Photos: Missing 26-year-old woman who escaped abusive boyfriend found murdered in South Africa

Western Cape Police, South Africa have confirmed the death of a 26-year-old woman who went missing two weeks ago.

Her family said Aviwe Jam Jam fled Khayelitsha, Cape Town in July, to escape her abusive boyfriend, Linda Nolili. She was last seen in the Summerville area in Kuilsriver after visiting Nolili.

Jam Jam’s body was identified by her family on Tuesday, August 8th, after it was found dumped at the Vygieskraal Stadium, Athlone, on July 29, roughly 24km from her home. She had been brutally beaten to death.

Captain FC van Wyk, who confirmed the incident said that the post mortem still needed to be concluded.

"On Monday, the body was identified by the family as that of the missing 26-year-old Aviwe Jam Jam who was reported as missing on 2017-07--22 at Mfuleni SAPS," said Van Wyk

The boyfriend was arrested last week in connection with several other cases and is being investigated in connection with her murder, he said.

Marking Women's Day on Wednesday, Minister of Police Fikile Mbalula visited the family at their home

.

He spent more than an hour talking to them in private. Later, he told journalists that police had been looking for the boyfriend in connection with other cases.

"We will never be ruled by criminals and criminals will not rule anybody. We will find them and we will bring them to book. Their days are numbered.

"These people are not enemies to each other, but the devil has come to this community and done the things that they have done to the Jam Jam family ...terrorised them."

Aviwe's aunt Nondumiso Zizi said her niece had told her mother that she had left for Pretoria and that she should not look for her because she was hiding from her boyfriend.

Zizi was unable to confirm when Aviwe left Khayelitsha. She said Aviwe and her boyfriend had been together for "several years" and have a 2-year-old child.

"Aviwe was in an abusive relationship with this boyfriend. Aviwe’s mother tried to warn Aviwe of this, but she wouldn't listen. She loved [her] boyfriend, so there was nothing we could do about it."

"Aviwe’s mother suspected that Aviwe won’t come [back] alive because the way the boyfriend was treating her."

She said the boyfriend had come to their home looking for Aviwe and had attacked her stepfather because he thought the family was hiding Aviwe.
Zizi said the boyfriend and a group of friends attacked the stepfather with a panga and he had to get 12 stitches

.

"He [the stepfather] was bleeding and the whole yard was full of blood because of them and the boyfriend climbed on top of him and said they should kill him."

The boyfriend was arrested shortly after for assaulting the stepfather, said Mbalula.

During the visit, Aviwe’s mother Nomthandazo Jam Jam, 56, proudly showed journalists a photo of Aviwe at her graduation.

Aviwe attained a tourism degree from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT).
Nomthandazo said Aviwe would be missed because she always "brought life" to her home.

Mbalula urged women to report abuse and assault to police as soon as possible.

"Women, stand your ground because if you put up with abuse, you are putting up with death," Mbalula warned.

Photo: Enugu State Governor, Ugwuanyi offers university scholarship to student who made all A's in her WAEC

Chinecherem Cynthia Ali was today awarded scholarship by Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to study in any school of her choice.

Recall that Chinecherem, a student of Shalom Academy, Nsukka, Enugu state, made all A's in the just released West African Examination Council (WAEC) results.

Chibulu Austin disclosed the latest development today on Facebook.

"Thanks to Erochukwu Ugwueze Hon Ethel Ugwuanyi Chibulu Austin Victor Oluchukwu Samuel Ugwu and all who made it possible.
Remember I made a post not long ago about how she made 9A1 in her Waec and also my encounter with her when I visited her school to appreciate her on behalf of my friend who donated to her.
We will keep celebrating excellence and hard work. Enugu Is Truly In The Hands Of God."

In his remark by Governor Ugwuanyi called on students in the state to our children to see Cynthia's achievement as a morale booster that will spur them to higher heights of achievement

"I was excited beyond measure when news got to me that a young girl from our dear State made A1 in all her subjects at the last West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations," he said.

I was excited because as a leader of the people, our vision has been to lay the foundations that does not just encourage but also rewards excellence across all spheres of endeavour.

Cynthia Ali has in no small measure made the entire state proud and her achievement is a demonstration of how our dear state can become great again with exemplary performances such as hers. And I am convinced that what she has done will become a shining beacon of examples that those coming behind her can copy and in the process lift their families, the entire state and the nation.

As a measure of how happy our Government is about the achievement, the State Executive Council (EXCO) at the hallowed Chambers of the Council invited her for commendation. The Commissioner for Education, Prof Uchenna Eze, who spoke on our behalf made it clear how excited we were about what she was able to achieve and offered her a university scholarship.

