Libel: Court orders Sahara Reporters to pay N4bn as damages to Senate president, Bukola Saraki

Justice Adeyinka Oyinloye of an Ilorin High Court in Kwara state, has ordered the publisher of online news platform, Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, to pay the sum of N4 billion as damages to Senate President, Bukola Saraki, over a series of libelous stories published on the news platform from September to December 2015.

Saraki through his lawyer, Babatunde Olomu, approached the court for an intervention following the publication of series of stories against him by Sahara Reporters.

Both Sowore and Sahara Reporters were joined as defendants in the suit marked as KWS/23/2017.

According to Saraki's counsel, the defendants had refused to defend the case despite the service of the summons on them. Olomu said the first series of service involved an arrangement between the office of the Nigerian ministry of Justice and their counterpart in New York, the operational base of the medium.

When that failed, the counsel said the claimant thereafter seized the opportunities of a visit to Nigeria by Sowore to serve him at his two properties in Ikeja area of Lagos state.

The relief granted to Saraki by the court include “the sum of N1 billion as general and aggravated damages for libelous words falsely, maliciously and recklessly published by the defendants of and concerning the claimant in the online issue of Sahara Reporters of October 5, 2015 under the caption “Nigeria at 55: Bukola Saraki and 83 Inmates Are Running the Asylum.

“The sum of N1 billion as general and aggravated damages for libelous words falsely, maliciously and recklessly published by the defendants of and concerning the claimant in the online issue of Sahara Reporters of Sahara Reporters of September 20, 2015 under the caption: “A polished Name for political immorality. Time for Saraki to Go!.

“The sum of N1 billion as general and aggravated damages for libelous words falsely, maliciously and recklessly published by the defendants of and concerning the claimant in the online issue of Sahara Reporters of Sahara Reporters of November 09, 2015 under the caption: “Bukola Saraki On a shopping Spree to Buy Judges…Stop Being a Clown And A Coward Man Up, face The Music”

“The sum of N1 billion as general and aggravated damages for libelous words falsely, maliciously and recklessly published by the defendants of and concerning the claimant in the online issue of Sahara Reporters of Sahara Reporters of December 1, 2015 under the caption: “Arms Contract Scandal: Senator Saraki Blackmailed CBN Officials To Pay N250 Million Hush Funds.”

“An order for injunction restraining the defendants from further writing, printing or causing to be written, printed or circulated or otherwise published of the claimant the said, or similar libel.

“An order directing the defendants to remove the offending publications from its website on the internet within three days from the date of judgment and an order directing the defendants to publish an apology to the claimant on its online newspaper and in three other daily newspapers.”

An Instagram user, Ann, today shared the profile of an Uber Driver who allegedly attempted to forcefully have sexual relations with her after she entered his cab yesterday night.

Imo State-born paralympic gold medalist, Precious Nwakaego Orji and her husband Kelechi Moses have welcomed their first child together, a baby girl.


She posted photos of the newborn named Chinemenma Moses, on her Facebook page on Thursday morning.


"Rejoice with me as Miss Chinemenma Moses has come. My God is wonderful and I call Him Master planner" she wrote.

The couple got married in January, 2017 in Owerri, Imo State capital. The new mother was part of the Nigerian paralympic team that won eight gold medals and a total of 12 medals at the 2016 games in Rio.

FG moves to end increasing deaths of NYSC members in their states of primary assignment

The Federal government has initiated plans to help stop the increasing number of NYSC members dying in their states of primary assignment. Recall that quite a number of Youth Corps members have died in the last one year due to one ailment or the other.



In order to stem this tide, the Federal Executive Council yesterday approved the inclusion of all NYSC members in the National Health Insurance Scheme. Health Minister, Isaac Adewole, disclosed this to state house correspondents after the meeting.


"The other memorandum granted at today's meeting had to do with how the FG would prevent unnecessary deaths among youth corps member across the country. Council has approved the memo that henceforth, we would include NYSC members in the National Health Insurance Scheme across the country and this would guarantee access to quality healthcare across the country, prevent unnecessary deaths and also ensure our youth corps members receive the highest attainable level of care across the country"he said.

Cristiano Ronaldo confirms he welcomed twins via surrogate

After his national team Portugal was eliminated from the FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia last night, Cristiano Ronaldo took to his Facebook page to announce he was leaving the tournament early to go be with his new born twin sons born via a surrogate. He wrote;

Two escaped Chibok schoolgirls meet President Donald Trump and Ivanka Trump at the White House

Joy Bishara , 20, and Lydia Pogu , 19, two of the Chibok schoolgirls who were able to escape from Boko Haram in 2014, met with US President Donald Trump at the White House Wednesday, June 28. The duo and several other girls who escaped moved to the United States to complete school.

