Politicians trust Babalawos more than Security officials- DSS DG

The Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, has said that most politicians, particularly state governors, do not trust security officials and would rather go to spiritualists and native doctors otherwise known as Babalawos for protection.

Bichi said this when he spoke at the retreat for incoming governors organised by the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) that held in Abuja on Monday April 29th.

“I joke with politicians that you people trust the marabouts and babalawos more. Once someone tells you nothing will happen to your seat and it happens, you just trust that person in all crisis." he said

He said there was no lack of Intellegence in the country but rather a lack of will to combat the security challenges.

According to Bichi, some of the security challenges in Nigeria is as a result of many politicians' distrust of security officials.

'We kidnap travelers because government stopped paying us Amnesty allowances'' ,- Rivers state kidnappers tell victims

Members of the notorious kidnapping syndicate that specialise in abducting travelers along major expressways in Rivers state, have given reasons they carry out such criminal acivities.

Recall that in recent times, reports of travelers being abducted along major roads in Rivers state have made major news headlines.

One of the victims of such abductions, Mr Happy, who was kidnapped alongside nine other passengers in a commercial bus on Thursday, April 25th while traveling from Warri to Rivers state, has told newsmen what the kidnappers told them whilst in their hideout.

According to Mr Happy, the kidnappers informed them that they resorted to kidnapping because the Federal government and state governments have stopped their amnesty programme. The programme which was introduced by late President Umar Musa Yar'Adua, ensured that militants who surrendered their arms are placed on a monthly stipend of N65, 000. The militants however complained that this has been stopped and in other to survive and make ends meet, they resorted to the criminal act of kidnapping.

“They came out of the bush and intercepted the bus. They were fully armed and directed every one of us into the bush and kept us there. While they were beating us, they said they kidnapped us because the federal and state government had stopped giving them the amnesty stipends that they received monthly. They said that is why they are kidnapping people and they said they would continue to kidnap people.” Mr Happy said

Mr Happy added that the kidnappers stated that no security agent in Nigeria can stop them from kidnapping.

Nipsey Hussle's sister files to become the legal guardian of his daughter while her mother is still alive

Nipsey Hussle's sister has filed to become the legal guardian of Nipsey's first child, Emani Ashedom.

Emani's mother goes by the name Tanisha Asghedom and Chyna Hussle. She has been known to ruthlessly mock Nipsey's fiancee, Lauren London on social media with posts informing her that she still slept with Nipsey.

Now that Nipsey has been murdered, his sister, Samantha Smith has filed a petition to become the legal guardian of 7-year-old Emani who currently lives with her mum Tanisha, according to court documents obtained by The Blast.

In court documents, Smith says she has "always been a constant presence in Emani's life and along with the rest of Emani’s paternal family has assisted in her care."

Samantha wants to be the girl's legal guardian to ensure that she can make legal custody decisions regarding Emani and "so that she can continue to live with family members with whom she has always had close ties."

'People who say we shouldn’t borrow must find an alternative for us' - Babatunde Fashola replies critics

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has replied those criticising the Federal Government for borrowing funds.

Addressing reporters in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, he asked such people to provide an alternative to sourcing for funds.

“Those who say we shouldn’t borrow must have an alternative answer to where we will get the money. Those who don’t support borrowing, are they ready to support increased taxes?” he asked.

The minister blamed the slow pace of works on the federal road across the country on the paucity of funds. He went on to defend the decision of the government to borrow monies to fund its various projects in the country.

“Where do we get the money,?” Fashola queried. “It is not from President Muhammadu Buhari’s salary or the National Assembly’s salary; we are talking about quantifiable, substantial billions of naira that need to be spent to pay. That is how you move money around the economy because once you pay the contractors, they order sand, cement, iron rods. They don’t keep all those things. Where the money stops, supply stops” the minister said.

Fashola gave assurance that the government would continue to improve the economic wellbeing of the people through infrastructural development in the country.
