About 400 Nigerians are in South African jails - Interior Minister, Abdulrahman Dambazaub reveals
Minister of Interior, retired Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau on Friday said 400 Nigerians are saving jail terms for various offences in South Africa.
Dambazau made the disclosure during a joint news conference, which took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the visit of Nigerian delegation to South Africa.
'These are in the minority because equally we have Nigerian professionals who are contributing positively to development of the economy of South Africa. However, that is not to say that they should fold their arms and not to do something about somebody involved in criminality.
But in doing that, we emphasised that due process of the law should be taken in terms of the assumption of innocence, being proven guilty and in terms of fair hearing. I understand that there are about 400 Nigerians who are in their prison for various offences,'he said
He also said the offenders would finish their jail terms in South Africa.
Dambazau who was joined by Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama on Monday to led a delegation to South Africa over the recent xenophobic attacks, also confirmed that they met with the Nigerian community in South Africa.
'When we met with the Nigerian community, we also emphasised that those who are involved in criminal behaviour should not be allowed to spoil the good name of Nigeria. 'So, they have that moral responsibility to report where necessary,' he said.
Zimbabwean boxer who was due for deportation allegedly commits suicide in London
A 42-year-old Zimbabwean boxer who was due to be deported by immigration officials has allegedly committed suicide in south London. Bhekitshe Moyo, who was reported missing on the evening of Monday, March 6, was discovered dead the following day close to Mitcham Common. Moyo, a former bank manager had lived in the UK for more than 15 years before he was ordered to leave by the Home Office.
Before his death, an unusual Facebook post prompted concerns from his family in Zimbabwe.‘I have to sleep now. I love you all. Now be good to one another,’ he wrote on Facebook.Moyo, who lived in Wallington, was a talented boxer who competed in matches frequently and he often volunteered teaching youths interested in the sport.
He went to the UK on a sports visa, a family friend told the Evening Standard.

Kendall Jenner fires her security guard after $200k worth of Jewelry is stolen from her home
On March 16, it was reported that jewelry estimated at $200,000 was stolen from Kendall Jenner's bedroom in her $6.5m mansion in LA. Now although cops are investigating, she has fired her security guard, just like Kim did after she was robbed in Paris. It appears the fam is upset because when Kendall left for an hour around midnight, someone who was not an invited guest got inside the house.
You'll recall, Kim's longtime bodyguard, Pascal, was given his walking papers after the Paris robbery, because he left the apartment with Kourtney and Kendall shortly before the invasion. We're told there are surveillance cameras in and around the house, and cops are hopeful it will give them a hot lead. We're also told the items stolen include a Rolex and a Cartier watch.
