an ongoing process because I have always stood for peace and I always want peace to prevail. I appreciate the intervention and I hope that we would be able to resolve the matter of differences and this is the funny thing about politics. I am here in APC, a member of APC, am still flying the flag of APC and I only said I was given a red card but I have been corrected by the national chairman”, he said.

Also commenting, Oshiomhole said the party does not have any red card in its cupboard and cannot give any to its members.

“I have, as the National Chairman, assured him that the APC does not have a red card in its cupboard so we cannot give what we do not have and we recognize that in several states, there could be legitimate legal issues, there could be agreements, disagreements, some contestations and these we are familiar with.

“There are evidences of the fact that we are a free democratic party and when leaders have disagreements, our responsibility is to help them to find a common ground and the issues in Benue are not so fundamental that we cannot resolve. We have made it clear that we would resolve them; and Sen. Akume is a very respected leader of the party, a former governor- he will recognize the need for peace and we have what it takes to make peace.

“In Benue, we are going for a win-win solution. Gov. Ortom is not going anywhere; he is a very prominent member of our party. We appreciate his leadership in Benue and we will do everything possible to help those who have issues to have those issues resolved.

“Anything we would do, we would do, provided the only thing we will not accept is anybody leaving the house that we have built together, that we are committed to and I think the government statement is clear.

”For PDP that is deceiving people, they must know that only people without honour will vomit in the morning and in the afternoon they convert it to lunch. People like Ortom who have honour cannot leave PDP just three and a half years ago with his eyes open and then later there are some tensions in his master bedroom and is thinking of returning to deceiving people. That, cannot be an option. He is a man of honour and he knows that one should look for one step if you want to take the second step to consolidate the first step; that is the way to go.

“Be assured that PDP can go and do whatever they do, it won’t change the minds of those who are convinced about building the future. It would not be without contestations, it will be based on the understanding that we can have contestations, but we have the qualities required to resolve issues. In Benue, those would be deployed and I am sure Gov. Ortom would be happy, Senator Akume would be happy, much more importantly, the great people of Benue state would be happy, not just our party members, because they want to consolidate what works and not to go back to a broken vehicle”, he said.

''I will probe Fayose once I assume office'' Kayode Fayemi

Ekiti state governor-elect, Kayode Fayemi, says he will be probing the financial recor of the incumbent governor, Ayo Fayose, once he assumes office in October this year. Fayemi said this yesterday to state house correspondents when he went to show President Buhari his certificate of return.

According to Fayemi, it is important to know how much revenue the state generated during Fayose's administration and why the Fayose-administration couldn't pay salaries for months.

''It will be irresponsible on my part to say to you that we will not examine what transpired in the last four years in the manner of governance. What were the receipts in terms of revenue into Ekiti state. What were the expenditure in that period? Why were we not able to pay salaries?'' he said

Brazil's Alisson becomes the most expensive goalkeeper ever after sealing £65m move to Liverpool (Photos)

Brazil's No 1 Alisson Becker, 25, has become the most expensive goalkeeper in history after moving to Liverpool from Roma for a world record fee of £65million.

Alisson arrived on Merseyside on Thursday and underwent a medical at Liverpool's Melwood training base, where he signed a six-year deal with the club.

Upon signing the deal, the Brazil international told the Liverpool website: 'I'm really happy, it's a dream come true to wear such a prestigious shirt for a club of this size that is used to always winning.

'In terms of my life and my career, it's a huge step for me being part of this club and this family.

'You can be certain that I'll give my all.'

Speaking on the world record deal, Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp expressed his delight, telling the club website: 'At one point in the last few weeks it came up, the opportunity to sign one of the world's best goalkeepers - then it's not a long thought, to be honest, it's only that you need to have a little talk with the owners! They were quite excited, so we did it.

'I think it's something we have to do. He has nothing to do with the price, we have nothing to do with the price, it's the market, that's how it is and we will not think a lot about it.

'It shows the value of goalkeepers, of course, in this moment. It will happen a lot in the next few weeks I guess and that's it, so we are really happy to have him here now.

'His English is surprisingly good and he is a real personality. He has meanwhile a lot of experience in the last few years, in Europe and in Rome, he's played there on an outstandingly high level and he did the same at the World Cup.

'It was for Brazil not too lucky, that's how it is, but then he played a really good World Cup. So it's just a good moment.'
