British toddler falls to his death after climbing out of window while his mother was cleaning

An 18-month-old boy died after falling out of a second-floor window as his mother was cleaning their apartment.

Spencer, the son of Australian expat Holly Bishop, 28, and her British partner Robert Devlin, 32, fell to his death at their apartment in Lagos, Portugal on Saturday.

Holly had Spencer following her around the apartment as she was cleaning, but she went into a panic when she turned around and couldn't find the toddler. She searched the apartment to no avail, so she rushed to a window which had been left open and was devastated to see her child lying on the pavement several metres below.

Ms Bishop's sister Jess Marach said her sister had opened the window slightly to help air the home out and could hear Spencer in the background.

"She then continued to clean the apartment and again couldn't see Spencer or now hear him either," Ms Marach said. "She thought he was getting up to mischief as kids do when they go quiet, so she went past the bathroom and didn't see him there, so then went into his room and found that he wasn't there either."

Holly Bishop then noticed the window was open all the way and rushed over to look outside.

"[Ms Bishop] ran over to look [and] saw little Spencer on the ground outside with people surrounding him and she ran straight down the stairs to him, "Ms Marach said.

Spenser was still breathing at the time, and neighbours reported seeing a young man attempting to save the boy with first aid. He suffered critical injuries and was rushed to Algarve University Hospital Centre's pediatric intensive care unit, but later died.

Police in Portugal, where the family have lived for several years, are investigating the events leading up to the tragedy.

Nigerian Immigration Service imposes airport screenings following fresh Ebola outbreak in Congo

Nigerian Immigration Service imposes airport screenings following fresh Ebola outbreak in Congo

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is taking swift action to ensure that Ebola does not enter the country following a fresh outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

NIS spokesperson Sunday James told BBC that immigration officials would tighten vigilance at airports and make more use of thermometers to screen passengers.

'We are sending a signal to all entry points in the country. The intention is to ensure that any suspected case can be promptly handed over to health officials at the airports. This is a matter which everybody must be concerned about. All hands must be on deck" he said.

During the 2014 outbreak in West Africa, more than 11,000 people died mainly in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Ebola also spread to Nigeria when Patrick Sawyer, who was infected with the virus, flew into the country from Liberia.

Nigeria’s response to the crisis was generally praised. Eight people died, including Dr Stella Ameyo Adadevo, who first attended to Mr Sawyer and helped to ensure a more devastating outbreak was avoided in Nigeria.

Retired vicar, 79, who was left homeless and nearly penniless after splitting from his 24-year-old gay husband vows to write him into his will

Philip Clements, a 79-year-old retired vicar from the Church of England was left homeless and nearly penniless after he sold his £215,000 home in Sandwich, Kent, to buy a flat in Romania, for his 24-year-old estranged husband Florin Marin, who later left him.

Now, Mr. Clements is hoping to rekindle his relationship with his much younger husband and has vowed to write him into his will.

'I have got to be realistic. I am 80 in August and I want to see him secure. He is the only one I can leave things to. I don't see much of my brothers, and they wouldn't need it. If it goes well, he will be in my will.'

According to MailOnline, the couple who got married last year celebrated their first anniversary in Spain last month and Mr. Clements is very hopeful they will get back and spend September and Christmas together.

He said: 'We have learned. We have both had to adjust. There were rumours he was with somebody else, but he has denied that.

'We are planning to spend September and Christmas together, and hopefully, it can go from there. But we don't want to jump too far just yet.

'He is young, and has plans ahead of him. But I don't think I'm going to die just yet, there is a few years left in the old boy.'

'I'm pretty determined it will work out. We laugh a lot, we are very relaxed around each other, I think this was a phase we needed to get out of our system. He is my husband. I want him to feel secure. I haven't got much to leave him at the moment, as I sold the house.'

The retired vicar added: 'He is not in it for the money. He knows I don't have a lot.'

Earlier this year, Mr. Clements's brother Tony, 68, revealed that he warned him about the relationship with Florin but he wouldn't listen.

'He would say: "I don't know how many years I've got left. I want to live life to the full. I kept telling him: "Don't be a bloody fool". But it was all about this Florin. Philip didn't seem to care about anyone else.'

President Trump withdraws from Iran nuclear deal, saying "America will not be held hostage to nuclear blackmail"

US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States is effectively withdrawing from the Iran nuclear deal, defying last-ditch diplomatic efforts by his European allies to convince him otherwise.

"I made clear that if the deal could not be fixed, the United States would no longer be a party to the agreement. The Iran deal is defective at its core. If we do nothing, we will know what exactly will happen. Therefore, I am announcing today, that the United States will withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal," Trump said in a highly-anticipated address moments ago.

Under the deal signed in Vienna with six world powers - the US, UK, France, Germany, Russia, China and the European Union - Iran scaled back its uranium enrichment programme and promised not to pursue nuclear weapons.

In exchange, international sanctions were lifted, allowing it to sell its oil and gas worldwide. However, secondary US sanctions remain. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly confirmed that Tehran has been meeting its nuclear commitments fully.

A White House statement issued after Trump's speech said the US president directed his "administration to immediately begin the process of re-imposing sanctions" related to the deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
