‘It was like a miracle, a beautiful scene' - Trump says when asked about George Floyd protesters getting tear-gassed by National Guard

US President, Donald Trump has reacted to the US National Guard using tear gas to disperse Black Lives Matter protesters in Minnesota .

Trump described the use of teargas on protesters who took to the streets in response to the killing of George Floyd, a black American who died last month when a white Police officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on his neck in Minneapolis, as a ‘beautiful scene.’ .

Speaking at an event in Dallas, Texas, the president shared his views on efforts made by the Minnesota National Guard to restore order.

Trump said: ‘It was like a miracle. Just everything stopped. I’ll never forget the scene, it’s not supposed to be a beautiful scene but to me it was. After you watch policemen run out of a police precinct.

‘And it wasn’t their fault, they wanted to do what they had to do but they weren’t allowed to do anything but they were running down the street, they weren’t allowed to do what they’re trained to do and they took over the precinct, they essentially burned it down.

‘And yes there was some tear gas and probably some other things. And the crowd dispersed and they went through. ‘By the end of the evening… everything was fine and you didn’t hear about that location having problems anymore.’

A video of the president’s comments was obtained by The Washington Post. Trump also said he wanted police reforms to push officers to show ‘compassion with force,’ while rejecting calls to defund police forces across the country.

Nigerian government 'not excited' about restarting Nigerian league and sporting activities - SGF Mustapha

As different sectors of the Nigerian economy gradually open after the lockdown caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, Boss Mustapha, the chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 and Secretary to the federal government has revealed that the Federal Government is not interested in resumption of the Nigerian football league and other sporting activities as gatherings of over 20 people is still prohibited.

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has been suspended since March due to the pandemic and the Buhari led government only eased lockdown recently in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun, while directing states to push their own Coronavirus response.

Mustapha says the governenment will allow the reopening of sporting activities at the right time.

“I’m not sure we are excited about opening sporting activities in our country, particularly soccer [football], which attracts large crowds,” Mustapha told the media on Friday.

“If our guidelines say large gatherings are banned and not to exceed 20 persons except places of work, I don’t see the excitement if we allow soccer to return to an empty stadium.

“A lot of European countries where these games have started are big businesses and they are doing it carefully and gradually.

“We are not excited about allowing sports to return, we will get there, but for now, we are concerned with the few activities allowed to reopen.

“We will continue to review the situation, know how we are faring, study the situation and know what next to do based on data, science and peculiarity of our environment.”

Plateau United currently lead the NPFL table with 49 points from 25 games

Melania Trump had plastic surgery, lied about her age, and has 'proof in writing' that her son will be treated equal to Trump's other kids - New book claims

US First Lady, Melania Trump has referred to new book about her as 'fiction' after the writer of the book claimed the first lady had plastic surgery, used her position in the White House to renegotiate a new prenup with Donald Trump, while possessing a written document that says her son, Barron would be treated the same as Trump's other children.

According to the new book 'The Art of Her Deal: The Untold Story of Melania Trump,' , the pren-up renegotiation happened in early 2017, when she delayed her move to the White House after Trump won the presidency. It claims she lied about her age and has had plastic surgery.

The book also claims Melania didn't move into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue until June 2017 - six months after Trump took the oath of office as she used that time to renegotiate her prenuptial agreement after learning through the media of Trump's alleged infidelities, allegations he has denied.

The book also claims the incoming first lady wanted Barron to finish out his school year in New York but she also needed time to 'cool off' after hearing Infidelity stories about Trump.

The book which will be out on Tuesday was written by Washington Post reporter Mary Jordan, and paints an unprecedented portrait of the first lady' based on interviews with more than 100 people in five countries.

Excerpts from the 286-page book appeared in The Washington Post on Friday, with the book claiming Melania lied about her age as she and Trump have a much closer age range.

Melania Trump's office on Friday blasted the book as 'fiction.'

'Yet another book about Mrs. Trump with false information and sources. This book belongs in the fiction genre,' Stephanie Grisham, the first lady's chief of staff, said in a statement to DailyMail.com.

