Stop referring to Nigeria as "Naija"- National Orientation Agency appeals to Nigerians

The National Orientation Agency NOA has appealed to Nigerians to desist from referring to Nigeria as "Naija. Director General of the agency, Garba Abari, made the appeal when he spoke at a news conference in Abuja yesterday. According to him, it is becoming worrisome that some Nigerians are changing the original name of Nigeria.

“We try in all our advocacy visits to insist that Nigeria must be referred to as Nigeria and not Naija. So, our schools have a role to play in this. The media itself has also got a very fundamental role to play because it is the media that helps in the propagation of this kind of misnomer. All of us, as individuals, as corporate organisations, as media, whether broadcast, print or online, must wake up to the reality. That the more we use these misnomers referring to our country, the fallout of it is that, a significant percentage of our younger ones will not even remember that Nigeria is the original name of our country. I want to appeal to all Nigerians, young and old to always refer to our country as Nigeria"he said

My husband won the 2015 election because of his doggedness and compassion for the masses- Aisha Buhari

Wife of President Buhari, Aisha Buhari, yesterday disclosed that her husband's doggedness and compassion for the masses made him win the 2015 presidential election depsite losing in four other elections.

Aisha Buhari said this at the launch of a book, titled: “Buhari vs Yar’Adua: Facing the future,” written by Opeyemi Soyombo, Special Assistant on Media to Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

Represented by the wife of the Ogun state governor, Olufunso Amosun, Aisha Buhari asked Nigerians to emulate her husband in the pursuit of their dreams.

“There are lots of lessons to learn from the life of President Muhammadu Buhari, most especially his doggedness and compassion for the masses. President Buhari contested presidential elections four consecutive times before he eventually won in 2015. His victory has paid off considering his passion to help the masses and most importantly, the successes recorded in the anti-corruption war of his government. I commend the efforts of the writer for documenting the presidential election suit between the candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and President Umaru Yar’Adua of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2007. This shows that the author has been following with keen interest elections held in the country and the petitions arising from them. In most recent shared views and writings on human and societal development, the investment made on other people gives tremendous yields; thus the facts and authenticity of the book are invaluable.”she said

Former President Jonathan denies endorsing Ali Modu Sheriff as PDP chairman

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has denied reports that he endorsed Ali Modu Sheriff as the National Chairman of PDP. Sheriff paid the former president a visit two days ago, causing speculations that the former president is in support of Sheriff's leadership.

Some media houses even reported that Jonathan had openly declared his support for the leadership of Sheriff. However in a swift reaction, Jonathan yesterday issued a statement denying this claim.

The statement signed by his media adviser, Ikechukwu Eze reads

“The issue of endorsement never came up in the course of the visit, not at the closed door session with Sheriff nor during the former President’s interview with newsmen". According to Eze, Jonathan never referred to Sheriff as the party's chairman during the visit but only addressed Sheriff as “my chairman” The statement reads in part “Indeed, it may interest you to know that after meeting with Sheriff, the former President also met with Senator Ahmed Makarfi, leader of the PDP Caretaker Committee, and the party’s Board of Trustees chairman, Senator Walid Jubril, later in the evening. I wish to let those spinning this falsehood know that it just doesn’t add up to fly a contrived banner of endorsement in one breath, and in another, concede that the former President explained his commitment in meeting with different interest groups, towards resolving the differences in the party. For the avoidance of doubt, the following are the former President’s exact words during the interview with newsmen, as had accurately been reported by most online and major national newspapers, as well as broadcast organisations”. The statement quoted Jonathan’s words after meeting with Sheriff “We (PDP) are not factionalised. We are one. We are solving our problems. There are bound to be differences in politics. It is the way we resolve these differences that make us human beings and that is what makes us leaders. I have met with Sheriff. And I have met with others. I will still meet with others, so that we will be able to do what is expected of us as a political party”

I wish I was not in government- Ben Murray-Bruce says

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce says he wished he wasn't in government, saying being a Senator has exposed him to many facts and figures that are quite frustrating. Speaking to National Assembly correspondents in Abuja, Ben Murray-Bruce, who is the senate committee chairman on privatization expressed his frustrations at the failed privatization programme initiated by the Obasanjo-administration.

"I wish I was not in government, I tell you the truth because when you are in government, you know too much and when you know too much, you get very very angry. When I was in the private sector, I didn't have the information I have today. I didn't have access to budgets of ministries and departments. Now that I have access to budgets of Ministries and departments, there is no reason for Nigeria to be broke. We are broke on purpose. We want to be broke"he saidWatch the video after the cut...

Man wakes up bleeding with his jaw hanging but didnt know how severe it was until he got to the hospital

On November 14, 2013, New York father Kenneth Dearden woke up in the early morning to find his pillow covered in blood. It was a night that would change his life forever. The confused man had a “searing pain in his jaw" and his wife, former NYPD psychologist Emily Dearden, was nowhere to be seen, according to CBS News.

As his children slept nearby, Kenneth wandered the house in search of his wife. He soon found her sprawled on the living room floor. When he got her up, she said that she had been hit in the head and knocked unconscious by an intruder.

But even in his delirious state, he knew his wife was acting strange. The husband noticed that his wife had the laundry running and hadn't bothered to check on their sleeping children.

Kenneth was eventually taken to nearby Westchester Medical Center where he discovered his injury was much more serious than he expected - he realized that he had been shot in the head. Doctors quickly took him into surgery to have the .22 caliber bullet removed.

Luckily, the bullet had hit him in the jaw, narrowly sparing his life.

He was released from the hospital after eight days, but no one was arrested.

After one whole year without having any suspects or any arrests in the case, Kenneth revealed his suspicion.

According to The Journal News, Kenneth had long known that his wife, Emily, had a “lover whom she had been having an on-and-off-again extramarital affair with, since at early 2011.”

So he thought that the shooting may have been an attempt to get him out of the way, so she could enjoy a life with her lover.

He then filed a lawsuit in which he referred to the night as a “sadistic attack by the adulterous wife on her husband.”

Emily allegedly confessed to the crime and was charged with attempted murder a week after her husband filed the lawsuit. She pleaded guilty to the crime last week.

Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. said she faces up to 15 years in prison. She will be sentenced on June 7.

Emily's lover, who is a Texas man named Warren Roudebush, has not been brought up on any criminal charges related to the shooting.
