Emergence of presidential candidate in 2023 will not be by tribe - Governor Uzodinma

 

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo state has said the emergence of presidential candidates in 2023 will be by party allegiance and not by tribe. 

 

Responding to questions from State House correspondents after a meeting with President Buhari on Tuesday September 1, the Imo state Governor stated that anyone can contest for the presidential ticket on the APC platform as the party does not recognise zoning despite agitation in the South-East zone to produce the president in 2023. 

 

Uzodinma said; 

 

“You know that the position is not vacant now, there is a sitting President and we are practising partisan democracy and not tribal democracy.

“So, the emergence of presidential candidate will come on a party by party basis, not a tribe by tribe basis.

“But if there are other internal factors that will form part of the considerations for parties taking decision, of course, that will be entirely the job of the leadership of those political parties and I think that is the right thing to do.”

 

On his current relationship with former governor Rochas Okorocha, Uzodinma said; 

 

“On the issue of Okorocha, the former governor is my brother, my very good brother in whom I am well pleased.

“I have no issue with him, the only thing is that he is now the former governor and I am now the current governor.

“Once we understand that, we don’t have any issue.”

CAN writes President Buhari, says new CAMA law is grossly ''inimical to national interest and security''

 

The Christian Association of Nigeria says the controversial Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020 recently signed into law by President Buhari is ''grossly inimical to national interest, security (peace and stability), and overall wellbeing of the Nigerian-state''.

 

The umbrella body for all Christians in Nigeria made this known in a letter signed by its President, Dr. Samson Ayokunle, which was delivered to presidential aide, Etta Enang, on Monday, September 1.

 

The letter reads in part,

“We consider the Act, as indeed, a complex of statecraft compendium, laden with issues that are grossly inimical to national interest, security (- peace and stability), and overall wellbeing of the Nigerian-state.

From the reactions of stakeholders and a cross-section of the Nigerian-state, it is apparent that the Act either did not receive input from the respective various interest groups or failed to accommodate their views, sundry concerns and varying interests of the Nigerian people.

Mr President, from the foregoing, we are of the opinion that you should kindly issue the appropriate directives to suspend the implementation of CAMA 2020 and affirm a thorough reappraisal of the legislation that is in correlation with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended), other extant legal and policy frameworks, the national economy, national security, national interest and the wellbeing of the Nigerian-state.”

Several clergymen have expressed their disapproval for the law which among other things, empowers the Federal government to change the board of trustees of a church where financial impropriety is believed to have occurred.

Talk show host, Trevor Noah reportedly dating actress, Minka Kelly

 

Trevor Noah has gotten a new woman in his life.

 

The Daily Show host is now dating 'Friday Night Lights' actress Minka Kelly, a source confirms to PEOPLE. The insider reveals that the two stars have been seeing each other for "several months."

 

 "They're very happy," the source shares. "It's a very serious relationship."

 

 

It was also claimed in the report that the pair are actually living together in New York City. 

 

The couple are yet to publicly confirmed their relationship but Kelly, 40, previously dated Grey's Anatomy star Jesse Williams before their split in January 2018. 

 

As for Noah, 36, he was last romantically linked to ex girlfriend Jordyn Taylor in 2017.

We won’t tolerate disrespect from Buhari’s appointees again - Senate President, Ahmad Lawan

 

Senate President Ahmad Lawan has issued a warning to President Buhari's appointees following the continous face-off that has been recorded between the executive cabinet members and the legislature in the last few weeks. 

 

Addressing State House reporters on Monday August 31 after Buhari inaugurated the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo-led Executive/Legislative/Party Consultative Committee, Lawan disclosed that the President has addressed the issues. 

 

He said; 

 

"I believe that should be the end of it (appointees knocking heads with legislature). We believe that we should work together.

“Mr President made it very clear that he is not going to tolerate any of his appointees doing things that are not respectable, things that have no dignity to the National Assembly.

“For us in the National Assembly, I think what has happened has happened. We pray nobody goes to the National Assembly to do the kind of things that disrespect the President and of course abuse the National Assembly.

“We are not going to tolerate that because anyone who wants to see Nigeria progress will continue to ensure that this consultative forum produces the kind of result and outcomes that will make Nigeria better in terms of governance.”

 

The Senate President who noted that the legislature would always perform its oversight function and check possible excesses of the executive, added that it is incumbent upon APC leaders at all levels and as a party to ensure they met expectations and aspirations of Nigerians by fulfilling the promise made to them during the electioneering campaigns.

 

Lawan said; 

 

“But we also believe that separation of powers also means there should be cooperation, consultation, coordination and partnership for the benefits of the people of this country. This is not in any way to compromise the different functions we’re tasked and scheduled to discharge."

Mariah Carey reveals she felt ‘extremely uncomfortable’ during Ellen DeGeneres interview pushing her to confirm pregnancy

 

Grammy award winning singer, Mariah Carey, has recalled how she felt ‘extremely uncomfortable’ during a 2008 interview with Ellen DeGeneres in which the talk show host forced her to confirm she was pregnant.  

