Libyan coach apologizes after accusing Nigeria of using "juju" to win games, Nigerians react

Libya coach, Adel Amrouche has apologised after he accused Nigeria’s Super Eagles of relying on “Juju” to win their games.

Amrouche made this statement after the game between Libya and South Africa in Durban which ended in a scoreless draw. He said after the game that he was looking forward to playing against the Super Eagles.

He said:

South Africa is a fantastic team and have fantastic players and it’s not easy to play against them.

For me, I’m ready for Nigeria; if they want we can play both games in Nigeria; they believe in juju and we believe in God.

Later, he tweeted an apology after he was called out for his statement

His tweet reads:

I apologise to the Nigeria football community for using the words JUJU in the press conference in SA. I used the word in jest. I respect Nigerians and their RICH football tradition. I’m a man who likes joking, but I realise I used the word out of context. Please accept my apologies.

Presidency reacts to bribery allegation against President Buhari's Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari

The Presidency has reacted to the recent corruption allegations leveled against the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari.

Over the weekend, a national newspaper had claimed that Kyari demanded bribe as a condition for the award of a contract.

Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Garba Shehu, in a statement released over the weekend, said the publication was improbable and outlandish as Kyari had no “private meetings with the person making those allegations.”

”What is even more surprising is the decision by the newspaper to run the cooked up lies despite obvious loopholes in the story, such as the Bureau of Public Procurement’s denial that a major source for the story was a member of their staff. With a slew of crucial elections ahead, some politicians and their media agents appear to be working together to build pressure on the Buhari administration by wielding non-existent scandals against it. We equally note that the supply of 15 Hilux vehicles for the Presidency was an unlikely contract to have been awarded, as it did not exist anywhere in the 2016 and 2017 budgets. Checking the appropriation for 2016 and 2017, that request is not even there. How could Abba Kyari have asked for money to award a contract that did not exist anywhere at all? In addition to that, the amount allegedly given in bribe was also suspicious, as the office of the presidential aide had been known in the past to receive imprest of N200 million and above every month, with no one expected to give account. It was only since Abba Kyari occupied that position that things changed.”

According to him, it is difficult to make a case of N29 million bribery against an official who spurned a monthly payment of N200 million to his office, which he didn’t need to account to anyone.

Comedian D.L. Hughley supports Serena Williams, says women get unfairly penalized for things men do all the time

Comedian D.L. Hughley has taken sides with Serena Williams after her epic outburst at the US Open finals.

Hughley said Serena absolutely has a point about women getting unfairly penalized for things men do all the time. He went on to point to Martha Stewart as an example.

Hughley was asked by TMZ if Serena was justified in her outburst after an umpire took a point away from her, and then a whole game.

Serena called the umpire a thief then later said male players have said harsher things yet are hardly reprimanded as severely as she was.

D.L. Hughley agreed with Serena, and pointed out other epic outburst from men like Andre Agassi and John McEnroe. McEnroe once called an umpire a "jerk" and demanded he be replaced mid-game.

D.L. went on to point out that Martha Stewart went to jail for illegally pocketing around $40,000. He insinuates that a high-profile man who might've been caught up in a similar case probably wouldn't have seen jail time.

''Check people’s bank account balances and get dismissed'' - IGP warns FSARS

Inspector General of Police has warned men of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad F-SARS to desist from checking the bank accounts details of anyone they interact with while discharging their duties.

Speaking at a workshop on the reformed F-SARS in Owerri, Imo state, the IG also warned the F-SARS operatives not to invade people’s phones and laptops unless they have a court order or an instruction from the commissioner of police in charge of a state police command..

Represented at the event by the Deputy commissioner of police in charge of the IGP’s X-Squad, Amaechi Elumelu, the police chief also added that F-SARS operative who handles cases not related to armed robbery and kidnapping would equally be dismissed from the Nigeria police force.

''Under the reformed F-SARS, it is illegal to search suspects phones, computers, or inquire about their bank account details without proper authorization. Henceforth, the F-SARS Commanders must get directives from the State Commissioners before invading people’s privacies. Any officer who disobeys will be dismissed.” he said

Photo: Bricklayer arrested for allegedly raping his 13-year-old neighbour’s daughter

The Ondo state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, have arrested a 35-year-old bricklayer, Dayo Samuel, for allegedly raping a 13-year-old daughter of his neighbor in the Ijoka area of Akure, Ondo State.

Parading the suspect before newsmen, the state Commandant of the NSCDC, Pedro Awili, said the suspect had threatened to kill the victim if she told anybody that he defiled her.

“Abuse and defilement of minors have becoming a recurring crime in Ondo State and NSCDC has been collaborating with other security agencies to ensure that the trend is brought to an end in the state. The suspect will soon be charged to court after the completion of investigation.” Awili said

Speaking to newsmen, the victim said Samuel used to give her N50 or groundnuts to lure her.

“He would give me money or groundnuts before having sex with me. I later told my mother. It is my mother that told the civil defence people to arrest him.” she said

The suspect however denied the allegation. He accused the motrher of the victim of using her daughter to frame him just because they were having a quarrell.

“I didn’t defile the girl; the woman and her child are not telling the truth,” he said.
