? We know it's a move to win elections but signing landmark bills, announcing June 12 as democracy day, honouring Abiola and Gani... wehdun sir! This is much better than sharing rice or sponsoring thugs to kill people. Next: debate? That would bring issues to the fore. Do it ?— 'Gbénga Sèsan (@gbengasesan) June 6, 2018

Olusegun Obasanjo right now when he heard June 12 he so hated is now a National Holiday replacing his May 29 "Democracy Day" pic.twitter.com/rJWHHJ08CN— Kayode Ogundamisi (@ogundamisi) June 6, 2018

Wawwwuuuuu. @MBuhari masterstroke with the June 12 declaration as Democracy Day!

If the administration delivers the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and the Lagos-Ab??òkúta-Ibadan rail line before election next year, it will be harder for opposition to get southwest votes for President— Aláshelà (@AjalaYemi) June 6, 2018

Just wondering the kind of feelings going through the mind of the gap toothed General in Minna as June 12 is declared Democracy Day— Umar (@u_2_2) June 6, 2018

MKO Abiola, yes. Gani, yes. June 12 as Democracy Day, yes. Kingibe, NO. His ignominious role in burying June 12 is legendary. Undeserving.— The Great Oracle (@AbdulMahmud01) June 6, 2018

#ThisIsNigeria Where Democracy Day is celebrated twice in 2 weeks.— Keke El Official (@keke4success) June 6, 2018

Had GEJ declared June 12 as democracy day, they would have still opposed it...

What is wrong in renaming a "citadel of repute" after MKO? Please let's hear word.— Kingsley (@kingysly_01) June 6, 2018

Some might say this is politics and Buhari is trying to pacify the Yorubas. I honestly don’t care. June 12 should have been our Democracy Day all along. This move is fantastic and must be commended. Well done Buhari ??— Dr. Dipo Awojide (@OgbeniDipo) June 6, 2018

South West isn't a colony of ALMAJIRIS or woolhrads for @MBuhari to think a shift of democracy day from 29th May to June 12 will make them vote for him in 2049.Forget South West b/cos they will never play ball again.— John Danfulani (@john_danfulani) June 6, 2018

UEFA bans Italian goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon for three matches

European football governing body UEFA has banned goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon for three matches over comments he made about the referee after Juventus lost in the Champions League quarter-finals in April.

Buffon was enraged by English referee Michael Oliver’s decision to award Real Madrid a stoppage-time penalty kick during the second leg at the Bernabeu. The Italian lost control, screaming at and jostling the Englishman until he was shown a red card.

Cristiano Ronaldo converted the spot-kick and Real lost the match 3-1 to win the tie 4-3 on aggregate.

“The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has decided to suspend Juventus player Gianluigi Buffon for three UEFA competition matches for which he would be otherwise eligible,” UEFA said in a statement on its website on Tuesday.

40-year-old Buffon, who left Juventus after 17 seasons at the club, criticised Oliver after the match. He said the referee had been out of his depth, should have been in the stands eating crisps and must have a garbage bin for a heart.

Photos: One month after moving into compound, tenants elope with landlady’s 2 children in Edo

A 22-year-old woman, Osaruname Faith, from Egbeta in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, has called on the state police command to help her look for her two children, Amanda and Christabel, aged four and two years, who were allegedly taken away to an unknown destination by two of her tenants, Rose and Mercy.

Speaking to newsmen in Benin city, Faith said the tenants, Rose and Mercy had just moved into her compound a month ago and built a level of trust between them. Yesterday, as she went to fetch water from the stream, she left her children with the ladies, only to return and find her children and the ladies gone. Efforts to reach them via phone has proved abortive as their numbers are currently switched off. The matter has since been reported to the police.

“Yesterday afternoon, after my children returned from school, about noon, they said they were hungry. So, I prepared food and I gave to them. Later, I decided to approach my two neighbours, Rose and Mercy, to accompany me to the stream but they said they could not climb the hill on the way to the stream. So, I told them that, since they could not follow me to the stream, I would leave my two children with them and they agreed. So, I left for the stream, but when I came back I could not find my children and my two neighbours. Everybody decided to join me to look for them but we did not see them. And when we called to their phones, they were switched off. I did not know them before but since they parked into our house, we have been living peacefully together. Based on that trust, I decided to leave my children with them. My husband later went to report the matter at the Okada police station.” she said

FG raises maternity leave to 4 months, bars employers of labor from sacking women because of their marital/maternity status

The Federal government has increased maternity leave of women in the civil service to four months.

Minister of Labor and Employment, Chris Ngige, announced this when he spoke at the ongoing International Labour Conference (ILC), in Geneva, Switzerland, yesterday June 5th.

Ngige said the extension was to allow the mother and child enough time to recuperate and bond and also for women to breastfeed their babies well. He also anounced that employers of labor have been barred from terminating the appointment of women because of their marital or maternity status.

“Employers of labour (in Nigeria) are, by regulation, requested to provide workplace crèches for nursing mothers for ease at work place. In the public service, government recently increased the period for maternity leave from 12 to 16 weeks; to allow enough recuperation for both baby and mother, especially in the area of breast feeding. In addition, all disciplinary proceedings against any female staff, which might have been taken during the period of her maternity leave shall be put in abeyance till the expiration of the leave. Employers of labour are also barred from removal of women from work due to their marital or maternity status, illegal labour migration, contract staffing and labour casualisation which affects most women, are being reformed through policies and regulations at national, bilateral and multilateral levels'' he said

Issa Rae slams Kanye West in front of Kim Kardashian

Last night at the CFDA Fashion Awards, actress Issa Rae slammed Kanye West for his statement that slavery was a choice for Black people, and she did this in front of Kim Kardashian.

The "Insecure" actress served as the host for the prestigious fashion awards show and she made some bold, but not unheard of, statements about Kanye West.

She said:

I’m about as fashionable as Kanye is black. Only when it’s convenient…That joke was my choice, just like slavery.

Kanye West's wife, Kim Kardashian was in the audience when Issa made the statement but the reality star has not reacted to the jab.

Along with Issa, her fellow "Insecure" castmates are also choosing not to support Kanye West’s controversial antics. Natasha Rothwell, who plays Kelly on the show, tweeted:

ICYMI: if u still fux wit Kanye, i don’t fux wit you.

Jay Ellis, the infamous Lawrence character, shared the same sentiments, tweeting:

Musical genius or not, until he walks back 'slavery as a choice' and making America great again, I can’t support.
