Notorious kidnapper, Evans sues IGP, three others over his continuous detention

Notorious kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike a.k.a. Evans, has filed a lawsuit against the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and three others at the Federal High Court in Lagos over his continuous detention.

Also joined in the lawsuit as respondents are Nigeria Police Force, Commissioner of Police, Lagos State and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos State Police Command.

Evans who was arrested at his Magodo mansion in Lagos on June 10th, says his detention without trial is illegal and wants the police to release him.

In a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed on his behalf by a his counsel, Olukoya Ogungbeje, Evans is asking the court to instruct the respondents to immediately charge him to court if there is any case against him in accordance with Sections 35 (1) (c) (3) (4) (5) (a) (b) and 36 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He asked the court to order his release if the police has no charge against him that would warrant him appearing before any court.

Photo: Three Nigerian men, woman arrested in India for duping people through fake lottery

Officers of the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch have arrested three Nigerian nationals and a local woman for duping people to the tune of over one crore rupees in fake lottery schemes.


The accused have been identified as Nigerian IT engineer, Suleiman Lawal (62) alias Benjamin, his Indian wife Bandana Chhetri alias Niki Anjali Gupta (43) Ugochukwu Usifo alias Brown Bruno (32), and Ichaba Lucky Igele (41)


The accused used to send text messages and e-mails to the unsuspecting victims informing them that they had won huge amounts in lottery schemes.


"The gang would cheat people by sending them fake lottery messages and e-mails. Names of companies like Coca-Cola, Samsung, Toyota, Ford, Chevrolet, International Monetary Fund and the UN were used as well to lure people," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) G Ramgopal Naik.Through these organisations, police said, the gang would tell people that they had won a lottery worth a million dollars.

The police received a complaint from a farmer, Sardar Kamaljeet Singh of Punjab, who told them that he was cheated of a sum of one a half crore rupees by Nigerians. He added that an Indian woman was calling him, demanding an additional Rs 45 lakhs, claiming that they needed to bribe police officials with this money in order to get his winnings cleared. The complainant was called to Delhi by the accused to pay the last instalment.

On June 23, a trap was lad by the Crime Branch sleuths at a bus stand in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar and two of the accused were arrested. Four mobile phones, fake US dollars, three laptops ans passports were seized from their possession. Two more arrest, including that of the Indian woman, were made subsequently.

Benjamin told the police that his visa expired in February 2014 but he continued staying in India illegally. In order to earn quick bucks he contacted his Nigerian counterparts in Delhi. Since Brown Bruno was an IT expert he took the data of clients and sent bulk messages and emails to lure them on the pretext of lottery amount from Coca-Cola, Samsung, International Monetary Fund, and the UN.
The gang members also spoke to the alleged targets in the voice of a woman using a software. They then sent messages to many people and later sent them fake documents related to the lottery from the Directorate of Income Tax, Monetary Fund, RBI, UN on the pretext that they had won a million US dollars.

The Nigerian High Commission has been informed of the arrests.

Gunmen shoot top EFCC investigator in Rivers

A top investigator with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on June 24, 2017 escaped death by the whiskers when gunmen opened fire on him in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Mr. Austin Okwor an operative in the Property Fraud Section of the EFCC Zonal office in Port Harcourt, had closed late for the day and as he left office, he was suddenly accosted by a gang of daredevil hoodlums who opened fire on him...


Luckily for him, he was able to shake off his assailants but not without sustaining some bullet wounds as they kept firing at him. He was rushed to a private hospital in Port Harcourt where he is receiving treatment.

According to Ishaq Salihu, Head of the Zonal office, the incident has already been reported to the Police in Port Harcourt.

Okwor is one of the operatives investigating some sensitive cases including that pertaining to corrupt judicial officials. Before the incident, the officer had been receiving threat messages. One of such messages which he received sometime in May 2017 was reported to the Police.

This incident underlines the hazards which operatives of the Commission are daily exposed to in the discharge of their duties.

In 2010, precisely September 14, the head of the Commission’s Forensic Unit, Abdullahi Muazu was shot and killed by unknown gunmen in Kaduna. Six months earlier a team of prosecutors returning to Enugu after a court appearance in Owerri, Imo state was attacked by gunmen who opened fire on them. Sergeant Eze Edoga the police escort was cut down while a senior counsel with the Commission, Joseph Uzor was critically wounded but survived.

