'Obasanjo has been obsessed with a National conference since 2005 without any benefit to the nation - Ex-Zamfara Governor, Abdulaziz Yari

Former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari has faulted ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo’s call for a new National Conference to address the nation’s security challenges.

He said Obasanjo has been obsessed with conferences since 2005 without any benefit to the nation. He said it was on record that the massacre of innocent citizens in Zaki Biam in Benue state and Odi in Bayelsa State was during the tenure of Obasanjo. He urged all political leaders to eschew bitterness and support security agencies to restore law and order.

He said security challenges, particularly terrorism, is not peculiar to Nigeria. He called for an end to blame games on the challenges confronting the nation. He said it was wrong to geo-politicize internal security problem and blame it on a particular section of the country, or an ethnic group. He accused some elements from the Southwest and the Southeast in particular, of making political capital out of the current challenges at the detriment of the overall commonwealth of the country.

Yari, who was the immediate past chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum(NGF), said terrorism is one issue that has dominated the world scene for more than a decade. The ex-governor made his views known in a statement in Abuja through his Media Aide, Ibrahim Dosara. He faulted the stigmatization of Fulani as criminals. He said: “In his letter, Obasanjo called for national conference.

The former leader has been obsessed with conferences since the one he organized in 2005 to perpetuate himself in power through third term failed woefully. “President Goodluck Jonathan also organized a conference purportedly to advance his ambition.Tax payers funds and quality time was wasted on the conferences but with nothing to show for it. Neither of the leaders implemented the reports of the conferences they organized.

“It is high time for all political leaders to eschew bitterness and avoid using our fellow citizens as guinea pigs in our ambitious political laboratories. Our security agencies should be supported and allow to perform their duties of maintenance of law and order without fear or favour, and without infecting ethic and sectional or religious venoms into their modus operandi.”

Court rejects Atiku’s returning officer’s request to amend statement

The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) has rejected the request by the National returning Officer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the last presidential election, Osita Chidoka to amend his written statement on oath.

Chidoka, who mounted the witness box today as the petitioners’ fourth and star witness for the day, was asked by the petitioners’ lawyer, Chris Uche (SAN) to identify and adopt his written statement, as was the case with other earlier witnesses.

Unlike the case with other witnesses before him, Chidoka sought to amend some portions of his written deposition (statement on oath) before he will adopt as his statement in the case before the court. While Chidoka went about identifying the part of his statement he wanted to amend, but which the court rejected on the grounds that, having signed as his, he could no longer amend.

Defend yourselves against ethnic militia groups in a manner that nobody would try such again - Miyetti Allah to herdsmen

p

Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, the body uniting Fulani herdsmen in the country has told its members to defend itself against ethnic militia groups in a manner that nobody would try such again, following warnings that came after recent killings witnessed in various parts of the country.

Speaking to Punch just few days after President Muhammadu Buhari asked Fulani herdsmen to ignore calls by northern elders to return to the north if they feel threatened in the south, the National Secretary of the group, Saleh Alhassan, warned that governors in the southern part of the country would be held responsible if any of their members was attacked.

He said, “We are Nigerians and we have a history. Anybody that thinks he can wake up and take on the Fulani pastoralist is making a grievous mistake; we are well prepared to defend our fundamental human rights of movement in this country.

“They (herdsmen) are Nigerians, so they are entitled to stay where they are. They should remain where they are and defend themselves against ethnic militia and assert their citizenship in this country.

“The only thing we would say is that we will hold all the governors of those states responsible for their safety and security, but if any ethnic militia, by any name, attacks our members, they should defend themselves in a manner that nobody would try such again.

“We have been saying it that people behind insecurity are not herders; bandits are behind these killings, and if the government is saying foreigners have infiltrated the herders, have they been arrested and what is their nationality? Anybody that is trying to destabilise this country should be dealt with.”

On calls by some northern groups that they should vacate the southern part of the country, Alhassan said;

“Those so-called northern youths called coalition of northern groups should note that if because of their action any herder is killed, we will first look for them before we go after our enemies.

“We are Nigerians and we are not going anywhere. Our attachment to the land is opportunistic; we don’t farm the land. So, if anybody is thinking that because he has cultivated the land in a particular place for long and he has rights there more than us, then we would ask where is the grazing area that the colonial masters created for us?

“Politicians can play their politics but they should leave our people out of it because it is the desperate politicians that are causing this confusion and they are looking for anything to hang on to, but we are watching them critically.

“If you threaten the herders, they react; they cannot be used for any political game because we have our way of defending ourselves. We hate injustice and we fight it. Anybody that thinks we can be squeezed is making a mistake.”

He added that grazing reserves that were carved out before the country’s independence, should be developed to serve their purpose, and also end persistent clashes between herders and their host communities.

“When we begin to discuss the Nigeria question, we would ask where the grazing reserves are because we know them and we have the records of where they are,” he added.

I didn’t believe it when my cousin Chioma told me she was dating Davido – Peruzzi

Peruzzi recounted how hard it was for him to believe that his distant cousin Chioma was dating Davido, as he talked about how his relationship with the DMW boss began.

According to the Peruzzi, he first got news of Chioma dating Davido after his mother's burial which was also when he noticed that Davido was always supporting his songs and brand on his social media platform.

