It's sad that this administration cannot point to any major projects initiated, started and completed' - Ben Bruce

Common sense senator, Ben Bruce is once again calling out the President Buhari led administration saying, 'It is sad that this administration cannot point to any major projects initiated, started and completed in the three years they have been in power except the Daura helipad. It is a weak leader who looks after himself. A strong leader will rather look after the people who he leads'.

He also said, 'In the last 3 years, some of us leaders built new houses for ourselves, yet we haven’t built new housing estates for the people. We‘ve bought new private jets yet Nigeria still does not have a national airline. This, in my opinion, is the greatest failure of leadership possible'.

Alleged assassination: ''Governor Wike enjoys immunity otherwise..…'' Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, has reacted to the allegation made by Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, that the Federal government is planning to assassinate him. Governor Wike at a thanksgiving service in Port Harcourt last Sunday May 20th said

“Intelligence report available to us as at this morning indicate that they are plotting to assassinate me in a crowd and claim it was accidental discharge. The level of conspiracy against Rivers State is unfortunate. Instead of focusing on governance, they focus on how to assassinate me or frame me up. I am not afraid because nobody can kill me. What is in me is greater than them”.

Reacting to the governor's claim, Lai Mohammed while speaking with state house correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting yesterday May 23rd, said Governor Wike's saving grace at the moment is the immunity he enjoys as a sitting governor because he would have been invited by security agents to explain the bases of such an allegation. Lai added that when he made such an allegation sometime ago, he was invited by security agents.

''As to the question about the allegation by the governor of Rivers State that he has information that he will be assassinated by the federal government in a crowd, I think one of the beauties of being a governor is that you enjoy immunity from prosecution and arrest. I remember a couple of years ago when I made similar allegations, I was invited to Force Headquarters” he said.

41 people abducted by unknown gunmen in Birnin Gwari

No fewer than 41 people have been abducted in Birnin Gwari local government area of Kaduna state in two separate attacks. According to reports, the abductions took place in the last 24 hours.

Confirming the abductions, the Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Danladi Idon Duniya, said a Sharon bus and a Golf 3 saloon that were travelling along the Birnin Gwari road were stopped by armed bandits and the 17 passengers were kidnapped.

In a related development, 24 people, mostly traders, who travelling in a commercial bus, were abducted near Labi village along the same route yesterday May 23rd. The victims were on their way to Kano to buy goods.

The NURTW chairman said reports reaching his office, claims that the kidnappers have taken all the 24 abductees into the bush, after forcing them to remove their clothes, while the women among them were forced to remove their veils.

The state police command is yet to react to this development.

Robert De Niro says Donald Trump is banned from Nobu restaurants worldwide

Actor and co-owner of the Nobu restaurant empire, Robert DeNiro, who is a frequent critic of President Trump, says he has banned him from all of his Nobu restaurants all over the world including one in Washington, D.C.

The 74-year-old legendary actor revealed this to MailOnline while discussing life as a superstar, restaurateur and hotelier with fellow founders Nobu Matsuhisa and Meir Teperduring the launching of the new Nobu Marbella Resort last week.

When asked who his dream dinner guest would be, Robert insisted he would never let Trump into any of the Nobu restaurants.

According to him: 'I don't care what he likes. If he walked into a restaurant I was in - I'd walk out.'

But the restaurant chain’s chef and co-owner, Nobu Matsuhisa, told the Daily Mail he’d rather see the president, 71, and the screen legend dine together

“It’s my dream for Trump to sit next to Bob,” Matsuhisa told the Daily Mail. “To make them sushi!”

De Niro has frequently spoken out against Trump in the past. In January, the actor called him a "f***ing fool, " and in March, DeNiro called the president an “idiot” who “lacks any sense of humanity or compassion.”

'Any leader who can’t perform should get out of office' - Obasanjo

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo today said any leader who cannot perform in office by providing leadership should get out of office.

Obasanjo, who spoke at the Lagos State University, LASU, Convocation lecture in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria said such a leader should not think of seeking re-election but to get out of office.

The former President, though, did not mention the name of President Muhammadu Buhari in his speech, but his words betrayed him and pointed to the president. Obasanjo spoke on the “Role of tertiary education in promoting social cohesion and peace: Opportunities and Challenges for Nigeria.” He said four needs were basic features anyone leading a country must be ready to bring to fore because they worked together.

According to him, “We need those four things. If for any reason, you, as a leader in any walks of life, you cannot give leadership, maintain good governance; you cannot understand what development is and maintain and cherish values within our cultures, you must ship out no matter any level of leader you are. If we continue with business as usual, our chances of development within the committee of nations will be very slim. We have to do things differently in Nigeria for us to get things right. If we do this, we will be reckoned with globally. But if we fail, the world will leave us behind. As a leader, you must be ready to Give, or get others to Give (delegate). And if you cannot do either of the two, you must Get out. If we don’t have them, we are deceiving ourselves. God has given Nigeria what it needs. But we will get there if we apply the three Gs,” he stated.

The former president stated that though the country had diversified ethic groups, the problem the nation had with diversity was lack of management which brought nepotism, favouritism and others into the polity, adding that diversity in the country’s ethnicity must not hinder equal treatment for all since everyone is citizens of the country.