Aisha Buhari trends as she asks IGP to release her aides detained ‘on the orders of Buhari’s PA’

First lady, Aisha Buhari, is currently the number one trending topic on Nigerian Twitter after she took to the platform to ask the Mohammed Adamu, inspector general of police (IGP), to release her aides from detention.

According to SaharaReporters, Sabiu Yusuf, a nephew to President Buhari who also serves as one of his Personal Assistant, had traveled from Lagos to Abuja on Monday, June 8 and drove straight to the villa where he resides but he was denied access by the aides of the first lady who insisted he goes into self-isolation at a different location since he was returning from Lagos which is the epicenter of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

Yusuf allegedly refused and got the police to arrest the aides of the first lady.

Mrs. Buhari took to Twitter last night to ask the IG to release her aides. In her tweets, the first lady said those who travel during the COVID-19 interstate restrictions are meant to undergo 14-day mandatory isolation period as prescribed by the quarantine act. She added that no one is above the law.

“That Covid-19 is real and still very much around in our nation is not in doubt. Consequently, I call on all relevant Government Agencies to enforce the Quarantine Act signed by Mr. President and ensure no one is found violating this law and the NCDC guidelines especially on interstate travel without the necessary exemptions for movement of essentials,” she said.

Anyone who does that should at the very least be made to under go a 14 days mandatory isolation no matter who the person is, no one should be above the law and the Police command will do well to remember that.

Finally, I call on the IGP to release my assigned Staff who are still in the custody of the Police in order to avoid putting their lives in danger or exposure to Covid-19 while in their custody.” she tweeted

Nigerians have taken to Twitter to react to her tweets. Many accused her of speaking up only when the issue concerns her but silent when it is about others. They accused the first lady of not speaking up when everyone condemned the rape and murder of UNIBEN student, Uwaila Omozuwa. Read their tweets below

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo officially signs into law that chokeholds are now illegal after George Floyd's death

New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo has officially signed police reform legislation into law, consisting of 10 reform bills in the wake of the nationwide protests following the killing of George Floyd.

The bundle of police reform bills passed by the legislature this week was signed on Friday. Cuomo signed four out of the 10 bills into law, while the other six bills await his signature.

I just signed into law nation-leading legislation that:

-Ends 50-A
-Bans chokeholds
-Prohibits false race-based 911 calls
-Makes Attorney General the independent prosecutor in killings of unarmed civilians by police

There is more to do & NY will lead the way. pic.twitter.com/i4MUKe37IY— Andrew Cuomo (@NYGovCuomo) June 12, 2020

The legislative package outlaws police use of chokeholds, requires all state police officers to wear body cameras, and permits the release of disciplinary records for police officers, firefighters, and corrections officers to be released without their written consent.

It also outlaws false race-based 911 calls, a move taken after the highly publicized incident in which a white woman called 911 after a black man, who was birdwatching, requested that she leash her dog.

The chokehold law was named after Eric Garner, the black Staten Island man who died in 2014 while being held in a chokehold by a police officer.

The restraint tactic had already been prohibited by the NYPD, but today’s law makes chokeholds punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

"The truth is this police reform is long overdue and Mr. Floyd's murder is just the most recent murder," Cuomo said Friday. "It's not just about Mr. Floyd's murder. It's about being here before, many, many times before."

Cuomo was joined at the signing ceremony by the Reverend Al Sharpton, Valerie Bell, the mother of Sean Bell, who was killed by an officer in 2006, and Gwen Carr, the mother of Eric Garner, who was killed by police in New York in 2014.

Additionally, Cuomo signed an executive order making state funding to police contingent on New York agencies developing a plan by April 1 -- to be enacted into law after consultation with the community -- to "reinvent and modernize police strategies," including use of force guidelines.

"We're not going to fund police agencies in this state that do not look at what has been happening, come to terms with it, and reform themselves," he said.

The new law, effective immediately, makes disciplinary records subject to Freedom of Information Law requests from journalists and the public, shining a light on the well-guarded files after decades of secrecy.
