Don’t jeopardise Nigeria’s unity — Edwin Clark slams Mamman Daura over comment on zoning

Elder statesman and leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Edwin Clark has hit back at President Buhari's nephew, Mamman Daura over his comment on zoning.

Recall that Daura had said that competence should be prioritised in political offices rather than zoning.

Clark however fired back at Buhari's nephew over the comment while appearing on an interview on AIT. He stated that Daura shouldn't have a say in matters such as zoning because he doesn't have much experience in politics.

The elder statesman added that any move to reject zoning will jeopardise Nigeria's unity. He said;

“I’m not surprised at the principle statement by Mamman Daura. He has no political background; he hasn’t held any office in this country; he doesn’t belong to any political party, so he has not got any political experience.

“The main fact that he is permanently a resident in Aso Rock as adviser to his uncle is not enough for him to make irresponsible statement that could jeopardise the unity of this country.

“To jettison zoning is looking for chaotic situation in this country and there will be no one Nigeria, united Nigeria because no one will be a slave to the others.

“I met him (Daura) for the first time in my life, now he has a privilege of residing permanently in Aso Rock, being the leader of the cabal, being the man who is advising. What is he advising?

“No one prevents him from being a nephew to his uncle, Muhammadu Buhari, from advising him on family matters. He has no right to stay permanently without any official appointment in Aso Rock and thereby having the privilege of enjoying the government activities.

“Now he doesn’t want rotation to continue. Let me say this: nobody is a fool; who’s fooling who in this country?

“Every region in this country has people with reputation, capable, intelligent and are today wasting away because some people what to be the overlord of this country.

“So, if we want to have a united Nigeria and practise true democracy, there must be a rotation of the presidency between the north and south.

“Who are they now to say that they are rejecting rotation in the favour of competence? Are they more competent than any other Nigerian in one place?

“The solution is that when Buhari leaves, let the rotation go to the south as recommended by the national conference. We must have a united Nigeria based on equality, otherwise there will be no Nigeria.”

Policeman raped me till dawn for not wearing face mask, widow alleges

A human rights activist, Prince Wiro, has charged the Rivers State Police Command to investigate and prosecute its operatives accused of arresting and raping a widow over alleged breach of COVID-19 protocols.

The 32-year-old widow alleged that policemen attached to the Sakpenwa Police Division, Tai Local Government Area, arrested her on Tuesday, July 28, for not wearing a face mask, then took her to a guest house where one of them raped her at gunpoint.

She narrated: "I was returning from Bori to Port Harcourt when I met some police officers at a checkpoint. They arrested me for not wearing nose mask. They kept me long there with them.

"Thereafter they carried me from one place to the other, claiming they want to take me to the police station but never took me to any police station.

"After some time, they took me to a guest house where one of them raped me till dawn. His name is Inspector Peter Iba of Sakpenwa Police Station."

Reacting to the development, Wiro, charged the police command to "open immediate investigation into the alleged rape of this woman by a serving officer."

He said: "There is no justification for the punishment of rape to be meted out to a woman because she flouted Rivers State Government order on use of nose masks. I expect the police to take this matter serious.

"You know there’s a recent order from the Inspector General of Police charging every Command to do everything possible to make rape a thing of the past in the society."

During her arrest, the victim had raised alarm in a text message posted on a WhatsApp media platform.

She said in the text message: "I have been taken to a guest house just because of N100 face mask. I can’t believe this is happening to me. He wants to sleep with me. I am dying. He wouldn’t let me pick any call. He threatened to seize my phone."

The Police Command in the state reacting to the allegation through the Police Public Relations Officer, Rivers Command, Nnamdi Omoni, said: "After hearing about this, we immediately invited the lady. After hearing from her, she made a written statement and Investigation has commenced."

he added: "The matter is receiving adequate attention.

"The lady has just made her statement and efforts are on to unveil the identities of the officers alleged to have involved in the act for necessary action."

