N5.8bn NEMA Scam: Osinbajo has questions to answer - House of Representatives insists

N5.8bn NEMA Scam: Osinbajo?has questions to answer -?House of Representatives insists

The House of Representatives has insisted that Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo must answer questions over the “illegal approval and disbursement of the N5.8 billion” to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

Chairman of the House Committee on NEMA, Ali Isa (PDP, Gombe) disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing newsmen at the House of Representatives in Abuja.

Isa, who stated that the briefing had become necessary given the twists that trailed the recent adoption of the Committee’s report by the House, also maintained that the investigation was transparent, and devoid of any political undertone.

“There have been many issues about our investigation and the adoption of the reports by the House of Representatives, which need to be clarified.

There was the issue of illegal approval of N5.8 billion for NEMA in June 2017 by the Vice President, then the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo. I want to say that the approval by the Vice President for the release of N5.8 billion from the Consolidated Revenue Fund and Eurobond was in itself illegal.

The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, approved the money in his capacity as the Acting President and Chairman, NEMA Governing Board, without the knowledge of the National Assembly.

This is a breach of due process. Mind you, there is no record anywhere that this money was used for anything. No contract was awarded, no procurement, nothing. That is why the Vice President has questions to answer,” the lawmaker remarked.

He, however, challenged the office of the Vice President to furnish the Committee or the House of Representatives with any contrary documents related with the disbursement of the funds and the attendant procurements, if any.

Armed robber mistakenly shoots gang member while escaping after an operation in Bayelsa State

Luck ran out on a member of an armed robbery gang as residents of Amarata suburb of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, mobbed him to death after dispossesing customers of a popular supermarket of their valuables.

The dead member of the robbery gang, identified as the driver of the getaway tricyle popularly known as 'Keke NAPEP', was accidentally shot in the back by one of his colleagues, who was aiming at the mob chasing them.

According to reports, at about 9pm on Monday, the four-man robbery gang arrived at the popular supermarket located along the Imgbi road, and raided the few customers present by collecting mobile phones and cash realised from sales for the day. However, things went south for the robbers, when some youth seated across the supermarket noticed their attempt to escape.

It was gathered that despite the gunshots fired by the fleeing robbers, the angry mob chased after them with bottles and this caused the fleeing tricycle to collide with a stationary car along the street.

"In the process of colliding with the car, the tricycle somersaulted and we heard another gunshot. Later, we discovered that one of the robbers loaded guns went off and hit the tricycle driver on the back.

Three of the robbers escaped, while the tricycle driver attempted to escape with gunshot wound but was chased to the back of First Bank in the area and he was handed over to the Police" an eyewitness said.

Parkinson Ekide, Chairman of the Bayelsa State Vigilante service, and the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Asinim Butswat both confirmed the incident.

Monica Lewinsky breaks down in tears and reveals she was suicidal when FBI told her she will be a Clinton informant

For the first time, Monica Lewinsky has spoken in detail about her affair with then President Bill Clinton which lasted 2 years.

Monica, who was a White House intern at the time Clinton was president, is speaking about the fear she felt when she was told that she would have to cooperate with the FBI on their investigation of Bill Clinton, or face time in prison.

Speaking in a preview for the upcoming A&E docuseries The Clinton Affair, Monica said:

In order to cooperate and avoid charges and I would have to make monitored phone calls which they would listen in to and record and I might have to wear a wire and go see people in person.

Lewinsky said she was so overwhelmed by this that she began to think of committing suicide a few hours later. She broke down in tears as she recalled this period of her life.

She said in the interview:

The ground completely crumbled in that moment. I felt so much guilt. And I felt terrified.

An FBI agent involved in the case acknowledged this, saying that Lewinsky was "alternating between being hysterical, being angry, being abusive."

Lewinsky admits that she was not cooperative at the time, believing she had to protect Clinton.

She said:

They imagined that I would have flipped really easily. They had no plan in place for what would happen if i said no.

She added:

There was a point for me somewhere within these first several hours where I would be hysterically crying and then I would just shut down.

And in the shut down period I just remember looking out the window and thinking the only way to fix this is to kill myself.

Monica broke down at this point in the interview, saying:

I just felt terrible ... and I was scared ... and I was mortified.

Monica's encounter with the FBI and the aftermath played out at the Ritz Carlton in January 1998, with the Office of the Independent Counsel getting Linda Tripp to set up a meeting with Monica. She was then taken to a room and held by prosecutors until that night.

Lewinsky admits that the thing that made this so difficult for her was the fact that she was still in love with Clinton.

