Panic As New UK Property Law May Force Nigerians To Lose Their Properties

Nigerians who own properties in the United Kingdom have inundated the Federal Ministry of Finance’s Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS) hotlines with calls, causing the lines to crash last Friday.

A source at the VAIDs office told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the unprecedented level of calls was not unconnected with the new UK regulation on Unexplained Wealth Orders (UWOs). The source disclosed that the VAIDs office have been receiving massive calls and frantic requests from taxpayers based in the UK in the last 72 hours, asking for extension of time to enable them complete their VAIDS declaration forms. The UK Government had last week introduced a new law that requires foreigners who own properties in the country to explain the source of their funds or risk forfeiting them to the government.

According to the new law, the UWOs could be obtained on any property or combination of properties valued at 50,000 pounds ( N25 million) or more, for which the owner is unable to explain a legal source of its funding.

The source said the data already in the possession of the VAIDS office in the Federal Ministry of Finance revealed that many UK property owners had underpaid their taxes before transferring funds overseas to buy properties.

“Concerted efforts are ongoing to restore the hotlines following the crash last Friday.

“Most of the calls received are from high net worth individuals, including company executives, bankers and even a governor.

“All seem to be in panic over the prospect of losing their investments,” said a source within the VAIDS Office. The official said some of the apprehensive Nigerian property investors in UK had even visited the Federal Ministry of Finance requesting to see the minister and also the Head of the VAIDS Office.

The source explained that most of the enquiries were about seeking assurance from the Nigerian government that the VAIDs programme could protect them from potential asset forfeiture to the UK Government.

Others requested to know if their names had appeared on the lists the VAIDS office had obtained from overseas.

The UWO law, coupled with the revelation that many foreign governments are automatically sharing bank and property information with Nigeria, has resulted in an upsurge in enquiries about VAIDs.

VAIDS allows Nigerian taxpayers to restate their income and assets without limit and thus could potentially allow those who own properties that cannot be explained by their previously declared income to regularise by declaring and paying the correct taxes.

Photos: Man Converts Empty Metal Drums To Seats Attachments So He Can Help Transport Kids To School In His Remote Village

In the remote Pilbara region a train snakes its way through the red dirt and spinifex, but the cargo is not what you would expect.

The Aboriginal community of Punmu, 700 kilometres east of Newman, has converted more than 20 metal drums into train carriages, providing a novelty way of encouraging kids to attend school.

About 40 students go to the local school, which has classes from pre-kindergarten to Year 12.

Punmu co-ordinator John Reudavey said the idea came to him while on holiday in Perth.

“I saw four drums being towed behind a ride-on mower and the parents were paying $2 for the kids to putt around the footy oval, and I just thought ‘What an awesome idea’,” he said.

“Obviously we had to make it more robust because of where we are and the conditions we live in.”

Mr Reudavey said the whole community had jumped on board the idea.

“In the morning it’s freezing cold, but to see three or four kids at each house standing out on the road shivering and waiting for the train to come past was an awesome sight.”

Challenge of getting kids to school on time
School principal Sarah Mortimer said the train greatly assisted some parents in the community.

“It’s something positive, it’s something safe and it makes it much easier for families that have younger children at home,” she said.

While the school attendance rate was already good, Ms Mortimer hoped the train would encourage the children to arrive on time.

“One of the challenges is getting the kids to school early and getting them to stay all day,” she said.

“You can say a child has 100 per cent attendance because they’re coming every day to school, but if they come at 10 o’clock that’s different to coming at 8 o’clock.”

Lady Who Died With 20year Old Singer Ebony Reigns Is her Lesbian Partner”

According to Mandynews.com a source who claimed to known the lady who traveled with Ghanaian dancehall artist, Ebony, was her lesbian partner.

The source stated that the girl called Franky Kuri was a well known lesbian in town, who left to America for greener pastures, but relocated to Ghana when things didn’t turn out right.

Read what she wrote about the late singer:

A friend of mine Dango Emmanuel was telling me just this morning that, he highly suspects that the lady with whom Ebony died is her lesbian partner.

So as a blogger, I should write on it… I refused simply because I have a strong traditional belief that ”we don’t spread lies about dead people”.

We have thence being debating on the issue, Dango made known his honest observations for the past one year and why arrived at that conclusion…but still I was hesitant to write on it.
It appears the girl who has been identified as Franky is the man in this relationship.

Moreso, what made me believe was that Ebony despite her ‘immoral nature’ has never opened up on who her boyfriend is…as a ‘spoilt girl’ (as that’s how we see her) of her caliber should sure have one she sleeps around with.

She went further to say:

Mind you, Ebony confessed herself that she really really loves s*x. As if that wasn’t enough, Ebony is always around this Franky lady…and Franky always dress like a man.

And you and I very well know what it means when two ladies are soooo close…with one dressing like a male?

The end of all this whole story is…

Mandynews has gathered information by a source who claims to be in the known that, the lady who traveled and died with Ghanaian dancehall artist, Ebony, was her lesbian partner.

According to the source, the girl called Franky Kuri is a known lesbian in town–and her for some months now, she has been in a low key relationship with Ebony.

The source said: “Ebony probably was a bi-s*xual as she was in a relationship in Kuri, a known lesbian.”

Ebony Reigns died during the early hours of Friday, February 9, on her way to Accra–after visiting her mother in the Brong Ahafo Region. She was accompanied by Franky Kuri, her alleged lesbian partner–and a military man who was with her in a car accident.

It was confirmed by several students that Franky Kuri who attended Holy Child School in Cape Coast in 2008 was indeed a lesbian.
