Italy earthquake: Mass funeral held for 35 victims amidst tears and anguish as death toll rises to 291

Survivors, family, friends consumed by grief bury the first 35 victims of the earthquake in Ascoli Piceno, the capital of the Marche region. Italian President Sergio Mattarella, Senate President Pietro Grasso, Lower Chamber President Laura Boldrini and Italian Premier Matteo Renzi also attended the funeral service.

Dozens of flower-covered caskets were lined up in a gymnasium as people bid farewell to loved ones, kneeling, crying inconsolably and placing their hands on the caskets. Hundreds more stood silently outside, others hugged each other as Giovanni D'Ercole, the Bishop of Ascoli, implored them not to lose faith.
"Don't be afraid to scream your suffering, but do not lose courage. Together we will rebuild our houses and churches. together, above all, we will give life back to our communities...the village bells will ring once again."
The death toll in the 6.2-magnitude earthquake stands at 291 people as worst-hit town, Amatrice had a total of 230 residents and tourists dead. At least 387 people are in hospital. Three more bodies were pulled from the town's Hotel Roma overnight and there are fears yet more bodies will be recovered.
Italian magistrates have opened investigations into some of the incidents.
"What happened cannot just be considered fate,' said prosecutor Giuseppe Saieva, who is leading the probe. 'If these buildings had been constructed like they are in Japan then they would not have collapsed," he told La Repubblica Newspaper.
At least 16 foreigners died, 10 Romanians, 3 Britons and one each from Canada, El Salvador and Spain.

Fans say this selfie is proof that Tupac is alive

He was gunned down in Las Vegas 1996 at the age of 25 but conspiracy theories surround his demise and rumours abound that he is alive.

The latest 'proof' that the rapper is not dead is a selfie (left) included in a YouTube video allegedly showing Tupac - or a man who looks similar to him. Subtitles in the video allege the picture was taken in in 2015 on a phone 'made in 2011'. The clip has been watched more than 1.4 million times.

a

Suge Knight, the former CEO of Death Row Records who was with Tupac on the night of the shooting added fuel to the fire in 2012 when he hinted the rapper may be alive, he said he never saw the body.

'Maybe the question is, Pac's not really dead. Pac's somewhere else,' he said during a radio interview.
Other 'new' pictures of the rapper have emerged in the past, however they have been proven to be of other people or edited.

Amber Rose says she has lost count of the number of men she's slept with

The mother of one who married rapper, Wiz Khalifa and dated Kanye West, said she’s had so many lovers that she’s completely lost track of the number.

While chatting with rapper, Ty Dollar Sign who was a guest on her show, Amber Rose revealed that she has lost count of all the men she has been with.
'I'm 32-years-old, I've been around the block a few times, I'm not going to sit there and count,' she revealed during The Amber Rose Show.
'Especially all the times I said he could put the head in, then take it out, does that count?because I used to be so good for that, I was the queen of that.'
The rapper in turn said a girl's 'number' doesn't matter to him.
'It's kind of corny, it doesn't matter that much…if she says ten that means about 100 right,' he said.
'That's true,' agreed Rose.
Ty Dolla Sign also speculated that some women 'hold back' in the bedroom.
'Yeah like if you s*ck d*ck too good the first time guys will be like "mmm I can't make a wife of her because she s*cks d*ck too good,"'Rose replied brazenly.

Earlier in the show Rose sympathized with a woman in the audience, whose boyfriend could not give her orgasms as satisfying as the ones she gives herself.
'I'm in the same boat,' said Rose who has been known for her outspoken 'sex talks' on the show.
'I feel like I have to masturbate in front of a guy to show him exactly how it's done, I’m like "right there" and then he moves and I'm like "why did you move"?' She complained.
She also spoke about gender inequality, she asked: 'Why are men allowed to have mistresses and why aren't women allowed to have…there's not even a word for it, side d*ck? Men get praise for it'.

Comedian Author Sarah Colonna who was in the audience ventured an explanation saying: 'Women hold families together, if women cheat men fall apart,' but Rose had a different reason. She said women are smarter with their affairs.
'We [women] are smart enough to not let the men find out, I feel like guys get so sloppy, Women have an intuition, if he lies we know…sometimes we in denial like "he wouldn't do that to me…but at the same time we like "bi*ch I know he did that".

Ambode gives December deadline for delivery of Berger expansion projects.. As Lagos completes fourth Lay-by in Oworonsoki

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode at the weekend carried out extensive inspection of on-going projects across the State, among which is the multi-faceted expansion projects at the ever busy Berger Bus Stop.