Zimbabwe offers £2.7 billion compensation to 4,500 white farmers whose land was seized by Robert Mugabe

The Zimbabwean government has signed an agreement with the country’s dispossessed commercial white farmers to compensate them with US$3.5 billion after their land was seized under Robert Mugabe's regime.

Over 20 years ago, Robert Mugabe forcibly took more than 4,000 farms from the country's 4,500 white large-scale commercial farmers. He justified the land grabs as a payback to correct historical wrongs, claiming they were forcibly taken from the nation's blacks.

Zimbabwe’s Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mthuli Ncube officially signed the compensation agreement with former commercial farmers on Wednesday, July 29.

'In the agreement, we have given ourselves 12 months to run around the world, around Zimbabwe to think of ways of raising this funding,' Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube said at the signing ceremony in Harare.

'We are determined that we achieve that. It's also about pledges not necessarily about cash being put on the table. It's about commitment.'

Mugabe's successor Emmerson Mnangagwa said the Wednesday deal was 'historic in many respects'.

'It brings closure and a new beginning in the history of the land discourse in Zimbabwe,' Mnangagwa said.

'The process which has brought us to this event is equally historic as it is a reaffirmation of the irreversibility of land as well as a symbol of our commitment to constitutionalism, the respect of the rule of law and property rights,' he said.

According to the report, the cash-strapped government set up a committee made up of farmers and donors to raise the money as they do not have the funds to make the payouts.

Tips on How to Become an Influencer

It seems influencers are ruling the world these days. Everywhere you look, be it in any field of business, it is the people with the maximum number of followers who are making the most amount of money. The funny thing about becoming an influencer is that unlike most other businesses, it takes very little investment. At least, in terms of money, but you will have to give it all the time you’ve got.

Since influencers are so popular, more people nowadays dream of becoming one. To do that, you have to think of a niche that suits you best. Moreover, you also need to lose all your inhibitions. Part of being an influencer is continuously being in the eye of the public. As a result, unless you have a thick skin and can take compliments and criticism in equal amounts, you won’t last long. Once mentally prepared to take on the challenge, it is time to get down to a strategy that will help you become an influencer as fast as possible.
Be Visual

Our content nowadays is such that you have to be visual to stand out. Whether it is posting photos on Instagram or making videos for TikTok, the more you interact with your audience, the better the chance of influencing them. Moreover, since there are so many people trying to do the same thing, it is equally essential that the quality of your product is the best. Merely posting photos will not get you social media followers. You need to make sure that these photos or video content is unique and stands out, for it to get noticed.

Make a Video

Okay, so we are not talking about that kind of a video, although it would undoubtedly put you in the limelight really fast. Since most people like to keep our personal lives, private, the other option is to make entertaining videos that everyone enjoys watching. As a content creator and future influencer, one place to start is by watching some of the viral videos already uploaded on channels like YouTube. People particularly like animal videos, funny accidents, and ingenious chain reaction machines that you can then replicate in your own way. Remember, all it takes for you to become famous is one video, so keep trying different things and see how your audience reacts to them.
Be Controversial

Not easy for everyone, but several influencers became famous because they were controversial. However, this is a double-edged sword, and it can very easily backfire as well. So, if you plan to create a controversy by joining a hot topic of debate, make sure you do that for the right reason and can back it up. Moreover, controversy is useful when you are new and don’t have a huge follower base. It isn’t always the best tactic when you are already an influencer as it can make you unpopular amongst your present audience.
Start A Blog

To become an influencer by starting a blog takes a long time, but it is more rewarding. There are many travel and fashion bloggers in the world right now who get to go to places, stay in the top hotels and make money from it. However, all of them have had to slog it out to reach that point in their career. If you are passionate about something, and becoming an influencer is not a priority, blogging is the way to go.

MacKenzie Scott has donated $1.7 billion since divorcing Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos

American Novelist and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, whose ex-husband is Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, has donated $1.7 billion of her wealth to charity over the past year after pledging to give most of it away during her lifetime.