With the help of a Christian nonprofit, others, they were able to attend boarding school in Virginia. Bishara and Pogu transferred their senior year and recently graduated from Canyonville Christian Academy. They will be attending Southeastern University in Florida in the fall.

Gabonese opposition politician arrested for threatening the President and inciting rebellion

Authorities in Gabon have arrested an opposition politician who threatened to cause violence by forcing President Ali Bongo to resign from his position. Confirming his arrest Wednesday, State prosecutor, Steeve Ndong Essame Ndong told AFP, that Roland Desire Aba'a Minko was placed in protective custody after "he threatened state security, inciting rebellion and circulating fake news to undermine public order"
According to the state prosecutor, Aba'a Minko said he had staged the actions to frighten people and was ready to "face the consequences".

Earlier this month, Mr. Aba'a Minko threatened to blow up government property if Mr. Bongo refused to step down within three days. In another incident, masked men carrying knives claiming to represent him reportedly stormed several media outlets, demanding they broadcast an audio and video message urging Gabonese citizens to revolt. Aba'a Minko is a supporter of opposition leader Jean Ping who surprisingly dissociated himself from Minko's actions.

Jean Ping who contested in the 2016 presidential election against President Ali Bongo was narrowly defeated by a few thousands of votes.

South African gay media personality, Somizi details his sexual encounter with a famous musician and his girlfriend in Tell-all book

In his new tell-all-book, South African choreographer and TV/ radio personality Somizi Mhlongo details his first sexual encounter with a famous musician and his girlfriend, an orgy he was once invited to by a Nigerian man, his many sex escapades, his friendship with late pop singer Brenda Fassie, among other racy anecdotes.

The book titled Dominoes: Unbreakable Spirit, was launched at a private event in Johannesburg on Wednesday night. Co-written with Sowetan entertainment editor and and author Lesley Mofokeng, the memoir details Mhlongo's life story...his successes, failures and scandals.
In snippets published by The Sowetan, Somizi reveals how on the day of his father’s funeral, he ended up in bed with a well-known musician and his girlfriend. He says the encounter made him aware of “certain feelings” he had never experienced before.

"My heart throbbing and loins on fire, the scent of a man and the prickly hairy legs fired me up. We fondled. I was actually the one touching him, and he touched me back, sending me into a tizz of ecstasy," he is quoted as saying.
The book further details how a kwaito star friend of his took him to a club in Hillbrow, where a Nigerian man took them to an apartment full of girls. Somizi did not really see much of what happened that night, as he says he took a glass of champagne and passed out from exhaustion.
"It was an orgy. People were having sex, and taking drugs and champagne was flowing. I took a glass of champagne and passed out from exhaustion because I was tired from my trip to Port Elizabeth. When I woke up these guys were demanding me to pay R12000 bill, when I only took a glass of champagne."
He says when he woke up, people demanded that he pay a R12 000 bill. After asking what it was for, as he only took one glass of champagne, he says they told him it was for the artist and the girls.
"I asked what was the money for and they said it was for the artist and girls." Mhlongo said he had only R2 000 in his wallet and was forced to go to the ATM to withdraw money."

He further details a 2007 sexual assault case brought against him by a “stranger” he had given a lift. The two went to Somizi’s house, had a few beers and “fondled” each other.
“He climaxed, then he said, please take me home,” Somizi writes.
He was found guilty by a Randburg court, and had to pay a fine.
In the book there are more sexcapades, including how he cheated on his boyfriend Tom, and how his friends in the music industry snorted drugs freely in front of him.
He also mentions his friendship with the late pop singer Brenda Fassie, who apparently offered him drugs.
"When she (Brenda) offered me drugs I said, no, not for me. And I had sinus problems, as such I was afraid of anything going inside my nose. She did not like that. She said I was boring and not like everyone else."

China holds Women's Beautiful Buttock contest (photos)

Chinese women known for their conservative way of dressing have surprised us by organizing a beautiful buttocks contest for women. As the name implies, the contest judges women based on their butt, using certain parameters.


Contestants of the beautiful buttocks contest are expected to wear revealing bikini bottoms to showcase their derriere optimally.

The contest is Pretty much like China's version of Brazil's Miss Bum Bum. The contest took place over the weekend in China and was open to women from all over the country who wanted to show off their assets.
It held on Saturday, June 24, in the shopping mall in Shenyang in the Liaoning province and a lot of people turned up to witness the contest.
