Mo Abudu on CNN African voices - Talks breaking records & the need to tell African stories

Mo Abudu is the featured guest on this week’s episode of CNN African Voices. The 30-minute magazine programme premiered on CNN this morning at 10.30 a.m (CAT), with repeat editions scheduled for today, Saturday 25th March at 2.30 p.m CAT. CNN refers to Abudu as a successful woman driven by “perseverance, passion, and positivity” adding that the EbonyLife TV Chairwoman takes viewers “behind the scenes of her empire to see how she creates content that has audiences in Africa and abroad clamouring for more”.

Mom who beat cancer while pregnant dies day after giving birth to twins

A 30-year-old California mum, Jamie Snider, who beat cancer while she was pregnant with twins, died tragically Friday, just a day after giving birth to the babies. Snider who was a mother to two older daughters, had beaten cancer once before but lost an ovary in the process. She was shocked to learn she was pregnant with twins, but then during the ultra sound, doctors discovered an aggressive form of cervical cancer had returned.



“Everything about her was infectious from her beautiful bright green eyes, her big smile, her laugh and her hugs!”Snider underwent intensive treatment and therapies for her disease while continuing to nourish the growth of her two little miracles.

She underwent chemotherapy and radiation at Stanford Medical Center, and shared on Facebook that she was undergoing a radical hysterectomy after a planned C-section delivery. On March 16th, she wrote:

“Tomorrow will be a great day, God has been by my side the whole time. All your prayers and love have kept me going as well. Wish me luck. I’m having a C-section at 7 and then a radical hysterectomy right after. I’ll be fine. Thank you, God, for keeping me positive through all the hard times.”
The babies were born prematurely on March 16th, 2017, at 33 weeks and weighed only about 3½ pounds. The twins, Camila and Nico were tiny, healthy, vibrant and stable, according to family friend.

Snider didn't die of Cancer, a day after the surgeries, Snider suffered congestive heart failure and died.


“What gives me peace in my heart is she got to see those babies and hold them and be with them a little bit,” Larina Campanile, Snider’s longtime friend.In addition to the twins, whom Snider named Nico and Camila, she is survived by daughters Aubrey and Maddie.

The twins have since been moved out of the hospital and are with members of Snider’s family in the Fresno area until they can move to New Hampshire with their father and older sisters.

The father of the twins, Heath Coigny, will relocate with all four children to New Hampshire to live with family.

Muslim woman who was bashed online for 'walking past Westminster bridge horror' speaks

The Muslim woman who was photographed looking at her phone while walking past a victim being treated on the pavement at Westminster Bridge on the day a terrorist ploughed his car into passers-by, has clapped back at trolls for slamming her over the photo without understanding what really happened. Speaking about the incident to Tell Mama, an organisation which supports victims of anti-Muslim hate, the woman said she was devastated and had helped the victims before picking her phone to call her family. She said




'I'm shocked and totally dismayed at how a picture of me is being circulated on social media. I have been devastated by witnessing the aftermath of a shocking and numbing terror attack.'
'To those individuals who have interpreted and commented on what my thoughts were in that horrific and distressful moment, I would like to say not only have I been devastated by witnessing the aftermath of a shocking and numbing terror attack, I've also had to deal with the shock of finding my picture plastered all over social media by those who could not look beyond my attire, who draw conclusions based on hate and xenophobia.
'My thoughts at that moment were one of sadness, fear, and concern. What the image does not show is that I had talked to other witnesses to try and find out what was happening, to see if I could be of any help, even though enough people were at the scene tending to the victims.
'I then decided to call my family to say that I was fine and was making my way home from work, assisting a lady along the way by helping her get to Waterloo station.
'My thoughts go out to all the victims and their families. I would like to thank Jamie Lorriman, the photographer who took the picture, for speaking to the media in my defence.

The Secret Service can no longer afford the Trump family lifestyle

President Donald Trump’s frequent travel, large family and unusual living situation is apparently weighing heavily on the Secret Service’s budget.


According to a Washington Post report, the agency recently requested an additional $60 million in spending for fiscal year 2018. Nearly $27 million of that was to be earmarked for security at the president’s private residence at Trump Tower in New York, where first lady Melania Trump lives with their 11-year-old son.

The Secret Service also said it needed another $33 million to cover travel costs incurred by “the president, vice president and other visiting heads of state.”


The Office of Management and Budget rejected the request which could potentially force the Secret Service to scale back on other operations, like investigations into cyber hacking, counterfeit currency, financial crimes or missing and exploited minors.



Providing Secret Service details for the first lady and the rest of Trump’s family, including his four adult sons and daughters, has also led to mounting costs. Although this level of protection is standard for the first family, the specific needs of Trump’s older children have attracted scrutiny.

At a press conference this week, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said there was no hypocrisy here. “Presidents always travel,” said Spicer. “The president, wherever he goes, he carries the apparatus of the White House with us. That is just something that happens.”