According to Bloomberg Billionaire's Index, Scott who received a quarter of Bezos' Amazon shares in the couple's divorce currently has an estimated worth of more than $62 billion. She is the second-richest woman in the world.

On Tuesday, July 28 Scott provided an update on her charitable donations in a Medium blog post and also announced that she has changed her last name to the middle name following her divorce from the Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos last year.

“Last year I pledged to give the majority of my wealth back to the society that helped generate it,” Scott wrote, referring to her 2019 signing of the Giving Pledge, the campaign organized by Bill Gates and Warren Buffet in 2010, in which the world’s wealthiest people vow to donate more than half their fortune to charities or philanthropic causes over their lifetime.

“Like many, I watched the first half of 2020 with a mixture of heartbreak and horror,” she said. “Life will never stop finding fresh ways to expose inequities in our systems; or waking us up to the fact that a civilization this imbalanced is not only unjust, but also unstable. What fills me with hope is the thought of what will come if each of us reflects on what we can offer.”

Here’s how Scott broke down her giving:

Racial equity: $586,700,000

LGBTQ+ equity: $46,000,000

Gender equity: $133,000,000

Economic mobility: $399,500,000

Empathy & bridging divides: $55,000,000

Functional democracy: $72,000,000

Public health: $128,300,000

Global development: $130,000,000

Climate change: $125,000,000

“On this list, 91% of the racial equity organizations are run by leaders of color, 100% of the LGBTQ+ equity organizations are run by LGBTQ+ leaders, and 83% of the gender equity organizations are run by women, bringing lived experience to solutions for imbalanced social systems,” Scott said.

“The organizations ... offer a daily reminder that we can each carry more than we imagine. And they offer an opportunity to invest our good fortune in change, no matter what form our good fortune has taken.”

Her ex-husband, Jeff Bezos is the world’s wealthiest individual with an estimated worth of about $178 billion.

Two men bag two years imprisonment for producing and distributing fake engine oil (photo)

Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo of the Federal High Court in Lagos has convicted two men, Uche Johnson and Kingsley Meteke, for producing and distributing substandard engine oil.

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) charged both men with four counts of production, possession, dealing in, and distribution of substandard engine oil. Both men claimed the products were good for public consumption and for optimum engine performance and sold them to unsuspecting buyers. SON said the products failed the Standards Organisation of Nigeria’s (SON) Conformity Assessment Programme (SONCAP).

According to the prosecution, the offense contravened the provisions of sections 1(8) and 1(8)(II) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, 2004.

Both men initially pleaded not guilty to the charges, but later changed their plea to guilty.

Delivering judgment, the judge said their sentence will begin from January 27, 2019, when the defendants were arrested.

Speaking on the court ruling, the prosecuting counsel Joseph Olofindare said this will serve as a deterrent to manufacturers and importers of substandard products.

“I want to tell genuine manufacturers and consumers that they should not be despondent. SON is there to prosecute any offender. It’s a judgment that will send a message to the public that SON is working tirelessly under the leadership of Osita Aboloma.

If you’re an importer or manufacturer, you either bring products that are certified under Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) and SONCAP, otherwise the fate that befell these individuals will also befall those who are indulging in product adulteration.

For our consumers, the Director General and management are working tirelessly to ensure that consumers get value for their money and that only standard and certified products are in the market.”Olofindare said

Insecurity has made Nigeria uninhabitable and unattractive to investors - Gbajabiamila

The speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has stated that the insecurity witnessed in the country has made Nigeria uninhabitable for citizens and unattractive to investors.

Gbajabiamila said this during a public presentation of the updated legislative agenda of the house of representatives tagged ‘our contract with Nigerians’.

The speaker who also noted that the education system is producing graduates who cannot compete in the 21st-century knowledge economy, added that the updated legislative agenda highlights new strategies with which the house plans to help Nigerians deal with the new realities imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said;

“Before now, the extent of our difficulties was well known to us. We have population growth that far outpaces the rate of economic growth. Insecurity has made vast swathes of our country uninhabitable for citizens and unattractive to investment.