 

Back then, Mariah appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show amid speculation she was expecting a baby with then-husband Nick Cannon.  

 

During the interview, Mariah said that she ‘didn’t want to discuss’ the rumours but Ellen then presented her with champagne so they could ‘toast’ to her not being pregnant.  

 

When Ellen noticed that the Grammy-winning singer pretended to sip the alcohol, she exclaimed: ‘You are pregnant!’ 

 

According to Mariah that incident was uncalled for even though Mariah at the time was indeed expecting a baby.  Sadly, she miscarried shortly after. 

 

Reflecting on the interview now, Mariah told Vulture: ‘I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say. And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath.’  

 

Explaining why she was reluctant to share the news on the Ellen show, Mariah added: ‘I wasn’t ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage.’  

 

Mariah three years later welcomed twins Moroccan and Monroe, now nine, with ex-husband Nick in 2011. 

 

Mariah’s comments come weeks after Ellen's show was accused of having a toxic environment behind the scenes. 

 

She then referred to the scrutiny currently surrounding Ellen and stated: 

‘I don’t want to throw anyone that’s already being thrown under any proverbial bus, but I didn’t enjoy that moment.’  ‘[There’s] an empathy that can be applied to those moments that I would have liked to have been implemented. But what am I supposed to do? It’s like, [sings] “What are you going to do?”’ Mariah added.

American R&B singer, Marques Houston, 39, has married his 19-year-old girlfriend Miya Dickey. 

 

The pair exchanged vows at the Eagle Glen Golf Club in Corona, California on Monday, August 24. The wedding was attended by a small group of friends and family members of the couple. 

 

Houston shared the exciting news and photos from their wedding via his Instagram page. 

 

He wrote in one of his posts : 'We can’t believe the day has finally come! The day when the two of us were bonded together before Jehovah to become one. 'Innocent man is raped and killed' by parents of two little girls who 'lied that he touched them'

 

A man has been raped and killed by parents after young girls "lied" that he touched them below the waist as a "joke", it has been alleged.

 

Truck driver Dmitry Chikvarkin gave the girls aged 3 and 10 a lift to a carer at the request of their parents in Verkhnyaya Pyshma, Sverdlovsk, Russia.

 

However, when Valeria Dunaeva, 25, the mother of the 3-year-old, came to pick the girls, they allegedly told her Chikvarkin "had touched them below the waist".

 

Furious, Dunaeva told her partner Sergey Chabin, 33, dad of the 10-year-old, and the parents allegedly tried to take the law into their own hands.

Chikvarkin was attacked by three men, friends of the couple, and he later died from a head wound sustained during the attack, police in Verkhnyaya Pyshma, Sverdlovsk, Russia, have alleged.

 

A law enforcement source told Znak newspaper: "They found the man who previously gave a lift to the children.

 

"First, he was raped...

 

"Then they smashed his head with the same pipe, breaking his skull."

 

 

Police now claim the older girl, who said Chikvarkin, 48, had touched her and the other child was "lying" as a "joke".

 

A friend of Chikvarkin told Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper: "He just wanted to help by giving the kids a lift, but he was killed. He would never harm children."

 

Dunaeva and Chabin, and Mikhail Ivanov, 27, have now been arrested on murder charges.

 

Local media have reported the pair are charged with "murder with special cruelty by a group of persons by prior conspiracy".

 

Police are also searching for two others who are reportedly on the run.

FIFA suspends Ivorian federation election after the body disqualified Didier Drogba from presidential elections

 

                         

Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba's hopes of becoming the next president of the Ivory Coast Football Federation has been given a new lifeline after football's governing body, FIFA on Friday August 28th requested the suspension of the Ivory coast Football federation's election after the body disqualified the former Chelsea striker from the elections.

 

FIF's threw away Drogba's candidacy saying he had only received the official support of two of a required four Ivorian clubs.

Drogba's election team said on Thursday it expected FIF's decision which claimed he was ineligible to run for the position.

 

"Drogba's staff isn't surprised by this decision to reject the bid. But we remain unfazed. We will react to conform to the texts which surround this election," Mahamadou Sangare, a member of Drogba's team, told AFP.

Now FIFA has waded in.

"We request the suspension of all action in relation to the election process until further notice," a documen released by FIFA, dated August 27, 2020 and sent to FIF said.

Drogba is standing against FIF's former third vice-president Idriss Diallo, as well as the current vice-president of the national body and president of the League Sory Diabate.

 

Trump could start a civil war by not leaving the White House if he’s beaten by Joe Biden - Veteran filmmaker Spike Lee

 

Veteran Hollywood filmmaker, Spike Lee has warned that US president Donald Trump could start up a civil war if he decides not to leave the White House if he's beaten by Democratic challenger, Joe Biden, in the November election.

 

The director's comments came in an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper on Friday August 27.

Lee in the interview said the "hate"that is spread by Trump is "heartbreaking." He spoke about the recent shooting of Jacob Blake, and how "black and brown people" and "black and brown trans people are being shot down like animals."

 

"We have so much hate in the world – specifically the United States of America," Lee said.

