Africa may suffer 300,000 to 3 million deaths from Coronavirus - UN Agency says

A United Nations Agency has forecasted that the African continent might suffer as much as 3 million deaths from the novel Coronavirus.

Compared to Europe, Asia and Southern America, Africa's death toll from the virus isn't so much with majority of deaths from Northern Africa but the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in a report released Friday, said things could change very quickly as the majority of the urban population in the biggest cities on the continent live in overcrowded neighborhoods without reliable access to hand-washing facilities.

According to the UN Agency if you add that factor to relatively low supplies of hospital beds and the fact that 71% of the continent's workforce is "informally employed, then a full blown disaster is heading Africa's way..

The report, which was launched on Friday was titled: “COVID-19: Protecting African Lives and Economies” and the report had chilling details that paint a grim picture of what the future could hold for the African continent.

The UN commission referred to a computer model composed by researchers at Imperial College London. According to the model, under the worst-case scenario with no interventions against the virus, Africa could see 3.3 million deaths and 1.2 billion infections.

Under the best-case scenario which will involve “intense social distancing.” the continent could see more than 122 million infections, the report said. According to the agency, if intense social distancing is carried out, there will be halting of large sectors of the economy that'llpush as many as 29 million people into extreme poverty.

Vera Songwe, the UNECA executive secretary, says $100 billion is needed to "urgently and immediately provide fiscal space to all countries to help address the immediate safety net needs of the populations."

''Already countries in Africa have been suffering under the virus' fiscal effects, even if the physical ones have not yet made their full impact felt.

"The economic costs of the Pandemic have been harsher than the direct impact of the COVID-19," Songwe said. "
Across the continent, all economies are suffering from the sudden shock to the economies.

''The physical distancing needed to manage the pandemic is suffocating and drowning economic activity."

“Of all the continents Africa has the highest prevalence of certain underlying conditions, like tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS.”

“Collapsed businesses may never recover,” the new report said. “Without a rapid response, governments risk losing control and facing unrest.”

Ghanian MInister accuses Bishop Obinim of sleeping with his junior pastor's wife; the Reverend responds

The infamous beef between Ghanaian Legislator, Honourable Kennedy Agyapong and self-acclaimed Angel of God, Bishop Daniel Obinim is not showing signs of abating anytime soon as the MP has made fresh allegations against the pastor.

Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, who is the Member of Parliament for Assin Central in Ghana, made the new allegations in an interview on Net2 Tv’s “The Seat” show.

Hon. Agyapong launched the fresh attack after Obinim's wife, Florence Obinim defended her husband while reacting to the allegations the legislator made against him weeks ago.

Hon Agyapong said to Obinim back in March, "If you have the power to heal why have you not heal your own father up till now? You are a Fool!! He is suffering on the sickbed with leg rotten and you seem to care less about that. Nobody should step in I will deal with him”

Kennedy Agyapong also claimed that Bishop Obinim and his Junior Pastors have been sleeping with their female Church members. He also alleged that the popular Bishop scammed his female member.

After Florence Obinim defended her husband, Hon. Agyapong reacted in a new video by attacking the Bishop's wife and calling her a "foolish woman".

In fresh allegations by the MP, he stated that Bishop Obinim has had an affair with the blood sister of his wife Identified as Jemima. He also mentioned that because of his affair with her, he was able to use his wife to stop the marriage ceremony between Jemima and her suitor. Hon Kennedy Agyapong added that, Bishop Obinim also forced Jemima to have a abortion for him to hide his acts from the public.

The MP also accused the Bishop of sleeping with his junior Pastor’s wife. According to the MP, the junior Pastor, known as Saviour, personally narrated to him the issues which necessitated his departure from Obinim’s Church to join his supposed rival, Reverend Obofuor.

The honourable MP showed alleged conversations between Obinim and Pastor Saviour in which he (Obinim) threatened him (Saviour) with death. The MP promised to bring the man himself on TV to narrate his story if Obinim denies his allegations.

Reacting to the allegations from the MP, Bishop Obinim, who is the head pastor of God’s Way International Church, stated that all the claims by Kennedy Agyapong are lies.

Obinim added that henceforth he is not going to engage the legislator further, neither will he respond to any of his allegations.

'I was prepared for everything Messi did on that day' -Vincent Enyeama for the first time speaks on World Cup heroics, respect for Kanu Nwankwo & Arsenal

Nigerian goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama has spoken out about his heroics during the group stage match between Nigeria and Argentina in the 2010 World Cup while also revealing he always respected former Arsenal player Kanu Nwankwo and is a fan of Arsenal football club.

Due to his excellent saves over and over again, Vincent Enyeama was named the Man of the Match though Argentina defeated Nigeria by 1-0 in the group stage match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and Enyeama says he was ready for the Barcelona star man.

"I had studied Messi the night before (with Chidi Odiah) so everything he did that day, I was prepared for it. I already knew what he was going to do." Former Hapoel Tel Aviv and LOSC Lille goalkeeper Enyeama said in an Instagram Live interview with EaglesTracker.

"I didn't expect them to have that many opportunities to score against us, but I had watched about 15 of Messi's previous league games so I knew what he was capable of in all situations."

Enyeama also said he viewed himself as lucky to have shared the same dressing room with Nwankwo Kanu.

"Till he left the Super Eagles, I couldn't call him [Kanu] by name," Enyeama said.

"I just used to say senior man. The respect I had for him was too much."

On his favourite goalkeeper Enyeama picked Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas.

"Casillas. Van Der Sar as well. I really looked up to him in terms of playing with my foot. But Casillas..I could fight you if you insult Casillas."

When asked the club he would have loved to play for he said;

"If I could play for any club? Arsenal. I've always loved Arsenal. I don't know.. maybe it's because Papilo played there."