“We are at war, fighting insurgents in the North-east who want to remake our world in the image of a medieval theocracy. Our education system is producing graduates who cannot compete in the 21st-century knowledge economy.

“This updated legislative agenda and the implementation plan which we have tagged ‘our contract with Nigerians’ sets out the new priorities of this 9th house of representatives and commits us to a plan of action over the next year, and for the rest of our tenure.

“We have called this document a contract because that is what it is; a written account of what we owe the people and how we intend to meet our obligations within the shortest possible time.

“These documents represent our intention to be held accountable based on what we have freely committed to achieving, and which I am confident we will realize to the glory of God and the edification of our people.

“Our gathering here today is first to present this document to the public. More importantly, this gathering is intended as a convenient space for us to have frank conversations about how we will go about achieving the objectives we have set out in ‘Our Contract with Nigerians’. This is an opportunity to empower ourselves with the confidence to dare and the skills to deliver.

“I encourage all of us to use the time here today to learn from the speakers and each other, exchange ideas and develop individual roadmap that would guide our interactions as we work together to deliver a House of Representatives that meets the highest expectations of its citizens.”

One-year rent agreements will get 0.78% stamp duty - FIRS

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has made a clarification on its plan to impose a stamp duty charge on tenancy.

FIRS executive chairman, Muhammad Nami who spoke at a webinar organised by OTISVIP, said the six percent stamp duty charge on tenancy previously announced will only apply to tenancy and lease agreements that are above 21 years.

According to him, tenancy and lease agreements less than seven years would carry 0.78 percent stamp duty while agreements between seven and 21 years will carry a three percent charge.

Nami urged Nigerians to accept the fact that the country can no longer rely solely on crude revenue to fund the budget, hence the need to embrace taxation as the new normal of national fiscal policy.

A statement released by Abdullahi Ismaila Ahmad, director of FIRS communications and liaison department partly read;

“While all panellists agreed on the need for taxation to complement government’s revenue flow from natural resources, a lively debate ensued on the timing of the stamp duty campaign and the public debate surrounding the application of tax revenue in the nation-building processes, especially in building public infrastructure.

“The panellists stressed the need for prudent management of tax revenue even as they enjoined Nigerians to embrace the fact that the tax net needs to get wider to accommodate more citizens for holistic national development.”

In this period everyone is a suspect not minding what your illness is - Ubi Franklin shares his experience of visiting the hospital amid the Coronavirus pandemic

Music executive, Ubi Franklin has shared his experience of visiting the hospital amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

According to him, he decided to visit the hospital after the food he ate left him stooling and weak. He was however told to wait outside until his result was out.

Ubi Franklin who said he had to go back home, added in this period everyone is a suspect not minding what your illness is.

He tweeted;

Yesterday I had, Breakfast - Cereal with sugar and milk

Lunch - Nice Affang

Dinner - Porridge beans and yam.

They clashed and I have used the toiled from yesterday for more than 40 Times. This afternoon I became so weak and decided to be driven to the hospital and when I got there I was kept outside the gate of the hospital for my vitals, and I became more weak and restless, you can imagine the sun and the doctor came outside to tell me I’ll wait for my test results to come while waiting outside.

I couldn’t sit down because my ass was aching from the many Times I have had to visit the toilet. I decided to leave and go home and not even bother about going back to the hospital. In this trying Covid-19 period everyone is a suspect not minding what your illness is that’s totally different from sythoms of Covid-19.

I am home hoping I get better. I cried because this is currently going on in different parts of Nigeria, hospitals are rejecting patients who clearly don’t have COVID-19. Before this entire world pandemic you can walk into the hospital and get a bed, your Vitals taken and test comes out and treatment begins, but now it’s a different story . Everyone is treated like a COVID patient. I have taken Imodium hoping it works.

I’ll just stay home trusting my stomach behaves after much stooling from last night till this moment, this moment I mean I am typing from the toilet.

