We shall meet in court - Falana tells DSS for allegedly refusing to release Sowore the second time

Senior Advocate Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana has threatened to drag the Department of State Services (DSS) to court for allegedly refusing to release Omoyele Sowore who has reportedly met his bail conditions.

In a statement released on Thursday November 7, Falana disclosed that this is the second time the security agency will be refusing to release the convener of the #RevolutionNow Movement even though the federal high court in Abuja has ordered his release alongside Olawale Adebayo a.k.a Mandate.

“On 8th August 2019, the Honourable Justice Taiwo Taiwo granted the application of the State Security Service to detain Mr. Omoyele Sowore for 45 days,” he said.

“Upon the expiration of the 45-day detention period the court granted Mr. Sowore bail on September 24, 2019. He met the bail conditions but the State Security Service refused to release him from custody.

“Mr. Sowore and Mandate Bakare were subsequently charged with treasonable felony, cyber stalking and money laundering on September 30, 2019. The trial judge, the Honourable Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu admitted the defendants to bail under very stringent conditions. Upon meeting the bail conditions Justice Ojukwu directed the State Security Service to release the defendants from detention.

“But in utter contempt of the orders of Justice Ojukwu the State Security Service has refused to release Messrs Sowore and Bakare from custody.

“Since the State Security Service is not above the law of the land we shall embark on appropriate legal measures to ensure compliance with the court orders.”

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has apologized after his security aides assaulted a journalist at the banquet hall of the presidential villa in Abuja where the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) chaired by Abike Dabiri-Erewa organised a summit.

Recall LIB reported that Abayomi Adeshida, a photo-journalist with Vanguard was taking photographs of the vice president at the exhibition stand when Department of State Services (DSS) operatives pounced on him as Osinbajo was being presented a copy of the magazine as souvenir. Reacting to the backlash that trailed the incident, Osinbajo's media aide Laolu Akande apologized publicly on his behalf. He further disclosed that the issue has been resolved.

He tweeted "The needless scuffle btw a villa accredited photographer, Mr. Adeshida & one of our security aides earlier today has since been resolved. Incident is regretted & I have apologized to him for any embarrassment caused. "

Also commenting on the viral list of sacked aides of the Vice President, Akande said it should be ignored.

"Also, a list circulating in the media on d so-called sacked ......presidential aides is not genuine and ought to be ignored" he tweeted.
