Campari Nigeria fetes distributors

Nigeria’s rising status as a premium market for spirits was celebrated in high style on Friday 31 March 2017, when Brian Munro Limited, sole distributor of Campari in Nigeria held its Annual Distributor Awards for the 2016 financial year.
The annual Campari Distributor Awards honours and compensates outstanding Distributors of the brand.

Campari Nigeria ambassador 2Baba kicked off the festivities with a scintillating rundown of his classic and latest hits before a select crowd of celebrities, marketers, customers and distributors alike at the Renaissance Hotel, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, while TEE-A delivered his signature rib-cracking humour over the course of the evening, to the delight of the audience.

Paul Wilson, Managing Director, Brian Munro said: “Our remarkable brand has the distinction of being complemented by remarkable marketers and distributors, who have worked tirelessly despite the biting recession witnessed in 2016”

Nigeria is one of over 190 countries across the globe where Campari is distributed, with the distinctive, vibrant red alcoholic liqueur renowned for being the base of some of the world’s most famed cocktails. Guests at the Campari Distributors Award were no different, as the Campari Senator cocktail—a mix of Beer and Campari—proved a perennial favourite.

Campari Brand Manager, Rilwan Shofunde said the trend was a consequence of prior strategic moves to broaden Campari’s consumer base: “In November 2016 we hosted Nigeria’s first ever cocktail festival, where prominent mixologists showcased their skills. Since then, we’ve seen a rise in consumption of the Campari Senator, in particular, which is why it is the highlight of tonight’s celebrations. Accordingly, the dress code chosen for the event was the traditional “Senator” outfit.”

Attendees did not disappoint, with media practitioners, distributors and socialites showcasing the rich cultural context behind the Campari Senator cocktails in their attires of choice.

Notable personalities in attendance included 2Baba, Tee-A, Kelly Handsome among others

China bans its Muslims from having 'abnormal beards' or wearing veils

China's Xinjiang region is home to a Muslim majority and the area has been plagued with religious restiveness in recent years. As part of the new 'Regulations on Extremisation of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region', the country has introduced a ban on 'abnormal' beards and wearing of veils in public places. Refusal to watch or listen to state media has also been outlawed. The new rules which come into effect from April 1 states:

'Parents should use good moral conduct to influence their children, educate them to revere science, peruse culture, uphold ethnic unity and refuse and oppose extremism'.
Workers in public spaces such as stations and airports will be asked to 'dissuade' those who fully cover their bodies including veiling their faces from entering. They will also be required to report them to the police.

China claims that the legal, cultural and religious rights of Muslims in Xinjiang are fully protected but people from the region resent what they view as increasing restrictions on their culture and religion. China is home to 1.8 million Muslims and 10 million of them are from Xinjiang province

Earlier this month, ISIS released a video depicting children from Xinjiang training and listening to preachers. The group has vowed to return home and 'shed rivers of blood'.