President Buhari is happy about Victor Osimhen’s move to Napoli - Nigeria’s Deputy Ambassador to Italy, Franklin Ogunyemi says

Nigeria’s Deputy Ambassador to Italy, Franklin Ogunyemi, has disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari is pleased and happy with Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen's decision to join Italian club, Napoli.

The 21-year-old who scored 18 goals in all competitions for French club Lille, is on the verge of sealing a major move to the Serie A side in the most expensive transfer deal of the summer so far.

It has already been confirmed that Napoli have agreed an initial €60m fee with Lille to sign Victor Osimhen in a five-year contract. It is also understood the fee could rise to €81m after a number of performance-related add-ons.

Speaking during a recent interview on Radio Kiss Kiss, a Naples based radio station, Ogunyemi also said the entire diplomatic staff in the country are delighted with the move by the 21-year-old forward.

According to him, “The entire Nigerian diplomatic mission, headed by Ambassador Yusuf Jonga Hinna, is very happy with Victor Osimhen’s transfer to Naples.

Minister of Communications, Isa Pantami, calls out NIPOST on twitter for increasing its licensing fees without his approval

Nigeria's Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, has called out the leadership of the Nigerian Postal Service, NIPOST, for increasing its fees without his approval.

Nigerians took to Twitter to complain about the recent increase in the licensing fees for courier companies. According to the new regulation, international courier services like DHL, UPS and FEDEX, are expected to pay N20m for a new licence and N8m annually, and those offering local services are expected to pay N10m for licence and N4m yearly for renewal.

In addition, logistics companies operating within regions are expected to pay N5m for licence and N2m annually, and firms operating within states would get a licence for N2m while renewal costs N800,000. Courier firms running within cities are to pay N1m for licence and N400,000 annually. Small and Medium Enterprises would be receiving a licence for N250,000 while the annual renewal of the licence is N100,000.

The new charges introduced by NIPOST are expected to cause an increase in the cost of courier services and delivery of goods.

Responding to the outcry on Twitter this morning July 25, Pantami who supervises activities of the postal service, said he wasn't aware of the increase and has directed the immediate suspension of the increase in fees.

Pls @NipostNgn, our attention has been drawn to an increase of licence fee, which was not part of the regulation I earlier APPROVED for you. Your Chair and PMG were YESTERDAY contacted to put the implementation on hold and send a report to our ministry by Monday. Best wishes!

@NipostNgn, d power of regulation of NIPOST lies with the Minister. Any change of fee must be specific & be approved by him before implementation. I know the economic challenges of NIPOST. However, looking at the economic hardship of our citizens, we need to suspend any move

The increase, is under investigation by my office, since yesterday. The Ministry and the Minister were not involved. Many thanks and best wishes! '' he tweeted

“In 2016, PDP took Obaseki to court that he forged certificates. Now, you remember one governor that said there are tax collectors, when something moved, they collected the taxes and the certificates became okay.

“But let me tell you, members of APC’s screening committee knew that the man who forged documents, even if you vote for him, you know what happened to us in Bayelsa state.

“So, I need to assure you that the decision of the screening committee members to disqualify the sitting governor was based on the evidence provided by PDP leaders in 2016, which they found to be correct and you do not repeat the same mistake twice.

“The only task we have is to go to every unit, every community, every ward, every local government area and remind them of where we stopped and ask them since we left, what new thing has been brought?

“If I failed Godwin Obaseki’s examination, by the grace of God on Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, I will score A1.”

'We deserved it' - Nigeria's Troost-Ekong ecstatic after helping Udinese defeat Juventus and avoid relegation

Super Eagles defender, William Troost-Ekong has expressed his joy after Udinese beat Juventus in Thursday night's Serie A clash.

After Matthijs de Ligt’s 42nd minute goal, Luca Gotti’s men won the match 2-1 thanks to goals from Ilija Nestorovski and Cote d’Ivoire international Seko Fofana.

Ekong, who played in midfield against Juventus says Juventus' desire to win the title made his club decide to frustrate them.

"I am very happy because of these three heavy points and also because before the game, no one would have bet on us,” Troost-Ekong told Udinese TV on Thursday night.

