New study finds that 78% of black fathers are unmarried

A new study has found that most black fathers are unmarried and this revelation has led to a coversation online.

The study carried out by the Centers For Disease Control reveals that more than 3/4 of all Black fathers are not married. The study also found that 72% of Black men have had children by age 44. But only 27% of African American fathers were ever married to the child’s mother. That number applies irrespective of the race of the child's mother.

The study goes on to point out that 78% of Black men with kids fathered at least one child outside of marriage.

Past studies have pointed out the high percentage of unwed Black mothers. The new study pointing out the percentage of unwed fathers exposes a crisis among Black men and social media activists are concerned by the high percentage of unwed fathers.

Ekiti State local government workers begin indefinite strike

The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Ekiti will begin an indefinite strike today. The union said the strike followed the failure of the state government to honour an agreement signed recently at the Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting of September 4.

NULGE also warned the outgoing Ayo Fayose administration against fresh recruitment when it had yet to clear the salary arrears owed workers. The union said after a meeting in Ado-Ekiti that the strike would be indefinite until all contentious issues were addressed. It warned that it would not hesitate to deal with any worker who disobeyed the directive.

A communiqué signed by the state’s President, Olubunmi Ajimoko, and Secretary, Suleiman Alero, expressed concern that salaries had remained static and pensions unpaid.

”We again wish to stress that additional burden should not be put on JAAC until our various arrears are cleared. The case of those termed “hurriedly employed’’ in 2003 should serve as a lesson to all who remember history. In view of the insensitivity of this present administration, even at the point of winding up, when we feel that corrections of past errors should be made, it has become painfully obvious that no concrete agreement can be respected by this administration.

The union is therefore calling all its members in the 16 local governments, the related commission, boards and departments to proceed on an indefinite strike action from Friday. We humbly wish to stress that this position will only be reviewed when we see a physical evidence of the political will to alleviate our members’ predicament, especially payment of all arrears of our salaries,’’ the communique said.

Vote Buying: Oshiomole fires back at Jonathan, says former president is a ''zoologist from the swamps of Otueke who ran a disastrous presidency''.

APC National chairman, Adams Oshiomole, has fired back at former presidnet Goodluck Jonathan, who in a statement released by his media aide, Ikechuwku Eze, said Oshiomole is under enormous stress and in a fragile psychological state. Jonathan said this while reacting to Oshiomole's claim that vote buying during an election, started in his administration.

In a statement released by his chief Press Secretary, Simon Ebegbulem, Oshiomole said Jonathan is a zoologist from the swamps of Otueke who ran a disastrous presidency. He said it was an all time low for the former president to question Oshiomhole’s mental health in his response.

“If the allegation that the APC national chairman is having psychological issues with the even more specific reference to “multiple personality syndrome,” came from a doctor of human medicine with specialisation in psychology, it could debatably enjoy some merit. But Jonathan is a zoologist from the swamps of Otuoke. This is clearly veering from his turf and unworthy of further debate. Probably still retaining some remnant of conscience after a disastrous presidency, he was stung when APC national chairman recently correctly accused him specifically and his party of birthing vote-buying and encouraging electoral fraud in Nigeria. After unseemly name-calling, the former President without even addressing the core points raised by Oshiomhole felt the easier path was to counter-accuse the APC leader with exactly the same damning allegation.” Ebegbulem said

The media aide to Oshiomole insited that the Goodluck Jonathan's administration, initiated vote buying in 2015 elections. He alleged that during the elections in Edo state, the former president injected billions of naira as well as other states of the nation to secure votes for his second term bid which he lost to President Buhari.

Briefing newsmen, the CP said the suspects were nabbed in Nkwerre on September 11. According to him, he activated the Tactical Units of the command to nab the fleeing criminals, and the efforts of the command paid off with the arrest of the two suspects, recovery of the priest’s vehicle and bag.

APC reacts to Dogara's planned defection, says he would be embarrassed at the polls

APC National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Naben, has reacted to the planned defection of speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, from APC to PDP.

In a chat with newsmen, Yekini advised Dogara not to seek re-election because he will be embrarrassed and humilated at the polls.

“We have received several media requests for a reaction to the purported defection of the Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to one of the opposition political parties, as reported in the media. In reacting, a recent comment by President Muhammadu Buhari aptly sums Dogara’s reported defection: The weakest people whose senses of expectation do not align with our vision have exited our party.”

“Dogara’s reported defection has not come to us as a surprise. It was only a matter of time, judging by Dogara’s anti-party antics in the National Assembly where in connivance with the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, he exploited all available avenues to sabotage and undermine the APC-led executive. Dogara’s anti-party activities which enabled one of the opposition Party’s sole victory in Bogoro Local Government Area (Dogara’s council) during the recent Bauchi South Senatorial bye-election won by the APC is another pointer, among several others.

“Indeed, all politics is local. As a party, we empathise with Dogara on his confusion and despair over his bleak political future given the fact that he is not on ground and a political paperweight in his home Bauchi state. In his emergence as Speaker, Dogara was merely used by his political master to achieve their selfish political ends at the time. They have since moved on to pursue their individual political aspirations and left Dogara in the cold.

“We would advise Dogara against his ill-advised decision to recontest his House of Representatives seat under the opposition party he is linked with because a crushing and humiliating defeat surely awaits him. As a party, we remain united and committed to our progressives ideologies. We urge party faithful to consolidate on our strengths and collectively go into the 2019 general elections as a united and strong political fighting force to sustain the Change Agenda we are implementing for the benefit of Nigerians.”
