Senate Postpones Passage Of 2019 Budget

The Senate has postponed the passage of the 2019 budget till Tuesday, April 30th 2019.

Senate President Bukola Saraki, announced this during plenary today April 24th. According to Saraki, the postponement is because of the absence of the Chairman of the committee at plenary and to also enable committee members to study the budget details before passage.

He asked the National Assembly secretariat to ensure that senators get copies of the bill ahead of passage.

“Some members have not got printed copies of the details and I have directed the Clerk to make sure that latest by Monday we all have printed copies so that everybody can see the details of the budget, and by so doing, we can now pass it on Tuesday.

“We don’t want to run into a problem where we pass it without details and our colleagues will start to comment. So, Clerk, ensure that everybody has copies of the details by Monday and we will pass it on Tuesday,” he said.

First pictures of wealthy brothers who blew themselves up along with innocent people having breakfast at Sri Lanka's five star hotels

Two of the suicide bombers who killed scores on Easter Sunday at hotels in Sri Lanka were well-educated brothers from a wealthy family and photos of these brothers have now emerged.

Wealthy brothers Inshaf Ibrahim (left) and Ilham Ibrahim (right) were the sons of a millionaire spice trader and were privately educated in Colombo.

On Sunday, April 21, both brothers calmly walked into the luxury Shangri-La and Cinnamon Grand hotels and detonated their vests as guests were eating breakfast. Their attacks led to the death of at least 41 foreigners.

Hours later, as police raided their £1 million mansion in an exclusive neighbourhood of Colombo, Ilham's pregnant wife Fatima blew herself up, killing her three children and three officers.

Suspected killers of police officers and a pregnant woman in Afuze, Edo state arrested and paraded (photo)

Suspected? killers of four police officers, including a pregnant woman at the Afuze Police Station in Owan East local government area of Edo State on March 12th, were paraded by the police in Benin city today Wednesday April 24th. Read initial story here.

The suspects identified as Agunu Ernest (24), Paul Richard (24), Sunday Thank God (21), Suleiman Omogbai (22), George Sebastian (20) and Agbomikhe Agustine (22), killed the officers, set the station ablaze and set free their colleagues who were arrested for armed robbery in the area.

It was gathered that the suspects were arrested when a police officer searched through Agunu Ernest’s phone and discovered that most of the contacts were police officers. Ernest was said to have confessed that the phone belonged? to one of the officers killed at the Afuze Police Station.

In an interview with newsmen, one of the suspects, Suleiman Omogbai, said Ernest who was arrested by the police invited them to come and rescue them from the cell. He said it was Abaga who brought the explosives used in the operation, adding that they did not plan to kill the officers during the operation, but that he did not know what came over him.

“When we got to the station, Abaga who is at large started shooting and we killed the police officers so that we can escape. I killed one of the police, while Abaga locked the police inside the room and killed them. Abaga called me that we are going to set free Ernest and three others. Killing was not part of the plan but when we got there, Abaga killed the DPO, that was how we joined him. I didn’t intend to kill the officer but you know gun has a spirit that goes? with it,” he said.

Ernest however said he invited Abaga to come and rescue them from the cell but not to kill anyone.

“Paul with whom we were locked up in the cell together, brought Abaga’s number. We then told the IPO to call him to come and bail us. When he came, we told him to come and rescue us and after two hours, we started hearing gun shot. Not too long, they burst the door open and rescued us. We later got to know that they killed the officers,” he said.

The police say the suspects would be charged to court soon.

Man is jailed for rape after he removed his condom during sex with a prostitute

A man has been sentenced to 12 years in jail after he removed a condom while having sex with a prostitute.

Lee Hogben, 35, was accused of raping his victim by removing a condom against her consent mid-intercourse. She told him "I don’t do that – please no" when he took off the condom but he threatened her as she tried to wriggle free.

Lee contacted the sex worker online through an adult work website where she specifically stated that clients must wear protection. They met at the Royal Bath Hotel in his hometown Bournemouth, Dorset, on January 19 last year after agreeing on a price for two hours.

However, he went against all the laid down conditions. First, he had sex with her without protection. Second, he never paid her for her services.

Prosecutor Jodie Mittell said Hogben threatened the sex worker with violence when she resisted him.

She said:

Hogben went beyond what was consented to by removing the protection, which the complainant will say was a condition of intercourse.

She repeatedly protested, 'I don’t do that – please, no'. She tried to wriggle away but he told her to stop. He told her he had beaten people up and robbed people.

The victim eventually left the hotel, told police and Hogben was arrested the following day before being linked to the rape from DNA.

Hogden, who has a string of convictions for harassment and driving offences, was convicted of rape and two counts of assault.

He was sentenced to 12 years in prison as well as an extended licence period of six years. He was also sentenced to indefinite restraining orders and a sexual harm prevention order.

As he was sentenced after a trial he threatened to shoot judge Stephen Climie, telling him, "I’m coming for you. You’ll get a shotgun in the face at night."