“They came here to celebrate and that charged us before the game. Today [on Thursday] we played with personality and we deserved to win.”

The 26 year old says he doesn't mind wherever he plays in the team.

“Well, I played in the middle for two years but after the lockdown, the manager wanted me to move to the right,” he continued.

“Obviously, he decides how we get on the field but I think as a defensive midfielder I can be more useful to the team.”

US court reveals why Hushpuppi was denied bail

A United States Court sitting in Illinois, Chicago has shared its reason for denying Ramon Abbas a.k.a Hushpuppi bail.

Recall that the Instagram celebrity who was arrested last month in Dubai for alleged wire fraud and extradited to the U.S on July 3, was accused of being part of a network that made “hundreds of millions of dollars” from business email compromise frauds and other scams.

The US court has now revealed it denied Hushpuppi bail and the opportunity to stay with his girlfriend's Uncle pending the conclusion of his trial.

Based on the recommendations of the Pretrial services which provides the court quality information about defendants, it was stated that Hushpuppi presents a risk of non appearance and should be removed to the charging district in California in custody.

Premium Times reported that other factors include the fact that Mr Abbas is subject to lengthy period of incarceration if convicted, lacks significant community or family ties to the district, lacks significant family or other ties outside the United States, lacks legal status in the country and will be subjected to removal or deportation for serving any period of incarceration.

If the allegations turns out true, it was further stated that Huspuppi who has ties with many foreign countries has sufficient assets to fund flight to anywhere in the world.

The statement partly read;

“Abbas reportedly rents an apartment in Dubai for $10.000 a month and drives a Bentley. He is alleged to have committed financial crimes that netted tens of millions of dollars or more.

"For these reasons and those stated on the record, Mr Abbas shall be removed to the charging district in the custody of the US Marshal."

Hushpuppi risks spending 20 years in prison if convicted.

China orders US consulate in Chengdu to cease operations in retaliation for Houston closure

China has ordered the closure of the United States consulate in Chengdu, China, days after the US announced the forced closure of the Chinese consulate in Houston, Texas.

Relations between the US and China is at an all time low as both nations squabble over the Covid-19 pandemic, trade, treatment of muslims and racial minorities in Xianjing, security law in Hong Kong and US ties with Taiwan.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday July 24, said US diplomats in China had been notified Friday morning that Beijing was revoking the license for the Chengdu consulate in China's southwest, which has been ordered to "stop all business and activities."

The statement adds that the US had "unilaterally provoked the incident" by ordering the closure of the Houston office, an action Beijing said "seriously violated international law and the basic norms of international relations."

"The current situation between China and the United States is something China does not want to see, and the responsibility rests entirely with the United States," the foreign ministry said.

"We once again urge the US to immediately revoke the erroneous decision to create necessary conditions for the return of bilateral relations to normal."

On Twitter, Hua Chunying, a spokeswoman for the foreign ministry, said the order was "a legitimate and necessary response to the unilateral provocative move by the US to demand the closure of China's Consulate General in Houston."

Chengdu, the capital of China's southwest Sichuan province, is an important diplomatic outpost for the US, as it covers a large portion of China.

I didn’t say Lawmakers got 60 percent of NDDC contracts – Akpabio tells House of Reps members

Senator Godswill Akpabio, the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, has denied saying most of the NDDC contracts were awarded to members of the National Assembly.

In a letter read by Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the house of representatives, on Thursday, Akpabio said the house panel probing the alleged mismanagement of N81.5 billion in the commission did not give him the opportunity to clarify his statement.

Recall that on Monday, July 20, Akpabio appeared before the House of Representatives panel investigating allegations of financial recklessness in the NDDC. During his presentation, he alleged that most of the contracts of the NDDC were awarded to National Assembly members.

Akpabio's letter denying the statement was read on the floor of the House after the Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, announced that the House would be filing a lawsuit against the Minister after he failed to release the names of the Lawmakers he claimed have been awarded NDDC contracts.