The Governor, who ordered contractors to work day and night on the projects to ensure completion by December 2016, said the directive became imperative in view of the strategic importance of the axis being the major gateway to the State.

The expansion projects at Berger include the construction of about 700 meters slip road through which traffic outward Lagos-Ibadan Expressway can connect Omole Phase Two, Magodo Phase One and Olowoora.

The road, which was designed with drainage channels, side walks and street light, is about 6 meters wide and can conveniently accommodate two vehicles at a time.

Apart from the Pedestrian Bridge which has been completed, there are also expanded lay-bys and reservation areas at both sides of the Berger Bus Stop to facilitate easy pulling off of commercial and private vehicles from the main expressway, while massive road improvement, construction of lay-by and reservation projects are equally on-going under the bridge.

Governor Ambode, accompanied by top officials of the State Government, also ordered the construction of iron barricade under the newly completed Pedestrian Bridge to compel usage so as to achieve its main purpose of saving lives and facilitating free flow of traffic.

While briefing Governor Ambode on the work done so far on the Berger projects, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ganiyu Johnson said the projects, upon completion, will not only give Berger a new befitting look, but also ensure permanent removal of gridlock hitherto associated with the area.

"The idea is that we should have a reservation area for our commercial buses and also a reservation area on top. In the phase one of it, we have on both sides about 200 meters of reservation area. For instance, vehicles coming from upland and wanting to discharge passengers have been accommodated as we have cleared the road further down and we have about three to four base underneath the bridge.
"We have also improved Wakati Adura, Ijaye Road and Isheri Road in such a way that there will not be any traffic gridlock anymore by the time we complete this project and there will be a free flow of traffic around the whole place. We are also moving the Roundabout at PWC forward a little bit to Wakati Adura area and channelise the place just to improve traffic flow," Johnson said. The Governor also inspected the newly completed lay-by at Car Wash Bus Stop in Oworonsoki which made it a total of four modern lay-bys constructed in Oworonsoki axis by the Ambode administration.
Besides, Governor Ambode inspected the on-going construction of 1.65km slip road from Olopomeji in Oworonsoki to Ifako with under pass through which vehicles can make U-turn back to either Lagos Island or Oshodi through Gbagada and so on.

Delta state at 25: James Ibori writes on his stewardship as state governor

Former Delta state governor, James Ibori, who is presently in jail in the UK for defrauding his state while he was governor, wrote this article as the state celebrates its 25 years of existence. Read the article below

Let me begin by paying tribute to my predecessors in office who piloted the affairs of the state before the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP)administration was inaugurated on May 29, 1999.