I have always made clear the determination of my Government to not only reward excellence, but also to create the environment necessary for our young minds to express fully and maximise opportunities that will enable the state become a haven for competent manpower.

As a government, we will continue to invest in education. We are aware that nothing liberates a society more than education.

It is on this note that I call on all our children in public and private institutions of learning to see Cynthia's achievement as a morale booster that will spur them to higher heights of achievement.

I congratulate this our young daughter and my prayer and wish is for more of our children to emulate her example. I also call on all citizens of the State to continue on the path of hardwork and excellence.

In the end, only hardwork and excellence provides enduring reward

#ResumeOrResign: 94 DAYS, Is it true president Buhari is undergoing chemotherapy and that's why he can't return back to Nigeria? Charly Boy

1. In the last 24 hours, reports have emanated from different sources that during the course of his 94 day medical sojourn in the United Kingdom, President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) has received treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer. These reports state that this treatment includes chemotherapy and go further to declare that President Buhari has become affected thereby to the point where he has severe difficulty communicating with the medical personnel treating him as well as close aides and family who are around him.

2. These reports are difficult to confirm or refute because of the secrecy with which President Buhari's aides have handled information related to his illness. The reports are deeply disturbing and are a source of grave concern. Even more disturbing is the fact that there are several conspiracy theories circulating as to the state of health the president and how the secrecy behind his ailment persists only to favor the cabals and influence peddlers playing chess with the lives of 200million Nigerians.

3. It is in this light that we ask the Presidency to clear the air by providing full disclosure of the details of the illness which the President suffers from and the nature of treatment he is undergoing to combat such illness.

4. Nigerians will recall that for a long time, false information has been peddled around parts of the country that President Buhari was poisoned. Therefore, It is imperative to point out that only full disclosure of the details of the President’s ill-health will put an end to reports of this nature and prevent the sort of social upheaval the lack of information may cause.

5. Finally, we have read the statement made by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Publicity, Alhaji Garba Shehu, to the effect that our demands for full disclosure and resignation upon confirmation of incapacitation are an attempt to distract the government from the fight against corruption.

It is shameful that this pedantic sort of reasoning is still being applied to critical issues at this point of our national history. At no point has any correlation been made between our demands on President Buhari's health status and the fight against corruption.

Therefore, and for the avoidance of doubt, we urge the government to continue the fight against corruption by arresting, prosecuting and securing the conviction of any person or group of persons who are found guilty of looting the nation's treasuries. At the same time, we urge government to ensure it fully discloses the details of President Buhari’s illness.

God bless Nigeria.

Photos: Smugglers throw hundreds of African migrants off boats headed to Yemen, 29 bodies found- UN Immigration.

Total of 300 migrants have reportedly been forced from boats over the past two days by smugglers off the coast of Yemen – many feared dead or missing, the United Nations migration agency has reported.

“The survivors told our colleagues on the beach that the smuggler pushed them into the sea when he saw some 'authority types' near the coast,” said Laurent de Boeck, the Yemen Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM ).

“They also told us that the smuggler has already returned to Somalia to continue his business and pick up more migrants to bring to Yemen on the same route. This is shocking and inhumane. The suffering of migrants on this migration route is enormous. Too many young people pay smugglers with the false hope of a better future,” Mr. de Boeck added.

According to IOM, up to 180 migrants were reportedly thrown into the sea from a boat today by the smugglers. Five bodies have been recovered so far, and around 50 are reported missing.

This latest incident comes barely 24 hours after smugglers forced more than 120 Somali and Ethiopian migrants into the sea as they approached the coast of Shabwa, a Yemeni Governorate along the Arabian Sea, resulting in the drowning of around 50 migrants. The migrants had been hoping to reach countries in the Gulf via war-torn Yemen.

Shortly after yesterday's tragedy, IOM staff found the shallow graves of 29 migrants on a beach in Shabwa, during a routine patrol. The dead had been quickly buried by those who survived the smuggler's deadly actions. The approximate average age of the passengers on the boat was 16.

“The Secretary-General is heart-broken by this continuing tragedy,” his Spokesman Stéphane Dujarric told reporters at the daily briefing in New York.

“This is why he continues to stress that the international community must give priority to preventing and resolving a variety of situations which both generate mass movement and expose those already on the move to significant danger,” he added, underscoring the need to increase legal pathways for regular migration and offer credible alternatives to these dangerous crossings for people in need of international protection.

Since January of this year, IOM estimates that around 55,000 migrants left the Horn of Africa to come to Yemen, most with the aim of trying to find better opportunities in the Gulf countries. More than 30,000 of those migrants are under the age of 18 from Somalia and Ethiopia, while a third are estimated to be female.

This journey is especially hazardous during the current windy season in the Indian Ocean. Smugglers are active in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, offering fake promises to vulnerable migrants.