He said, “After my mother’s burial; I was going home and someone sent me a message on Twitter, commending my song. The person asked if I remembered her. After she explained who she was, I remembered her. She told me Davido sent my song to her. I didn’t believe it. She further told me that they were dating and she is like my distant cousin, so I didn’t even see it coming.

“I felt like how can she be dating Davido and I wouldn’t know since. She was able to convince me after she sent me some pictures; she told me he was going to be around the next day. She invited me to his welcome party and I went there around 2 am at Club 57.

“Once Davido entered with his entourage, I was scared. He was facing me, but I didn’t know what to do. I moved to see him carefully. He looked at me and called my name. I was happy and I held him. He told me he loved my songs and that I should come to his house. That was the best night of my life. I sent Chioma a text; that I was with him.

“I couldn’t sleep that night because I was too excited. She (Chioma) is my mother’s cousin’s daughter. But she is my cousin; that is how we refer to each other. I don’t have a proper contract with Davido; he is my guy so I am not worried about that. Some people have lived with him for years without any contract.”

On how he felt after he was insulted for wearing Davido’s clothes, Peruzzi told Saturday Beats;

“How would you see something you like and you can’t tell your male friend that you like it? I told him I liked an outfit and he gave it to me. I have come to realise that no matter what I do, people would talk. I don’t let it get to me.”

He also talked about selling his car to buy some drugs for his ailing mother before she died, and completing his degree in medicine and surgery;

“When we realised my mother was diagnosed with cancer; I had to put my car on auction immediately. I wanted to quickly send money to people to help me get the drugs she needed. I could only get the drugs from India but they still didn’t work. I still see myself going back to complete my degree in medicine and surgery but I don’t see myself sitting in the hospital.”

If Bayelsa has three senators as Kano, then the context of one Nigeria is fair – Buhari

President Buhari while speaking when members of the Muhammadu Buhari/Osinbajo Dynamic Support Group visited him at the Presidential Villa, maintained that the 1999 Constitution was fair to all parts of the country.

He backed his claim with proposition of the constitution, which held that each state must have a minister representing it in the cabinet. Buhari also stated that if Bayelsa, a small state with only eight local governments would have three senators in the National Assembly just like a big state like Kano with 44 local governments, then the context of one Nigeria is fair.

“The Constitution facilitates one thing; that there must be a member of the (Federal) Executive Council from each state of the federation.

“Why I praise the authors of our constitution is that Bayelsa with eight local governments has three senators and Kano with 44 (local governments) has three senators. So, you can’t be fairer than that in the context of one Nigeria.

“Please, try and understand that I appreciate you, you are doing a thankless job; nobody is paying you. You use your resources and time to come together and discuss national issues. I pray God will help us to keep this country strong economically and morally" Buhari said.

FAAN suspends Lagos airport security heads over arrested stowaway

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) which started off an investigation into the stowaway incident recorded on Friday at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos, has suspended the security heads of the facility indefinitely.

Recall that there was a security breach at the Lagos airport yesterday morning, when an Azman flight taking off for Port Harcourt from Lagos aborted its journey after an unidentified man carrying a bag held on to the wings of the aircraft awaiting final clearance from the control towers to take off.

Speaking on the incident, the General Manager, Corporate Affairs, FAAN, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu said a thorough check was conducted on the aircraft before its eventual takeoff.

She said, “At about 1009 hours, aviation security officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria arrested an intruder who was sighted trying to climb into an Azman aircraft waiting for clearance from Air Traffic Controllers.

The pilot of the Azman aircraft with registration number 5N-HAI departing Lagos for Port Harcourt reported the incident and Avsec officials swiftly responded. The man has been apprehended and is now in Avsec’s custody. The authorities are already investigating the incident.”

The Lagos airport security heads suspended indefinitely pending the conclusion of investigation, include the Airport Chief of Security, Mamman Sadiku; International Terminal Security Officer, Oni Abiodun; Head of Department, Domestic Terminal 2, Owotor Okezie, and Head of Department, Domestic Terminal 1, Badejo Ayodele.

“In the interim, a general manager of the authority, Dr. Anne Enyinnaya-Egbadon, has been detailed to take charge of security at the airport. Other affected officers have also been replaced. The current arrangement is aimed at ensuring an efficient and thorough investigation towards the recovery and sustenance of the airport’s proactive security integrity.

“FAAN views this breach as a serious security concern and has commenced investigation to ascertain the causes of this incident and forestall future occurrence" Yakubu added.

It’s has been an eventful and most memorable opportunity to serve my country with pride, passion and to contribute my quota to the development of our football, the memories would stay with me for a long time and I’m immensely grateful. It is now time to concentrate on Club football and give the younger players chance to learn and grow.

I would love to thank the NFF, coach Gernot Rohr for believing in me against all odds,to my teammates for their professionalism and team spirit without you guys I wouldn’t have achieved so much with this team.

To NIGERIAN football fans all over the world,I SAY THANK YOU, you were always there to cheer us on and our 12th players every time we step into the pitch. I will be watching and cheering the SUPER EAGLES from this side. THANK YOU.....signing OUT.
