Phyno, Pia Mia, Pulse, the controversial song and all the drama

Once again, there is drama in the Nigerian music scene and this time a lot of the players involved are really angry. So here's the gist. The song ‘I’m a fan’ is in the center of an international drama & while music fans are shrugging it off as a publicity stunt, music pundits believe it goes deeper that that.

In 2016 Phyno dropped his second album titled 'Paymaker' and it had a song called 'I'm a fan' featuring Mr Eazi and Decarlo. Then two days ago, American singer and songwriter, Pia Mia, released a version of the same song 'I'm a fan' which featured singer Jeremih.

Her version of the song had striking similarities with one released by Phyno including the production, chorus, and verse. Immediately after her own release, the internet went bunkers. Then Pulseng went on to do a report on the story that partly reads;

'According to verified sources close to Phyno’s camp, the rapper was working on incorporating Island-ready production on his sophomore album to tap into the international market. He was in talks with Remo (the producer), who sent him the song to work with. “The guy sent the song to us, and we wanted to work together, but something happened and we couldn’t use it,” a source told Pulse'.The Pulseng report continues to say,

'due to issues regarding remuneration, clearances and demands, Phyno and Remo did not work together. But Phyno liked the idea of the sound, so he sought the help of producer Benjamz, who reconstructed the single, and brought on Mr Eazi and Decarlo to collaborate and release the record. Remo, who had totally abandoned the Phyno project, still has his music, and so when Pia Mia tapped him and Jeremih for a new record, they had this one ready-made for her to record and release'.This report and alleged source from Phyno's camp didn't go down well with the rapper who immediately took has to twitter to call out Pulse and indirectly threaten legal actions.

Lagos state writes police to transfer Mercy Aigbe's domestic abuse case files

The Lagos State Government has written a letter through the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, DPP, demanding that the Nigerian Police should forward the duplicate of the case file on the alleged domestic assault meted out on actress Mercy Aigbe by her husband Lanre Gentry.

The letter indicated the interest of the state government in prosecuting the assault case in the earliest possible time so that both victim and offender can have their case resolved promptly.

This is in line with the statement made by the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem, during this year’s ministerial briefing

Mr Kazeem said: “The DPP is committed to ensuring that all offenders are brought to book thereby discouraging impunity in our society. We are also committed to speedy trials, especially so that suspects are not detained for too long awaiting trial. It is our belief that both the victims of a crime and the alleged offenders deserve to have their cases resolved at the earliest possible time.”

Vanguard reports that the resolve to write the Police was sequel to the result of the recent medical check-up conducted on Mercy Aigbe that indicated alleged assault by her husband. Asides writing to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigative Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos Mainland Local Government, DPP also copied other relevant agencies, to alert them of its plan.

It would be recalled that the Coordinator of the State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, DSVRT, Mrs. Titilola Vivour- Adeniyi, had argued during a sensitization programme that Domestic Violence is a crime committed against the State. She said that if anyone is abused, the state is also being abused, hence our mindsets have to change and domestic violence has to be treated as a crime against the state.

Photos: "I am in a better place" Prince William speaks to British GQ about Mental Health and his mother's death

As part of the ongoing Heads Together campaign, Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge has opened up about his mental health and discussed the death of his mother with GQ's Alastair Campbell, a mental health campaigner, who shares a common cause to tackle the taboo around mental health.

In a wide-ranging conversation the Duke reveals his determination to get the nation talking more about emotions and feelings.

His Royal Highness was photographed for the magazine with The Duchess, Prince George and Princess Charlotte by Norman Jean Roy at Kensington Palace in April. Read some selected extracts from the interview and see some of the photographs by Roy below:

Prince William on missing his mother Diana, Princess of Wales
"I would like to have had her advice. I would love her to have met Catherine and to have seen the children grow up. It makes me sad that she won’t, that they will never know her."

