Atiku Abubakar finally files N2.5bn libel suit against President Buhari’s aide, Lauretta Onochie

Former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, has carried out his threat to sue President Buhari’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, for her alleged libellous tweet via her Twitter handle on May 7, 2019.

The post allegedly suggested that Atiku was on the watch list of security operatives in the United Arab Emirates and had travelled to shop for terrorists in the Middle East.

Atiku, through his lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), filed a N2.5bn suit against Onochie before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja on June 26.

“To say that the claimant is shopping for terrorists knowing same to be untrue and without any foundation is not only dishonest and reckless, but is calculated and politically designed to instigate security agents against him not only in the UAE, but across the world,” he stated in his statement of claim accompanying the suit.

Denying the allegations contained in the said tweet, Atiku said the tweet was “politically orchestrated” “solely to cause maximum damage” to his “high reputation” while challenging “the purported victory” of Onochie’s boss, President Buhari in the last presidential election at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

Atiku had in a May 14, 2019 letter, demanded an apology, retraction and payment of N500m compensation from Onochie “to assuage” the damage allegedly caused him by her social media post. He also threatened to sue her should she fail to accede to the demand “within 48 hours”.

You have 24-hours to apologise or I sue for libel - Movie Director, Jimoh Abiodun reacts to IG comedian, Lizzy Jay's rape accusation

On Sunday June 30, popular Instagram comedian, Lizzy Jay, called out Yoruba movie director, Jimoh Abiodun saying he sexually abused her and almost had his way. (Read HERE)

The filmmaker has now responded asking her to retract and apologise else he'll sue her fo rlibel.

See his full statement and Lizzy Jay's response below....

RAPE and ATTEMPT TO RAPE are two serious allegations that should never be trivialised because the real victims are out there and they need help and people's voice. Lizzy you don't have to work with me to be successful in life, neither do I have to work with you to be great.

If I say I can't work with you in my team anymore, that doesn't mean you should take your bitterness to this level. You can move on my dear and you can do great. You threw all cautions to the wind and mention my name publicly in a slander.

Lizzy, you have a father, you have a brother, how would you feel if someone did this to them? I've got my family and people who look up to me. I have a file on every single publications you've made with my name in it but I'll still stretch out this hand of alternative resolution, asking you to retract and apologise.

NB: Anyone who I have had sexual intercourse with, WITHOUT their consent should speak up!

Lizzy Jay's response;

Abey Jimoh, you know this is no lie or fake allegations.. But what was I expecting you to say in the first place?... There are few others you've molested but they are too afraid to talk, because you've succeeded in manipulating them... Anyways, I'm not in for any social media noise anymore, let's take this thing up legally!

Contrary to your post that you claim you said you don't want me anymore in you team.. Well that is a lie, because I LEFT YOUR TEAM MYSELF
I left because I know of your atrocities, I left because I couldn't deal with your selfishness anymore!
Moreover Mr AbeyJomo, I have made my name before I ever met you, so why will I ever be bitter against you? Please sir, say something else!
HOW COULD I HAVE LEFT MYSELF AND BE BITTER TOWARDS YOU... for what?
I've worked with many brands before I ever met you, so what is the reason for the bitterness?

INEC deputy director bags six years in jail for receiving N45m Diezani bribe

Justice Yusuf Birnin-Kudu of Jigawa State High Court sitting in Gumel, has sentenced a Deputy Director of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Auwal Jibrin, to six years in jail for unlawful enrichment and gratification.

He was convicted alongside one Garba Ismaila who bagged seven years in jail for benefiting from the $115.010m largesse of a former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, in the run-up to the 2015 presidential election. The two men were sentenced on Friday following their prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Kano zonal office.

Acting EFCC spokesman, Tony Orilade, who disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Sunday, said the two convicts received N45m out of the N250m disbursed in Jigawa State to influence the outcome of the 2015 elections. Jibrin and Ismaila had pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the six and seven counts against them respectively, thereby setting the stage for full trial during which the prosecution presented five witnesses and tendered 20 exhibits against them.

Delivering judgment, Justice Birnin-Kudu held that the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt “all the elements and facts of the case as contained in the charge and the testimonies of prosecution witnesses and exhibits tendered.”

He added that the defence team failed to counter the evidence presented by the prosecution through its witnesses. The court thus found the first defendant guilty as charged on count two, while the second defendant was found guilty on counts one and three.

The court, however, discharged them on counts four, five and six. The judge further ordered the final forfeiture of the recovered monies and property attached to the investigation with the exception of a three-bedroom flat attached at No. 1 Hadejia Road, Birnin Kudu , Jigawa State.