Ahead of the show's premiere, Lewinsky opened up about the affair in an essay for Vanity Fair. In it, she spoke of her disappointment that Bill does not think he should apologize to her as well as her desire to tell Hillary she is sorry.

Lewinsky wrote in the essay:

The process of this docuseries led me to new rooms of shame that I still needed to explore, and delivered me to Grief’s doorstep.

She then lists off the examples of grief, including:

Grief for a relationship that had no normal closure, and instead was slowly dismantled by two decades of Bill Clinton's behavior that eventually (eventually!) helped me understand how, at 22, I took the small, narrow sliver of the man I knew and mistook it for the whole.

Monica spoke about her disappointment with Bill over the comments he made back in June when asked if he owed her a personal apology, and her disbelief that it took so long for someone to even ask that question.

Bill Clinton, when asked by Craig Melvin in a June interview if he owed Monica an apology, replied:

No. I do not – I have never talked to her. But I did say publicly on more than one occasion that I was sorry.

In response to that Lewinsky writes:

So, what feels more important to me than whether I am owed or deserving of a personal apology is my belief that Bill Clinton should want to apologize. I’m less in disappointed him, and more disappointed for him.

She then adds:

He would be a better man for it . . . and we, in turn, a better society.

Monica admits she owes certain people an apology for the affair with Bill Clinton, writing:

My first public words after the scandal—uttered in an interview with Barbara Walters on March 3, 1999—were an apology directly to Chelsea and Mrs. Clinton.

And if I were to see Hillary in person today, I know that I would summon up whatever force I needed to again acknowledge to her—sincerely—how very sorry I am.

At the time the affair began between the president and his intern in November 1995, Clinton was 49 years old and Lewinsky was a 22-year-old White House employee.

Clinton initially denied having sexual relations with Lewinsky in a sworn deposition back in January of 1998, going so far as to claim that the two were never even alone together in the White House.

But, unknown to Clinton, Monica Lewinsky had already revealed to Linda Tripp that the two were together nine times between that first encounter and March of 1997, and engaged in oral sex multiple times.

The affair became public one day after Clinton's sworn testimony, at which point Tripp gave tapes of Lewinsky admitting to her relationship to Kenneth Star, who at the time was pursuing the Whitewater controversy and Clinton's alleged sexual harassment of Paula Jones, a former Arkansas state employee.

Clinton continued to deny reports that he had relations with Monica Lewinsky even after the report broke and famously said in a nationally televised White House news conference:

I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky.

Months later, he admitted to the affair and claimed that his definition of sexual relations differed from that of others.

Linda Tripp had worked in the Pentagon alongside Monica Lewinsky when the former White House intern opened up to her about her affair with Bill Clinton. Tripp taped their conversations for months it was later revealed and then handed the recordings over to Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr to avoid facing wiretapping charges.

"I'm tired of eating human flesh" - Cannibal says as he walks into police station with human leg

A cannibal who walked in a police station holding a human leg told cops, "I’m tired of eating human flesh", a court heard yesterday.

Nino Mbatha, 33, is said to have handed in part of a human leg and a hand to police at the station. This development led to an investigation that uncovered more remains in a nearby house.

Officers were then led to a woman’s mutilated body under some rocks in Estcourt, South Africa.

Mbatha, Lungisani Magubane, 31, and Khayelihle Lamula, 33, have been charged with the murder of 24-year-old mum Zanele Hlatshwayo.

Mbatha, who is also said to be a traditional healer, has also been charged with "handling human tissue".

Prosecutors say Magubane and Lamula went to Mbatha for a good luck charm and he told them the ancestors insisted that blood needed to be spilled.

Lamula then found Zanele drunk and she agreed to get into his car, unaware that he planned to use her for rituals. The Pietermaritzburg High Court heard that Lamula then picked up Magubane and Mbatha and drove them all to a secluded spot where Mbatha killed the mum and ate parts of her body.

All three suspects have pleaded not guilty to all counts.

The woman’s body was found in August 2017 after one of the suspects reportedly led community members and police to where it was hidden. Police spokeswoman Colonel Thembeka Mbheke said the suspects were arrested after Mbatha walked into the Estcourt station with the human leg.

She said:

When he was questioned, he produced part of a human leg and a hand. Further investigation led police to a house where they were met with a foul smell, and more human remains were found.

A second suspect was also arrested in Estcourt and a third in the Amangwe area. More body parts were found.

A fourth suspect Sithembiso Sithole, 31 was arrested and charged, but reportedly killed himself in jail awaiting trial.