In his letter, the former Akwa Ibom governor said the only reference he made to 60 percent during his presentation before the NDDC committee on Monday was in response to a question by a member of the committee. According to him, a member of the House panel had asked him whether a Medical Director can serve as an Executive Director Project, to which he responded by saying that since 50 to 60 percent of NDDC contracts were medical-related, there was nothing wrong in a Medical Director serving in that capacity.

He accused Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, chairman of the committee on NDDC in the House of Representatives and Peter Nwaoboshi, his counterpart in the senate, of misconduct.

His letter reads

“I hereby respond as follows, the investigating committee refused or neglected to give me the opportunity to explain the reference to ‘most NDDC contracts awarded since 2001 from the records allegedly to members of the national assembly was done without the knowledge of the alleged beneficiaries’. However, the two chairmen of the committees in both chambers have adequate knowledge,” Akpabio said.

I never referred to members of the ninth national assembly as beneficiaries of NDDC contracts as NDDC is yet to fully implement any NDDC budget since the commencement of the ninth national assembly. In fact, the 2019 budget passed in February and harmonised on 5th of March 2020 was received by the commission in the middle of April 2020 when the same was designated to expire on 31st May 2020.

However, it is pertinent to point out that the clerk forwarded a letter dated 20th of March without attaching the budget details, this anomaly was brought to the attention of the senate investigating purported financial recklessness by the management of the commission in July 2020.

It has always been known that the two chairmen of the committees on NDDC in both exhibit unusual influence to the exclusion of committee members and even the management of the NDDC appropriate funds projects after passing of line items at plenary.

May I assure you Mr Speaker that as a former minority leader in the eight senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I shall forever promote the ideals of the national assembly as an institution, hence I will not make the attached documents public since I obtained the documents from the lead forensic auditors in confidence.

Permit me to explain that any reference to 50 or 60 percent during the investigative hearing was an answer to a question by a member of a committee as to whether or not a medical director could act as a director projects within the confines if the NDDC act 2000, I answered n the affirmative pointing out that the greatest project in the world is COVID-19 pandemic which is medical in nature.

I am made to understand that 50 to 60 percent yearly budgets are medical in nature. Therefore it is fitting for a medical doctor to act as executive director projects in those trying times.

“Please accept Sir, the assurance of my esteem regards and do pass my explanation to my colleagues in the ninth assembly who probably misunderstood my assertion.”

After reading the letter, the speaker did not say whether the house will still sue the minister.

New York City FC investigating sexual harassment allegations leveled by former intern against ex-player David Villa

New York City football club has confirmed that the club is investigating allegations of sexual harassment levelled at their former player, David Villa.

Villa played for NYCFC between 2014 and 2018, with him being the club's first signing. During his career he played at Valencia, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona while earning 98 caps and scoring 59 goals for the Spanish national team.

Villa scored 80 goals in 126 appearances during his time in MLS, earning recognition in 2016 as the league's Most Valuable Player.

The sexual allegations surfaced on Twitter after the Washington Post made a damning report revealing a series of sexual harassment claims that happened at the front office of Washington’s NFL team.

After seeing the report, a former NYCFC intern tweeted that she had been a victim of sexual harrasment during her time at the club, saying that former Barcelona star David Villa repeatedly harassed her while she worked at the club.

According to her she "rarely went a day" without Villa “grabbing” her or "verbally harassing" her.

According to the intern, her superiors at NYCFC thought her allegations were "great comedic material" while adding that she was repeatedly "groped", "mocked" and "shoved".

NYCFC has now reacted to the allegations, saying that the club is investigating the matter

"New York City Football Club has learned of the allegations made by a former intern by seeing them on social media," a club spokesperson said in a statement to Goal.com

"We take this matter extremely seriously and do not tolerate harassment of any kind in any areas of our organization. We immediately launched an investigation into the matter."

Villa speaking to ESPN, denied the allegations: "I strongly object to the accusations made about me on Twitter. These accusations are entirely false and I deny them."
