COVID-19 cases in Africa rise to over 11,900 with 608 deaths — WHO

The World Health Organization has revealed that confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Africa are now in excess of 11,900.


According to the new report by the WHO, Africa's most populous nation, Nigeria, has fewer cases when compared to less populated countries like South Africa, Algeria and Cameroon who continue to top the list of countries with the highest reported cases. While the second-lowest confirmed cases of COVID-19 countries in Africa are Gambia with four cases and one death and Sao Tome with zero deaths from four cases.


The World Health Organisation Regional Office for Africa, revealed the news on its official twitter account @WHOAFRO on Friday.

“COVID19 cases in Africa rise to over 11,900 – with 1,586 recoveries and 608 deaths reported,’’ it said.

COVID-19: No match is worth risking a life for, Football won't resume until things are 100% safe – FIFA

Football's world governing body, FIFA has revealed that football activities worldwide will not start until Coronavirus has ended and it becomes safe for people to attend public events and have mass gatherings, with FIFA President Gianni Infantino saying no 'match is worth risking a life for'



Infantino on Friday also said FIFA would help financially affected national football federations during the coronavirus pandemic as major leagues and competitions in the world have been halted causing a drastic stoppage of revenue streams.



FIFA last week postponed all international matches scheduled for June and also said players with expiring contracts this summer will have their contracts automatically extended.

“Our first priority, our principle, the one we will use for our competitions and encourage everyone to follow is that health comes first,” he said in a video message.

“I cannot stress this enough. No match, no competition, no league is worth risking a single human life.”

“It would be more than irresponsible to force competitions to resume if things are not 100% safe,” added Infantino.

“If we have to wait a little longer we must do so. It’s better to wait a little bit longer than to take any risks.”

“We are today in a very strong financial situation,” Infantino said.

“But our reserves are not FIFA’s money. It is football’s money. So when football is in need, we must think what we can do to help… It is our responsibility and our duty.”

Governor Bala Mohammed attends crowded Juma'at service after recovering from Coronavirus (photos)

Governor Bala Mohammed on Friday April 10, attended a crowded Juma’at service at the Bauchi Central Mosque barely 24 hours after he announced that he has recovered from Coronavirus.



The Bauchi state Governor who spoke at the Mosque, thanked people of the state for their support, prayers and sympathy throughout the period of his isolation.







The Juma'at service was attended by his deputy, Senator Baba Tela; Chief of Staff, Government House, Dr Ladan Salihu; state PDP Chairman, Hamza Koshe Akuyam, among others. He was received by the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Suleimanu Adamu as confirmed in a statement released by Governor Bala's Senior Special Assistant on Media, Muktar Gidado.

Mikel Obi confirms interest from Brazilian club Botafogo a month after leaving Trabzonspor over Coronavirus pandemic

Former Super Eagles of Nigeria and Chelsea player John Mikel Obi has confirmed he is discussing a possible deal with Brazilian club Botafogo over a month since he left Turkish club Trabzonspor over the Coronavirus pandemic.


Mikel, 32, left Turkish club Trabzonspor by mutual consent in February after declaring that he did not feel comfortable playing during the COVID-19 pandemic while people were getting infected and dying all over the world and it hasn't taken long for him to start getting new offers


Mikel is now in regular contact with Botafogo boss Ricardo Rotenberg and hopes to iron out a deal when the Coronavirus pandemic is over.



Mikel speaking to ESPN about Botafago's interest in signing him, said: "Yes there has been interest and yes there has been negotiations.

"But I don't know yet. I am still thinking about it. Not sure yet."

Floyd Mayweather's daughter Yaya faces up to 99-Years in prison for stabbing NBA YoungBoy's babymama

Retired American boxer, Floyd Mayweather's 19-year-old daughter could spend decades in prison after being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following an altercation with her boyfriend NBA YoungBoy's baby mama.



Iyanna "Yaya" Mayweather, 19, pictured left, was arrested earlier this month after allegedly stabbing Lapattra Jacobs, who shares a child with her boyfriend, rapper NBA YoungBoy.







An altercation which reportedly occurred at the rapper's Houston home on Saturday April 4, prompted a physical fight between the women. It was reported while arguing the two women made their way into the kitchen of Youngboy's Houston home, where Mayweather picked up a knife and stabbed the Jacobs in the arms.



Iyanna Mayweather was arrested and booked into Harris County Jail after her alleged victim was rushed to a nearby hospital and underwent emergency surgery on her arms.



According to The Blast, Mayweather was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a felony that can carry a heavy sentence. If convicted on the charge, Mayweather could be slapped with a $10,000 fine or receive up to 99 years in prison.



The Blast also added that it's unlikely she will receive the maximum sentence, as she doesn't appear to have a criminal history.







Mayweather is being represented by Kurt Schaffer, a famed attorney who has worked for celebrities like Slim Thug, Pimp C, and J Prince among others.



"Iyanna is doing fine; although she remains shaken by this unfortunate incident," Schaffer told Bossip.



The attorney confirmed Mayweather will plead not guilty to the charge and he expects her to be "fully vindicated." Mayweather is reportedly due back in court in August.
