Hacking Allegations: PDP slams Presidency for falsely accusing it of hacking into President Buhari’s personal data

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has pilloried the Presidency for falsely accusing it of hacking into President Buhari’s personal data in the run up to the 2015 general election.

The party said President Buhari’s handlers decided to concoct the fabrications just to divert public attention from the overwhelming national and international rejection of their administration particularly the Bill Gates’ verdict on the economy.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement on Saturday, said the Presidency, in its haste to dish out lies, failed to realize that contrary to its claims, the report they relied upon did not even mention the PDP or any of its officials and that it even exonerated former President Goodluck Jonathan as having no knowledge of the alleged scam.

Since the PDP has never been involved in hacking into the any person’s data, we decided to peruse the documents and publications in the Guardian UK relied upon by President Buhari’s senior special assistant, Mallam Shehu Garba, only to discover that none of them alluded to any involvement of the PDP or any of our officials or members, directly or indirectly of being in any way whatsoever a part of the said saga.

It is incontrovertible that the documents had clinically stated that, “there is no suggestion that Jonathan knew of the covert operation.” Nigerians must therefore be shocked at the extent the Buhari-led Presidency can go in its penchant for beguiling, contrivance, deceit, fabrication and lies.

Like a bunch of famished broom, it is clear that the sinking Buhari Presidency has become desperate in its bid to divert public attention from its multifarious failures and damning verdicts from national and international figures.

Furthermore, it is laughable for the Presidency to say that the PDP is afraid of elections. This is the same Presidency that recently informed Nigerians that President Buhari was delaying his declaration for 2019 for fear of political opponents.

Who is afraid of election? Is it the PDP or the President’s All Progressives Congress (APC) that has failed to conform with its constitutional provision of constituting a Board of Trustees (BOT); a party which is so afraid to conduct even internal election and had to extend the tenure of its executives because its stuck 2019 presidential candidate is even afraid of other possible contestants within its fold?

From the actions of the APC, it is manifest that the party is not only mortally afraid of elections but engaging in all manner of shenanigans to suppress opposition in our nation.

Nigerians are aware of the show of shame in Kano state, earlier today, when the APC Federal Government, out of fear of our soaring support from Nigerians, used the police to attack our members and stopped our mega rally in Gaya Local Government Area of the state.

Our message to the Presidency and the APC is that lies, propaganda and use of force will not save them from the looming electoral disgrace as Nigerians are tired of their misrule and are now rallying on our repositioned PDP to salvage our nation come 2019

South Africa let me down during my impeachment - Robert Mugabe

Former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe says South Africa should have sent troops instead of a team of negotiators to prevent his ouster by the military last year.

Mugabe said his regional neighbours betrayed him “in a sense”, in an interview with the privately-owned Zimbabwe Independent newspaper and other regional and international media.

“When you look at their conditions, except for South Africa, they haven’t got the capacity to intervene. But South Africa could have done much more. It did not send an army, but just to engage” the 94-year-old is quoted as saying.

Mugabe who ruled Zimbabwe since independence from British colonial rule in 1980 was forced to quit when the military stepped in and ruling ZANU-PF lawmakers launched impeachment proceedings against their once beloved leader. He was replaced by Emmerson Mnangagwa, a favourite of the military, whom Mugabe had fired weeks earlier as his deputy in a move seen as paving way for his wife Grace to take over.

South Africa’s then-president Jacob Zuma had sent defence minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and the then state security minister Bongani Bongo to intervene in the impasse between Mugabe and the military.

Mugabe, who once quipped that he would rule until he turned 100, described his departure from office as a “coup d’etat. Those who created it have the responsibility to reverse it. If they don’t want to reverse it, it means they want the situation to continue which I think is the case. “They would want us perhaps to get to the national election when the environment is still very congested with fear, some people still hiding, displaced” he said in the interview.

Since his dramatic reversal of fortune, Mugabe has largely stayed out of public life

69-year old Indian politician, Lalu Yadav gets 14-year prison sentence for embezzling 37 million rupees

A powerful Indian politician, Lalu Prasad Yadav has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for embezzling 37 million rupees from a state government’s treasury while he was the state’s top elected official.

The politician was convicted of embezzling the equivalent of $570,000, to buy fictitious medicines and cattle fodder while he was chief minister of Bihar State from 1990 to 1997. Mr. Yadav, who already had been convicted three times in related cases, was also fined $92,307.

18 former Bihar State officials, contractors and suppliers were also sentenced in the case to jail terms ranging from three and a half to five years. Yadav, 69, who served as India’s railways minister from 2004 to 2009, was shifted to a hospital from a prison earlier this month, after he complained of chest pains in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand State.

Corruption is endemic in Indian politics, and judges are expediting trials of lawmakers accused of crimes including murder, fraud and extortion after a Supreme Court order to reach verdicts within one year in such cases.

About 15 percent of Indian lawmakers are facing court trials on criminal charges, according to the Association for Democratic Reforms, an activist group.

'I never left Psquare… I waited two months before moving on'' Paul Okoye says

In a new interview with The Nation, Paul Okoye of the now defunct group, PSquare, says he never left the group when his twin brother, Peter, opted out and that he moved on with his solo career after waiting for two months to see if the fallout could be resolved.

In the interview, Paul said “I never left and I don’t know why people keep asking me that. It might be the fourth time it’s happening but I always wait. But this time the difference is that I did not wait. So I don’t have issues on that.”

Speaking further, Paul said the earlier days of their separation was strange to him because he had never performed alone but now he is used to it

“There was a bit of a breakdown when it happened and everyone was in shock because usually when things happen like that, I wait for almost nine months. But this time, I had to move on with my life and under two months, it became normal for me. It’s the same old thing. There’s nothing new. The only part I know is different is performing alone because at the early stage I wasn’t used to it but now, I am used to it''.

Reacting to comments made by some Nigerians that himself and Peter have become upcoming artiste since their breakup, Paul said ''Well, they know who they are referring to. Like I said, nothing changed. If you listen, it is the same thing you have been listening to almost twenty years so I cannot go and discover a new thing. We are in the internet generation so people can say whatever they want. I know people are angry but there are some things that you cannot say; that is why it is family. If somebody did not pull out what they pulled out, you won’t know about anything. That is not me, and like I said, I don’t want to say anything about it. You might be doing your job but I have to protect what I have to protect''.

Peter left the group in 2017. He accused his brothers, Paul and Jude, of consistent disregard for his creative input in Psquare. He also accused Jude of always threatening his life.