Prince William reveals the ultimate goal of the Heads Together campaign
"Smashing the taboo is our biggest aim. We cannot go anywhere much until that is done. People can’t access services till they feel less ashamed, so we must tackle the taboo, the stigma, for goodness sake, this is the 21st century.
I have been really shocked how many people live in fear and in silence because of their mental illness. I just don't understand it. I know I come across as quite reserved and shy, I don’t always have my emotions brewing, but behind closed doors I think about the issues, I get very passionate about things. I rely on people around me for opinions, and I am a great believer in communication on these issues.
I cannot understand how families, even behind closed doors, still find it so hard to talk about it. I am shocked we are so worried about saying anything about the true feelings we have. Because mental illness is inside our heads, invisible, it means others tread so carefully, and people don’t know what to say, whereas if you have a broken leg in plaster, everyone knows what to say.

Prince William on the imminent 20th anniversary of the death of his mother Diana, Princess of Wales
“I am in a better place about it than I have been for a long time, where I can talk about her more openly, talk about her more honestly, and I can remember her better, and publicly talk about her better.
"It has taken me almost 20 years to get to that stage. I still find it difficult now because at the time it was so raw. And also it is not like most people’s grief, because everyone else knows about it, everyone knows the story, everyone knows her. It is a different situation for most people who lose someone they love, it can be hidden away or they can choose if they want to share their story.

Prince William on the importance of family
"I could not do my job without the stability of the family. Stability at home is so important to me. I want to bring up my children in a happy, stable, secure world and that is so important to both of us as parents."I want George to grow up in a real, living environment, I don’t want him growing up behind palace walls, he has to be out there. The media make it harder but I will fight for them to have a normal life.

A man who survived the July 2007 train bomb blast, Tony Walter, 52, was found dead hours after the Manchester bomb blast which killed 22 people and injured several others, last Monday night after the Ariana Grande concert. Walter was discovered at his home after failing to show up at work. A friend said: “He is the 23rd victim of Salman Abedi‘s suicide bombing.
” Friends believe he killed himself because he was overwhelmed by the horror of yet more innocent lives lost to terrorism. One said: “He didn’t want to live in a world where these terror attacks continue.”

Police found the 52-year-old dead at his home when he failed to turn up to work after suicide bomber Salman Abedi murdered 22 and injured 116 at Manchester Arena.

On July 7, 2007, Tony was yards from fanatic Mohammad Sidique Khan when he detonated a device on a Tube train after it left Edgware Road station. Seven people, including Khan, died. Tony was showered with shrapnel but survived.

Friends believe the Manchester bombing, coupled with the Westminster attack in March when four people were killed by Khalid Masood, brought back traumatic memories of 7/7 and Tony could not cope. Staff at the London legal firm where he worked were told by a boss on Thursday morning that he had taken his own life. The friend said: “Everyone is distraught by Tony taking his life.

“After the Westminster attack Tony really struggled. “He was off work for a few days saying he couldn’t cope with how it brought back the memories of 7/7.Staff at the London legal firm where Tony worked said he was forced to take time off after the Westminster attack in March 2017.

“Eventually he returned to work but seemed so withdrawn and glum. We were worried about him. “When he didn’t appear at work following the Manchester Arena atrocity, his colleagues began to get worried. He’d not been in a good way and people were concerned at his state of mind.
“We knew it was serious and feared the worst, so contacted the police. Officers made the discovery of Tony at his home. “Everyone that knew Tony believes he is the 23rd victim of the Manchester Arena attack.

"I had never met Tinubu when he made me commissioner' - acting president, Yemi Osinbajo reveals

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, says he hadn't met former Lagos state governor, Bola Tinubu, before the latter made him the state Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state during his administration between 1999 and 2007. Speaking at the gala night to celebrate Lagos at 50 over the weekend, Osinbajo said;

“I did not and I had never met Bola Tinubu before I was appointed commissioner and that says a lot about the kind of individual that he is. This is the kind of thinking that makes nations great; that is the kind of thinking that would make Nigeria great. A type of thinking that considers all of our diverse talents; a kind of thinking that does not allow parochialism; a kind of thinking that does not allow us to say anywhere belongs to only a set of people. That is when our country would be truly great.”
