Photos: Lawyer left for dead after alleged brutal beating by 5 soldiers in Delta State

One Sunny Ekwe, a lawyer based in Ovorie Ethiope East LGA of Delta State was allegedly beaten by 5 soldiers who left him to die after they fractured his spinal cord.

According to Omemimoro Maxwell Ogedegbe, who posted the photos on Facebook, the incident happened on the evening of March 11th

"Two of them arrested and still in the military custody of the 222 battalion Agarho Utor, Ughelli, delta state. On the 11th of March 2017 at about 7pm this lawyer went to visit a relative at the Okpara waterside when suddenly as he was about to leave a young boy demanded he should follow him to meet some other boys seated in a distance that was a bit dark.

"In the process of resisting the boy, the boy called the other four guys who descended on the lawyer and subjected him to the most crudest humiliation and brutality ever and only abandoned him to die in a close dried up drain. Because of the atrocities of the boys in the area no body in the community could intervene as they are young soldiers. The lawyer was rushed to the hospital at Isiokolo but referred to Orerokpe after he was revived.

"The police of Isiokolo made first failed attempt at arresting the boys but they resisted and the police chickened out claiming as military officers they must be dealt with by their command. It took the intervention of my humble self and a serving magistrate to prevail on the DPO who mobilised about 20 mobile police personel to the community and luckily the boys were at the verge of moving to their station and only two were apprehended as three had left before police arrival .

"They were arrested and formally handed over to the commanding officer of the 222 battalion where they have been in custody till date. They are persons who just returned from 9months military training. We salute the reawaken dogged Ness of the DPO and the forthright Ness of the commanding officer who have sent for the return of the fleeing officer. Truly they have realised this is a democracy where pen is mightier than the sword."

Two months after winning the Australian Open, 35-year-old Roger Federer beat compatriot Stan Wawrinka 6-4 7-5 to become the oldest champion in the tournament's history, overtaking Jimmy Connors who was 31 when he won in 1984.

The Indian Wells is considered by many professionals to be the biggest tournament outside the majors and Federer said he had defied even his own expectations.

In his words,
'for me, the dream run continues. I'm not as surprised as I was in Australia, but still this comes as a big, big surprise to me, nevertheless, to win here again and beating the players that I did and the way I did. I couldn't be more happy. It's an absolutely huge start to the year for me. Last year I didn't win any titles. I don't think I was in any finals except Brisbane. The change is dramatic, and it feels great.'

NYPF boss sues for excellence amongst young people

The Chairman, Nigerian Young Professionals Forum, (NYPF), Moses SilokoSiasia has called on Nigerians to depart from the practice of honouring corrupt individuals and embrace the culture of celebrating men and women of repute, who have distinguished themselves in various fields of endeavour.

Siasia said this during a dinner he hosted to honour the Pioneer Global Chairperson Commonwealth Youth council, Dr Ahmed Adamu. While extolling the virtues of Dr Adamu, the NYPF Chairman said the Celebration is the organisation's way of saying "thank you" to Adamu for his selfless service as the Youth Council Global Chairperson at the Commonwealth.

He described him as someone who understands service to humanity, which he insisted remains the greatest work in life.He said "As an organisation, the Nigeria Young Professionals Forum looks at Young men and women of great character because our society is so porous with wicked and selfish people. But for the young people who have distinguished themselves, we always celebrate them. As a body, the NYPF always celebrate excellence" and it is our responsibility as young people to make a choice either to be victims and be defeated or be a victor and make history, he said.

"We live in a society where criminals are being celebrated every day. We are not part of that kind of generation. We celebrate only men and women who have added positive value to society and not corrupt individuals", the NYPF asserted.
He lauded Dr Adamu for his impeccable leadership record during the period he steered the ship of the Commonwealth Youth Council, saying such virtue is rear " in a generation where so many young persons have become terribly selfish"

Siasia said
“this gathering of professionals is to appreciate you for your selfless service while you, Dr. Ahmed Adamu served as the pioneer global chair of the Commonwealth Youth Council. You selflessly represented the collective interest of the over 1.2billion young people under your leadership with a lot of passion, integrity and credibility he concluded.
The NYPF Chairman also sued for unity among all tribes and religions in the country, stressing that the factors which bring Nigerians together should be focused on, rather than those which divide the nation.
"You can see someone from the South Southern part of the country and a Christian celebrating a Moslem from the North. That is what the country should be all about; What bring us together as a people is greater than those which tears us apart" he said.
While thanking the NYPF Chairman for the Special Dinner, Ahmed Adamu disclosed that the gesture was the first of its kind since he returned from his service at the Commonwealth.Adamu charged young Nigerians to aim at excellence in every field they find themselves, as that remains the only way they can contribute to nation building.

Kim Kardashian said she prepared herself to be raped and killed during Paris robbery

Reality star and mother-of-two, Kim Kardashian, is still revealing more details about her traumatic experience in the hands of the robbers who attacked her in Paris.

On Sunday night's episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, she revealed that the moment her attackers threw her on the bed, she already prepared her mind to be raped and killed by them and imagined that her sister, Kourtney, will come in to find her dead body.
She said:

"He grabs my legs, and I wasn’t, you know, I had no clothes on under. He pulled me toward him at the front of the bed and I thought, 'Okay, this is the moment they’re going to rape me,'"
"I fully mentally prepped myself – and then he didn’t. He duck taped my legs together and had the gun up to me. I knew that was the moment they’re just totally going to shoot me in the head. I just prayed that Kourtney’s going to have a normal life after she sees my dead body on the bed…like, I’m not going to make it out of here. I know how these things go."
Before the show aired, Kim took to her social media account to reveal that the particular episode was going to be very tough for her to watch.
"Tonight’s episode is going to be very tough for me. However, I thought it was important to share this story through my eyes & not in an interview where my own words could be twisted. I have always shared so much & I’m not going to hold back when this was probably one of the most life changing experiences for me," she wrote on Twitter.
Recounting the incident to her sister, Kourtney and Khloe, Kim said:
"I'm dozing and then I heard pounding up the stairs. I thought it was [Kourtney] and Stephanie drunk. I was calling to them like “Hello?” and there was no answer. And then at that moment when there wasn’t an answer my heart started to get really tense. My stomach knots up thinking “What’s going on?” I knew something wasn’t right."
17 people have been arrested in connection with the Paris armed robbery and 10 have been charged so far.