President Trump is in the news for an unconventional move he made while speaking with the new Irish Prime Minister, who also happens to be Ireland's first gay Prime Minister.

Trump interrupted his call to Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and beckoned on an Irish reporter, then proceeded to comment on her smile and how beautiful she looked - a move that some Twitter users have condemned.

Trump was in the process of congratulating Varadkar, the youngest ever Irish leader, on his recent election win, when he sighted the female Irish TV presenter and turned his attention to her.

He said into the phone: "Well, we have a lot of your Irish press watching us. They're just now leaving the room."

He then beckoned to the woman, saying: "And where are you from? Go ahead, come here. Where are you from? We have all of this beautiful Irish press. Where are you from?"

"I'm from RTE News... Catriona Perry," Ms. Perry replied with the name of the TV station she works with and her full name.




Trump then told the Irish leader: "She has a nice smile on her face, so I bet she treats you well".

Others in the room laughed at Trump's remark and Ms. Perry stood for a short while, smiling awkwardly before she returned to her former position.


Perry, a fitness freak, later shared a video of the encounter on Twitter and described it as "bizarre".


Twitter users criticised President Trump, saying his remarks were inappropriate and "vile".

One Twitter user wrote: "'Ms.Perry, please accept the apology of at least 1 female American"

"We apologize that our president is a weird, inappropriate creep," another said.

"I'm sorry our president treated you this way," said another US citizen.



Actor Kevin Chamberlin also weighed in on the argument, saying: "He called you over to look you over. Gross," then added the hashtag "Embarrassed for my country".



Perry, who is married, granted an interview to her own network where she spoke about the encounter.

She said: "One minute we were outside the window and the next minute I'm meeting the President of The United States. Usually we would shoot from outside the window of the White House and that's what we were expecting today but instead, we were invited inside to witness the President's call to the Taoiseach. When we went in he was already on the phone but I managed to catch his eye and he called me over. "

Hollywood actor, Michael Nyqvist dies at 56 after one year battle with Cancer

Swedish actor Michael Nyqvist, known for his roles in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and "John Wick," has died after a yearlong battle with lung cancer.



The 56 year old actor "passed away quietly surrounded by family.


Late Micheal Nyqvist played Mikael Blomkvist in the 2009 Swedish films "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," "The Girl Who Played With Fire," and "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest," based on Stieg Larsson's books.


He also appeared in "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" and starred alongside Gerard Butler in an action movie to be released called "Hunter Killer."

There’s trouble in the Kardashian paradise. Just over a week ago, Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna spent Father's day together and even kept staying together days after, giving the impression that they were back together.
However, recent chat between Rob Kardashian and a woman called Bonita revealed that all is not well between the two of them.
It all started when Bonita (@bonita4real) exposed her baby daddy for exchanging text messages with Chyna.


Rob saw Bonita's post and contacted her via Instagram. He told her to call him and when she did, they began texting back and forth.


In the text, shared by Fameolous, Rob exposed a lot. He referred to his baby mama as a hoe, several times.


“She’s for everyone,” he wrote in one of the texts.


He also told of how he’s paying all her bills and that she can’t afford to give her mother money. Rob went on to claim that the luxurious lifestyle she flaunts is funded by him, including her cars.

Rob also dropped another bombshell, saying that Chyna used him for publicity last week when they were spotted with their daughter at Disneyland. He said he never wanted to go but she begged him to do it. He ended by saying he’s done with her.

Disrespecting Jonathan won’t help your struggle for Biafra- Ex-President's kinsmen tell IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu

The Ogbia Brotherhood Youth Council (OBYC), has asked Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, to desist from disrespecting former president Goodluck Jonathan, as he makes his case for the creation of Biafra.

In a recent interview with The Sun, Kanu described the former president as a weak and incompetent leader whose wife, Patience, would have done better if given the chance to become president..



Reacting to his statement, the National President of OBYC, Dr. Laguo Gilbert, in a statement released yesterday, described Kanu's statement as unfortunate and therefore should be disregarded by the public.

“Bringing former President Goodluck Jonathan into this issues in such a disrespectful manner will neither help nor give credence to its rancour. OBYC therefore warns Nnamdi Kanu to desist forthwith from linking a man of honor like Dr. Jonathan into his directionless agitation. Such radical statements remain one of the reasons why the IPOB agitation lacks its required substance. The OBYC however advises Mr. Kanu to learn from the mistakes made by the group in the past and its predecessor, as this will be necessary to implement its vision,” the statement in part read
