CBN Deputy Governor Adebayo Adelabu Resigns

President Muhammadu Buhari has formally accepted the disengagement of the Deputy Governor in charge of Operations at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, with effect from July 15, 2018.

In a letter dated May 24, 2018 and personally signed by him, President Buhari thanked Mr. Adelabu for his services to the country and wished him the best in his future ambitions.

“While appreciating your services in the Central Bank of Nigeria since 9th April 2014, I wish you the very best in your future ambitions and continued commitment to public service in our country and specifically, as you seek to play a more active role in politics, in your home State,” the letter stated.

Adelabu formally assumed duty as Deputy Governor at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on April 9, 2014 and served at different times as Deputy Governor in charge of Financial System Stability (FSS), Corporate Services (CS), and lastly Operations (Ops), before he tendered his letter of disengagement.

The disengagement was not unconnected with his ambition of contesting the governorship of Oyo State in the forthcoming primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He is a direct grandson of late Adegoke Adelabu (aka Penkelemesi), an articulate grassroots politician of the pre-independence political era.

He was an Executive Director/Chief Financial Officer, First Bank of Nigeria (FBN) Plc. He holds a First Class degree in Accounting from the (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

'The future of Nigeria belongs to the youths' - Fayose mocks Fayemi's deputy who is 74 years old

Yesterday, APC governorship candidate in Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi picked 74-year-old Adebisi Egbeyemi as his running mate in the July 14th state governorship election.

Reaction to it, Governor Fayose tweeted, 'today in Ekiti, the PDP Deputy governorship candidate is 39 year old. He became chairman of Ado LG at 35. On the contrary, the APC deputy governorship candidate is 74 year old. He was chairman of Ado LG 25 years ago'.

He also said, 'the future of Nigeria belongs to the youths and we must handover the country to them without restrictions. If at 18, you are old enough to choose, you must also be seen as old enough to be chosen'.

We must have a Nigeria where anyone who is qualified to vote can also be voted for, not this hypocritical signing of "Not Too Young To Run" Bill by the same President who said our youths are lazy and must not run against him in 2019.— Peter Ayodele Fayose (@GovAyoFayose) June 1, 2018

I commend the youths who championed the "Not Too Young To Run" agitation and urge them not to relent because it is not yet uhuru.
We must totally return the country to the youths who own the future of Nigeria. Here in Ekiti, if you are above 40 years, you can't be LG councillor.— Peter Ayodele Fayose (@GovAyoFayose) June 1, 2018

Nothing good comes easy. This dawned on me when I remembered we had our first long discussion with our eyes covered. Knowing you has taught me a lot and I'll forever be grateful. Ups and downs I have faced in life but you added to those people that made the recent ones easy. Taking a step backwards before any decision is one thing you always tell me. You make me strong whenever I feel like giving up. Only 174 days since we met and it feels like I have known you all my life. I have been looking for a befitting birthday gift but to no avail which is explainable. There is nothing on earth that can stand as a gift more special than you and I can't buy you a you. You have taught me that the whole world might be against me but I should always stand for the truth. The knowing of Tobi is the beginning of wisdom. You are a whole lot of work and currently one of the most annoying people I have which makes you part of my family. The world is not ready for you. In you I found a friend to cry with and laugh with,In you I found home,in you I found peace of mind. As you add one year today, May God bless you abundantly. May good things be your portion. May negatively run away from you. Your future is brighter than the sun. Like I always say,Tobi, your happy smile is amazing. Fine boy physically and at heart, thanks for dealing with all my bullshit and trouble. I can never ask for a better friend. I have the king of the best

EFCC boss, Ibrahim Magu tells banks to provide list of corrupt customers

Ibrahim Magu, the acting Chairman of EFCC has asked banks to provide a list of corrupt customers ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Magu urged compliance officers of banks in Nigeria to be more diligent in their responsibilities, as a way of tackling money laundering and other fraudulent practices in the sector. He said compliance officers in various banks in Nigeria must also take ownership of the fight against corruption, which he described as one of the problems bedeviling the banking industry.

Speaking during an interactive session with Association of Chief Compliance Officers of Banks in Nigeria, ACCOBIN, in Lagos on Thursday, May 31, 2018, Magu said: “We need to find a common ground to work together. You have a responsibility to fight corruption.

“The Commission is ready to partner with you to ensure a healthy economy. We are ready to assist the banks in recovering their debts, but compliance officers must ensure due diligence, especially when giving out loans to customers. I know you sometimes need to protect some of your customers. But it is sometimes better that you do without some of these people; otherwise, you will be seen as conspiring with them to steal public funds.”

He further charged banks’ compliance officers to always provide the Commission with necessary information to assist it in carrying out its responsibilities, adding that “We must work together to save this country. Most of the banks are sitting on water. In fact, some of these banks are almost collapsing.

“I know there are questions you can’t ask, particularly it involves some individuals, but if you give us information on such people, we will move in. If there are fundamental issues that can affect your banks, you can give us the information, especially as another general election approaches. I don’t want to be charging banks alongside suspected criminals because doing so can wreak havoc on the economy. It will even discourage investors from coming to the country.”

Police IG, Ibrahim Idris tells Federal High court to declare the Senate's insistence his appearance as 'illegal'

The Inspector of General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has urged the Federal High Court in Abuja to declare as unconstitutional, the Senate’s insistence that he must appear for a legislative hearing in person.

He insisted in his suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/457/2018 and filed on April 30, 2018, that his personal appearance before the Senate was unnecessary because the issues for which he was invited were not personal.

The IGP, through his lawyer, Alex Izinyon (SAN), who filed the suit on his behalf, joined the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, and the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as defendants in his suit.

He noted that if he was to personally honour every invitation sent to the office of the IGP, there would be no time to attend to his main responsibilities. The Senate had in a letter dated April 25, 2018, invited the IGP to appear before it in relation to the purported inhuman treatment of Senator Dino Melaye and the killings in many parts of the country.

The IGP, on April 26, refused to appear before the Senate but delegated the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations) and Commissioner of Police, Kogi State to represent him at the Senate. But the Senate refused to grant an audience to the two representatives, insisting that the IGP must personally appear for the legislative hearing.

The upper legislative chamber then rescheduled the meeting for May 2 and again directed that the IGP must honour its invitation in person. The IGP, in a supporting affidavit accompanying his suit, said his action of delegating his subordinates to appear before the Senate was backed by law.

He said under the Constitution and Police Act, he had the power to delegate responsibilities, including directing some of his subordinates to represent him wherever he was invited, more so that his choice of the DIG (Operations) and CP, Kogi State was on the basis that they were conversant with the issues for which he was invited.

Both Saraki and the Senate, in a counter-affidavit, accused the IGP of using the court to shield himself from being scrutinised by the legislature. They stated that the IGP’s representatives were denied audience because of “the weighty issues which require clarification as they touched on the very soul of our national existence and in order to ensure fruitful and meaningful deliberations.”

They prayed the court to reject the plaintiff’s prayers and dismiss the suit. Justice John Tsoho on Thursday adjourned till June 29 for the hearing of the suit.