"This guy in the White House, and what he's done, and what this just, level of hate, Anderson, it's heartbreaking," Lee told Cooper.

 

Lee added that he "prays to God" that Trump is "out" of the White House on November 3.

"I think you talked about this, too. I have — I think there’s going to be shenanigans, some skulduggery that if he loses, particularly in a close vote, he might not want to leave,” Lee said.

“Anderson, are we coming to a civil war? Lee asked.

"The next civil war in the United States of America. I ask you that question.”

 

Lee admitted he "can't have a restful sleep" because "black and brown people being burdened, shot down, for no other reason because of their skin.

 

The BlacKkKlansman and Chiraq director's comments comes a week after Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said Trump would "investigate ballots" before accepting the result of the November election.

"The president has always said he’ll see what happens and make a determination in the aftermath," McEnany said as she was questioned by reporters about Trump's unsupported claims that mail-in voting will cause fraud.

"It’s the same thing he said last November."

"He wants a free election, a fair election, and he wants confidence in the results of the election, particularly when you have states like Nevada doing mass mail-out voting to their voting rolls," McEnany added.

Man breaks down in tears and rolls in the mud after his girlfriend rejected his marriage proposal in Imo (video)

 

A video of a Nigerian man weeping and rolling in the mud after his girlfriend rejected his marriage proposal has been shared online.

 

According to reports, the incident happened inside a market in Owerri, Imo state. 

 

In the video, the lady could be seen shouting at the man after she refused his proposal. The heartbroken man prostrated on the floor as he pleaded with her to accept his proposal.

Joro Olumofin takes legal action against Tunde Ednut in the US as their beef intensifies

 

Relationship expert, Olumofin has taken legal action against instagram blogger, Tunde Ednut.

 

Both men have been fighting each other online since last year after Tunde Ednut began claiming that Joro's posts are fake and not from readers as he claims. Joro hit back by claiming Tunde Ednut was deported from the UK and is living is the US illegally (read here).

 

For weeks, Tunde has continued posting subliminals directed at Joro. Joro has now taken legal actions.

 

Joro filed a complaint against Tunde with the US Department of States for cyberstalking and criminal defamation, and for allegedly overstaying his visa in the US.

 

Joro made this revelation on Instagram and shared screenshots of the court documents.

 

FFK responds to Daily Trust's statement condemning him over his clash with their reporter in Calabar

 

Femi Fani-Kayode has responded to the statement released by Daily Trust newspapers condemning him for clashing with one of their reporters, Eyo Charles, during a press conference in Calabar, Cross River state on Thursday, August 20.

MY RESPONSE TO THE ASININE CLAIMS OF DAILY TRUST NEWSPAPER

"The Trust Newspaper, in their column titled, 'FANI-KAYODE'S ATTACK ON DAILY TRUST REPORTER: OUR STAND' has indulged in lies, deceit, double-standards and falsehood and written absolute crap. To put it mildly their claims are not only outrageous but also downright asinine.

The truth is that their reporter was sent to insult me, probably with their support and knowledge, and more likely than not he was paid to do it. 

If it is true that he actually asked a question other than the  insulting assertion that I attributed to him in my earlier statement they should produce the video clip of those questions. 

There were over 30 journalists in the room and none of them can produce a clip of where he asked any questions. 

He said only one thing and made only one assertion which was the following: "Well, we do not know who is bankrolling you". 

That is all he said and outside of that he said NOTHING. I challenge the Trust to come out with any evidence to the contrary. 

As regards their claim that he was physically threatened, again it is a lie from the pit of hell. I told him that if he tried such a thing  ever again I would tell him off even harder than I was doing at the time after which he apologised and the matter was closed. 

Outside of that I bear him no malice. If anyone approached or threatened him after the press conference as he has claimed it had nothing to do with me or my staff.  

I did not send anyone to do so and neither do I believe in or indulge in physical threats or violence. If any of my staff ever did such a thing I would sack him on the spot once I see the evidence. 

Given all that I cannot be held responsible for the safety of this rude young man because I do not know what he does or who else he may have insulted, robbed, cheated or offended. 

I do not know whether he is a thief, a murderer, a rogue, a dumpster, a Yahoo boy or one of those morally bankrupt and shameful men that sleeps with other peoples wives. I do not know who may be after him if anyone at all and neither do I care. His present or future travails, if any, have absolutely nothing to do with me.

I can only say that I do not wish him any ill and that as far as I am concerned this matter is closed. I reported him to his boss, who I have known for many years and respect, Alhaji Yusuf Kabir, and that was it.  

As for the management of Daily Trust Newspaper and its editors you should bury your heads in shame. Not only are you a bunch of liars but you have no decency or self-respect. If you were human beings you would have first asked my side of the story before going to press. 

This is especially so since I had already reported the matter to your publisher. To say that I pose a risk to any of your staff's safety is not only laughable but also thoroughly irresponsible. I am a man of peace and I come in peace. 

It would have been better for you if you asked your journalist who gave him the money to come and provoke and insult me. 

Clearly he and those that sent him on this mission impossible got far more than they ever bargained for and I am more than happy with that.
