Raymond Dokpesi’s U.S. visa revoked over looters list

The US Visa of PDP chieftain and owner of television station, AIT, Raymond Dokpesi, has been revoked following the inclusion of his name in the Federal government's looters list.

According to Dokpesi, the Federal government after releasing the looters list, wrote to the US Embassy in Nigeria for his visa to be revoked, a request the embassy granted. The embassy in a letter dated March 16th, notified him of their decision to revoke his visa.



Dokpesi who is standing trial for allegedly receiving N2.2 billion from the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, has dragged the Federal government to court over the inclusion of his name in the looters list.

Dokpesi who is asking for N5 billion in damages, says the publication of his name as a looter was malicious since he has not been convicted by any court of competent jurisdiction.



The PDP chieftain in the suit filed by his counsel Mike Ozekhome before the Federal High Court Abuja, asked the court to compel the Federal government to issue a retraction and an apology to him which must be published both in the social media and in newspaper and televisions stations.

Dokpesi is also praying for a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants or their agents from further making any defamatory publications against him, and N50million as cost of the action

Facebook announces plan to launch dating service

Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg announced on Tuesday that the world’s largest social network will soon include a new dating feature vowing to make privacy protection its top priority in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal.



Zuckerberg unveiled the plans as he addressed Facebook’s annual developers conference in San Jose, California emphasizing that the focus would be on helping people find long-term partners. “This is going to be for building real, long-term relationships, not just hook-ups”.



He said in presenting the new feature, noting that one in three marriages in the United States start online and that some 200 million Facebook users identify as being single. Under the new feature, users will be able to create a separate “dating” profile not visible to their network of friends, with potential matches recommended based on dating preferences, points in common, and mutual acquaintances.



Zuckerberg did not specify whether the feature would be free of charge, in line with Facebook’s core offer but the announcement was enough to send shares in the online dating giant Match.com tumbling by 17 percent. The 33-year-old CEO also said the dating offer was built from the ground-up with privacy and safety in mind, as he underscored the firm’s commitment to boosting privacy protections.

Obasanjo's letter to me was abusive'' President Buhari

President Buhari has described the January 23rd controversial letter former president Olusegun Obasanjo wrote to him asking him not to seek re-election as abusive.

Speaking in an interview with the Hausa version of the Voice of America in the US, President Buhari said even though the letter was abusive, he had to refrain the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, from replying the letter with abusive words.

”Even when the Minister of Information and Culture wanted to reply that abusive letter written by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, I told him not to. I later allowed him but only to highlight the achievements of our administration.’’ President Buhari said

In his explosive letter which generated a lot of reactiosn, Obasanjo accused President Buhari of nepotism, having a poor understanding of politics and engaging in blame games rather than accepting responsibility for his failure. Part of the letter read

“Whatever may be the state of President Buhari’s health today, he should neither overpush his luck nor over-tax the patience and tolerance of Nigerians for him, no matter what his self-serving, so-called advisers, who would claim that they love him more than God loves him and that without him, there would be no Nigeria say. President Buhari needs a dignified and honourable dismount from the horse. He needs to have time to reflect, refurbish physically and recoup and after appropriate rest, once again, join the stock of Nigerian leaders, whose experience, influence, wisdom and outreach can be deployed in the sideline for the good of the country
