LGBTQ, transgender issues should be taught in nursery school, UK teachers' union says

A British teachers' union wants to teach children as young as 2 years old about transgender and LGBTQ issues, but conservatives and faith-based organizations have made their disapproval known and have said such a move is an infringement on parental rights. The British National Union of Teachers (NUT) called on members this week at their annual conference in Wales to promote LGBTQ issues to children. starting as early as nursery school.

NUT also urged ministers to make proposed sex and relationship education “inclusive” of lesbian, gay, and bisexual issues.

“It is far better that children are provided with accurate information in the classroom rather than inaccurate information in the playground,” a NUT booklet on advice for teachers about LGBTQ equality and transgender issues said.The union said there is a “lack of policies” that focus on promoting transgender and LGBTQ issues within schools, which could have a negative impact on the well-being of students and teachers who identify in those groups.

NUT Secretary Kevin Courtney said in a statement:

"It is important for a modern forward-thinking society to understand and embrace differences within our communities”. “Schools are ideally placed to do this."NUT’s advocacy focuses on a bill, expected to soon become law, that requires primary- and secondary-aged school children be given “age-appropriate” sex and relationship education. The teachers’ union wants transgender and LGBTQ issues to be made part of the soon-to-be mandated sex education curricula.

“The Government’s proposal on plans to make Sex and Relationships Education (SRE) compulsory in all secondary schools, and to consult about what support schools need, is a positive one,” Courtney said in a statement.
“There is a consensus within the profession that SRE should be statutory at all key stages because of the benefits for children and young people — the NUT has been at the heart of the campaign to achieve the proper status for this vital subject.” However, NUT’s view on sex education to promote LGBTQ issues to children was promptly condemned by Christian Concern, a conservative U.K. organization. The organization devoted a page on its website:

“Education can shape a generation. Currently there is pressure on schools from lobby groups and some MPs to promote homosexuality and impose inappropriate sex education on younger children. There are also attempts to remove the freedom that parents currently have to withdraw their children from sex education. At Christian Concern we believe that ultimate responsibility for educating children lies with the parents, not the State.
We campaign for parental freedoms and education that reflects Biblical values.” Andrea Williams, chief executive of Christian Concern, said that teaching sex and relationship education to young children would be “devastating” and risks “robbing them of their innocence.”
“Sexuality is not an issue for toddlers,” Williams said.

Laura Perins, co-editor of the Conservative Woman website, also criticized the initiative in a released statement stating:

“The more paper tigers we create the more confused our children will become. When will common sense prevail?”. “It seems nothing is off-limits for adult bullies who want to use young children as a tool in their misguided agenda”.

Man badly beaten after stealing $2,600 from his employees, confessed that he gave ₦35,000 to his wife & $1,000 to girlfriend

According to a twitter user, @Afolashade_, here's what happened. The brutalized man sitting, simply identified as James, is a house cleaner who stole $2,600 from his employers. Luckily, they were able to recover $1,300 from him. The balance was however already spent with his girlfriend receiving more than his family. James sent ₦5000 home to his mother in Aba, His brother, ₦7000, His wife and two kids, ₦35000, a friend $600 and his girlfriend, $1000.

Apparently he searched the bookshelves in the house while cleaning and took all the foreign currency he came across. He picked it all at once and forgot to arrange the books properly, coming back to the same house later on with courage. During the interrogation, he refused to give up the identity of his girlfriend and was badly beaten. The calculations don't add up though. Read what she wrote below:

Once you are dead, you are dead but the least we as humans can do is to remember our loved ones the best way we can. Unfortunately this can't be said for Legendary Nigerian rapper, Olaitan Oladapo Olaonipekun, aka ‘Dagrin’ who died on this day 7 years ago.
On Thursday, April 20, 2017 LIB paid a visit to the late rapper’s tombstone at Atan cemetery, Yaba ahead of his 7th year remembrance and despite the fact that he was buried in a private vault, his final resting place is too plain, too ordinary and nothing to write home about.
It still remains the same flat concrete slab with no decoration, marble head-sign, his name is almost cleaned off the poor slab with no sign to show how impactful his 26 years of existence was.
'Baba this guy has been forgotten here o' one of the mortuary attendants told us. He added that, 'nobody dey come check on am at all, even his family sef. Na one time him girlfriend for abroad dey but but she sef don stop. Then recently a rapper also came i think it was CDQ I'm not sure'.
Dagrin died at about 6pm on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the Lagos State Teaching Hospital, LUTH and was buried on Friday, April 30, 2010 at the Ebony Millennium Private Vault, Atan Cemetery.


At the time of his death, his star power and celebrity status shook the industry to it's very roots, so much was his popularity that many websites who first reported his death crashed that night due to the number of visitors reading to confirm the story. Radio and TV stations played his songs endlessly, most of them will today remember him by playing his songs on air and forget him till the next anniversary.


Truth be told, no one is expected to put their life on hold just to honour Dagrin but the least we can do is to immortalize a man that paved way for so many. Just Imagine that there's no buzz for a Dagrin remembrance concert 7 ears after his death!!!


Like it or not, the Legend of Dagrin and his exploits can not be erased from the Nigerian Entertainment history. As humans, as practitioners in the industry, we can and we must do better to honour our own.
