Catholic bishop warns FG against deploying soldiers to #EndSARS protest grounds

The Catholic archbishop of Lagos, Alfred Martins has warned President Buhari against deploying soldiers to the #EndSARS protest grounds across the country.

The Catholic Bishop stated that deployment of security operatives to the protest grounds can only lead to injuries and possible deaths and an escalation. Martins also advised the youths to continue being peaceful during the protests as the world is watching.

His statement read;

“Such a measure, if adopted, can only lead to injuries and possible deaths, and an escalation of the protests. It has the tendency of turning the largely peaceful protests into a violent one.

“We therefore urge the federal government to toe the line of engagement in dialogue, listening to the demands of the youth and other well-meaning Nigerians.

“We commend the government for acceding to the demands of the youth. Now, the whole country looks forward to practical steps that would be taken to implement them.

“We believe that a sincere and transparent response to the demands of the young people would go a long way in resolving the present impasse.”

My life and that of other #EndSARS protesters have been threatened by Enugu state government - Phyno

Indigenous rapper, Phyno has accused the Enugu state government of threatening his life and that of other #EndSARS protesters.

In a tweet he shared, he stated that the Enugu state government should be held responsible should anything happen to them. Phyno accused Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of storming the protest with thugs who tried to fight them.

He tweeted;

Enugu! Today our lives were threatened and we are making it clear that if ANYTHING happens to any single one of us or any protestors, let it be known that it was done by the ENUGU STATE GOVERNMENT!

Today, our peaceful protest in Enugu from Ogbete Market to the Enugu State Government House was going well until we reached the government house. Along the way we noticed a group of thugs joined the protests

The governor came out but refused to speak up and address the protestors, instead he addressed the thugs. The thugs tried to fight us but we maintained peace because we recognized their plan.

We made sure the youth remained calm yet the governor refused to answer our questions! Instead he walked out on us, unapologetically, with the thugs following him. We made it clear that we knew the people he was pretending to address were paid thugs.

As we have been saying: The movement won’t stop! We come in peace as always

#EndSARS: She did not kill anybody- Actress Lilian Afegbai reacts to claims her retired police officer mum killed a UNIBEN student

Actress Lilian Afegbai has dismissed reports online claiming her mum, Carol Afegbai, who is a retired police officer, killed and hurriedly buried a student of the University of Benin in 2013.

Recall that on Friday, October 16, Lilian shared a video online blasting Nigerians who were attacking #EndSARS protesters over what they wore to the protest grounds.

Shortly after posting the video, Nigerians went on Twitter to accuse her mum of killing a UNIBEN student in May 2013. They argued that Lilian has no moral justification to call for an end to police brutality when her mum has also been accused of the same offense.

Reacting to the allegation via her Instagram page, Lilian said her mum never killed anybody. She averred that another officer, Amadin Idahosa, was found guilty of the murder in question and that the said Amadin is currently serving a life imprisonment sentence.

''My spirit will not be dampened by the death threats and cyber bullying.

I am a Nigerian youth and we deserve a better Nigeria and I will continually fight until it is fixed.

As per my mother being dragged for murder, to the best of my knowledge my mother who is now retired did not kill anyone. The police officer (AMADIN IDAHOSA) that was attached to my mother’s station who killed the suspect was sentenced to life imprisonment by Justice R. Irele-Ifijeh of the High Court of Justice, Edo State in Charge No: B/CD/24C/2014.

He is currently serving his jail term at the Oko Prison, Benin, although he has appealed the matter up to the Supreme Court.

My spirit will never be broken. I will fight for justice and against the system that have put all of us into this mess.
#endsars #endpolicebrutality''

Lilian also shared photos of court papers to back up her claim.

#EndSARS: Protesters celebrate Calabar's No. 1 Traffic Warden for his hard work and dedication

A traffic warden identified as Igri Nna Nkanu, was celebrated by #EndSARS protesters in Calabar for his hard work and dedication to duty.

When the protesters got to his post on Friday, they gathered around him, carried him shoulder high and cheered him on for doing a job. In the video, some of the protesters could be seem spraying money on him as he smiled from ear to ear.

Commenting on the celebration, popular to journalist, Iwara Iwara, revealed that Mr Nkanu, who is described as Calabar's N0. 1 traffic warden, received financial reward in 2016 from many public spirited individuals and companies.

"SHOW THIS TO A POLICE MAN/WOMAN NEAR YOU!
In 2016, I undertook a personal smart campaign to reward IGRI NKANU, unarguably Calabar's No. 1 traffic warden, for his hard work and dedication to duty," he wrote.

"That campaign gifted him a considerable amount of cash, contributed by several Nigerians at home and abroad. I also nominated him for the GTBank traffic warden of the year, sent in a short video of him at work and he came so so close to winning it. The bank, convinced he must be appreciated and encouraged, called him up in December of that year and splashed cash and gifts on him... he was awed and wept over the phone when he called to inform me,"

"Unlike most of his colleagues, who stand at different spots in our towns and villages, intolerably complicating things for motorists, commuters and anybody 'wey eye see', he exceptionally does his traffic warden job to the latter,"

"When the #endsars protest in Calabar got to him, he was surrounded, carried shoulder high and celebrated for doing a GOOD job. The action of these protesters carries a powerful message to his colleagues and more than a lesson for us all.
Dare to be DIFFERENT!"
