A number of suspects have been arrested over the grisly murder of military officer in Denkyira Boase in the Central Region, Ghana on Monday, May 29.
The officer, Captain Maxwell Mahama was lynched by residents of the Denkyira Boase Township on suspicion of being an armed robber. He was a military officer with the 5th Infantry Batallion (5BN) at Burma Camp in Accra but on detachment duties there where he met his untimely death.
Capt. Mahama who is the commander of the area military detachment, according to his subordinates, was seen jogging along the main road and as he stopped by to ask some women for directions, the women saw a pistol on him.
Alarmed by the pistol on him, the women mistook him for an armed robber thereby alerting their assembly member who allegedly organised some men to lynch him and even burnt him in the process.
Their action is said to have been influenced by recent robbery attacks in the area with a recent one being a day before as the people in the mining town have been subjected to some serious robbery attacks. Capt. Mahama was not in uniform when the incident happened.
Cabinet Shake-up: Imo State governor sacks all his commissioners, including top officials
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has dismissed his entire cabinet members in what appears to be a strategic bid to restrengthen his administration.
The governor on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, sacked his state executive council and 27 local government transition committees with immediate effect.
In a statement by the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Pascal Obi, the Governor ordered the affected commissioners and transition committees to hand over to permanent secretaries or the most senior director in their ministries.
According to him, the secretary to the government, the chief of staff, chairmen and members of statutory commissions such as ISEC, Civil Service Commission, local government service commission were not affected.
"Also not affected in the cabinet shake-up are the state universal basic education board, the judicial service commission, and the house of assembly service commission.
"The governor also dissolved the 27 transition committees (TC) of the 27 local government areas in the state.
"The transition committee (TC) chairmen are advised to hand over to the directors of administration and general services of their respective council areas.
"The governor appreciates the contributions of the TC chairmen to the success of the rescue mission and wishes them well in their future endeavours."
Rochas who didn't disclose his reason for the action took a similar decision in 2013 when he sacked members of the state execute council mid-way into their weekly meeting, just two years after he became the governor of Imo State.
Two notorious thieves/rapists nabbed and stripped naked in Ijagun, Ogun State
Two suspected thieves that have been terrorizing residents of Ijagun Town, Ogun State were apprehended on May 25.
According to Oluwasanmi Adedamola, the suspects usually storm different female hostels to steal laptops, phones, clothes and other valuables at gunpoint. They are alleged to have raped some students during the attacks.
Serena Williams is expecting a girl, her sister Venus confirms it
The sex of Serena Williams' baby has been revealed and it's going to be a girl for the tennis champion and her Reddit co-founder fiance. Serena's sister, Venus, made this known at the French Open today.Venus made this confirmation during a post-match interview with Eurosport. She referred to the baby as "she" and said that she hopes to be the baby's favorite aunt.
She added: "We all want it to be called baby V, baby Lyn, baby Esher, we all want the baby to be named after us".
This will be the first time the sex of the baby will be revealed. Serena had been asked earlier, at the Met Gala, about the baby's gender but she gave a vague answer and said:
"We're waiting. (It's) a surprise. We call it "baby'"
Though Serena obviously did not play at the French Open, she was present to cheer her sister on and she tried to cover her baby bump in a sporty white vest top, worn underneath a camouflage jacket

Kathy Griffin might have been joking when she posted a photo of what looked like Donald Trump's bloody head but the Secret Service are taking it seriously and has launched an investigation into "the circumstances surrounding the photo shoot."The controversial photo which was shot by famed photographer Tyler Shields generated quite a lot of comments with a lot of celebrities against it and that includes those who oppose Donald Trump.
Following the backlash, Kathy apologized for the photo but Secret Service is not leaving it at that.
TMZ reports that the Secret Service does not jump to conclusions that provocative photos or writings are serious or in jest and will not automatically pass the photo off as art. They will carry out a routine investigation to conclude if the President of the U.S. is at risk. It is believed that agents will most likely attempt to interview Kathy and Tyler.

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, says the demand for the secession of the South East from Nigeria is because the nation seems not to be functioning and can never function. Kanu said this in an interview with Al-Jazeerah ,to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Biafran war yesterday May 30th.Speaking in the living room at his Father's house in Umuahia, Abia state, Kanu said Nothing seems to be working in Nigeria. There is pain and hardship everywhere. What we're fighting [for] is not self-determination for the sake of it. It's because Nigeria is not functioning and can never function." "
Kanu who was granted bail last month, says he doesn't care if he is flouting one of the terms for his bail which prohibits him from granting media interviews.
"I don't care. I can't go outside to call for a press conference. I can't go on Biafra Radio to broadcast. I can't allow large [groups of] people to basically congregate outside to see me … it's like asking me not to breathe," he said
Kanu decried the perceived marginalization of the Ibos in Nigeria, saying that they have been prevented from aspiring to assume important positions in the country such as President, Inspector General of Police, Chief of Army Staff amongst others
"I'm not allowed to contest for the presidency of Nigeria because I'm Igbo. I'm not allowed to aspire to become the inspector general of police because I'm Igbo. I'm not allowed to become chief of army staff because I'm Igbo. What sort of stupid country is that? Why would any idiot want me to be in that sort of country?" he said.