From Air Commodore Luke Chijiuba Ochulor (rtd) who was the pioneer Administrator on creation in 1991 to the first elected Governor, Olorogun Felix Ibru, after the demise of the civilian administration, Abdulkadir Shehu, Bassey Asuquo, Ibrahim Kefas, John Dungs and to Walter Feghabo who supervised the conduct of the election in 1999, and eventually handed over to me as Governor.
I want to say without fear of contradiction that Delta in its 25 years of existence has been a success story. It is indisputable that the state has overcome some very challenging times.
The Warri crisis was my administration’s first challenge. At the inauguration of the PDP administration on May 1999, Warri and its environs were boiling. There was a full-blown attack on Escravos on May 30, which spilled over to the surrounding villages and eventually reached the Warri metropolis.
The level of destruction was such that it shocked the entire country and dampened the joy of the transition to democracy.
Its genesis can be traced to 1997 when the Federal Government of the late Gen Sani Abacha created a number of Local Government Areas including Warri South-West LGA, with headquarters in Ogbe-Ijoh, – an Ijaw town between Aladja and Warri Metropolis.
With the relocation of the headquarters of this LGA, from Ogbe-Ijohto Ogidigben, an Itsekiri town, on the Atlantic coast, riots followed and hundreds of people died. Six Shell Nigeria (SPDC) installations were taken over by protesting Ijaw youths, leading to a drop in oil production.
As head of the PDP administration at the time, I knew I had to act swiftly to stem the destruction of life and property. I then summoned a meeting of the major ethnic groups in Warri at the Government House, Asaba.
I recall vividly that the meeting stalemated, as the leaders disagreed on almost every issue. I then directed that the leaders of the delegations be taken to a room in one of the VIP Guest Houses and left there until they reached an agreement.
One of the leaders said to me, “Governor, we will not speak to each other even if we stay there for days”. In response, I then said that was exactly my objective.
On reflection today, our modest efforts have been blessed with some level of peace and understanding. As if the ethnic discord was not enough, Asaba’s position as the state capital threw up a different challenge of its own.
During my campaign to be Governor of the state, it was clear to me that some leaders from the Delta South and Central Senatorial Districts were deeply unhappy with Asaba as the capital. Conversely, leaders from Delta North Senatorial District were very emphatic on the status of Asaba as state capital, and they impressed on me to respect it if I became Governor. I assured them that I would always sleep in Asaba as long as duty did not take me out of the capital. This was my way of committing to the status of Asaba as capital.
Now, I look back with pride. Asaba is a capital city that everyone can be proud of. The PDP administration also set out to avoid the mistake of other states where only the capital was developed.
So we made sure that Delta did not become a one city state. Apart from Asaba and Warri, we identified another tier of development to include Agbor, Ughelli, Sapele, Oleh, Oghara, Abraka, Ogwashi-Uku, Burutu and Ozoro.
My prayer is for this dream to endure. Deltans will benefit from a multiplicity of urban centres with well-developed infrastructures. On the political level, I agonized over how to banish the feeling of second class citizenship of some sections of the state.
Many, who felt left out in the political arrangement, especially, the Ijaws of Warri, were brought into government at the local and state levels.
We held tenaciously to the PDP mantra of equity and justice. And this gave birth to the principle of power rotation.
The result is that for the first time in Nigeria’s history, a minority ethnic group, the Itsekiri, produced the governor of the state.
Most of all, I am pleased to note that today, all three Senatorial Zones have produced the governor of the state.
In 2007 the baton of leadership went to Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, an Itsekiri from Delta South Senatorial District and from him to Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, an Owa man from Delta North.
I thank God for their lives and their commitment to Delta State. And to all those who will come after them, I wish fair weather, smooth sailing, but most of all, I wish them inspired leadership as they pilot this most strategic state in Nigeria to greater heights.
The fourth issue that engaged our attention was true federalism and Resource Control. I embraced it for obvious reasons. We won some battles; more will surely come for the journey has just begun. Some of us are paying the price today for our perceived audacity.
Some other comrades in the course of the struggle have made the supreme sacrifice. May we never forget them. On a personal note, my greatest regret is that I’m not there with you to savour this special moment.
However, I must put on record on this historic day, my gratitude to the people of Delta State for the opportunity given me to serve as Governor from 1999 t0 2007.
And it is to the people that I have reserved my last and greatest tribute. I also say to them that the journey has not been without its challenges, but we have made much progress.
Congratulations on this your well-deserved celebration. I wish you and our dear state peace, unity, and prosperity in the years ahead.

Police invasion: Dickson Aide open up, says no money was found stolen

Government House Accountant in Bayelsa State, Ritchie Etonye, said he was not at home when a team of policemen numbering about 50 invaded his house on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, and therefore could not have absconded.
He also said that contrary to reports, no money was found in his house while, "it is not true that any money belonging to the governor was stolen."
Etonye in a clarification statement issued on Sunday night entitled: "Forceful Invasion of My Home - My Story", said he has instructed his lawyers to sue the Nigerian police and an online portal, Sahara Reporters for damages.
The statement reads:

"My name is Ritchie Etonye of Brass Road, Azibiogbolo, Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State. I am a hard working civil servant and currently work with the Governor of Bayelsa State as Government House Accountant.

"My house was invaded and ransacked on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 by a team of policemen numbering 50 and in the process, valuable property worth millions of naira were damaged.

"I was not in Bayelsa when the incident occurred. In fact I travelled out of the state with the governor on official assignment to Akure where my boss, Governor Dickson was the chairman of the PDP Committee that conducted the governorship primaries in Ondo State before leaving for Abuja for an official engagement.

"Contrary to reports in the media, it is not true that any money belonging to the governor was stolen and clearly I couldn’t have absconded because I was with the governor all the time.

"Upon inquiry on the reason for the invasion in my house, i found out that the police were acting on a false tip-off that I had stockpiled arms and cash in my residence. After several hours of the operation, the police did not find anything incriminating and they left thoroughly disappointed.

"Expectedly, as part of the plot to incite the unsuspecting public against the government and my principal, some disgruntled politicians have twisted and concocted their usual falsehood from the police invasion of his house as has been widely reported by Sahara Reporters, an online medium reputed for junk and irresponsible journalism.

"The invasion and online report have caused untold embarrassment to me and clearly it is intended to tarnish my hard-earned image as a reputable Chartered Accountant. I am not client a politician and should not be dragged to the arena of politics.

"Already, I have instructed my lawyers to sue the Nigerian police and Sahara Reporters for damages. For record purposes, I am a peace loving and law-abiding citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and would stop at nothing to clear my name."
