''My children's abductors have asked for £100, 000 ransom'' - Father of twin children abducted in Oyo state one week ago, reveals

It's been one week since the two year old twin children of popular Oyo state Islamic cleric, Sheik Taofeeq Akewugbagold, were abducted from their home in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

The cleric who disclosed the kidnap in a post on his Facebook page in the early hours of Sunday April 26, announced that his children, a boy and a girl, were kidnapped at gunpoint at his Ojoo residence on Saturday night, April 25.

The spokesperson of the state police command, SP Fadeyi Olugbenga, who confirmed the incident to LIB, said efforts are being made by the state operatives to locate the abductors and rescue the children alive. However it's been one week now and the twins are still with their abductors.

LIB reached out to children's father, Taofeeq Akewugbagold, who disclosed that the abductors have contacted him and are demanding for £100, 000 ransom for their release.

''We have been contacted and we have been exchanging conversations with the abductors. We are begging them on a daily basis to reduce the ransom. They have asked for £100, 000 which is N55 million. Since then we have been begging them and I believe they will consider our plea.

The abductors speak good English meaning they are graduates. They were first harsh but later very friendly. It is very unfortunate. I am appealing to the government to wake up to their duty. If things continue like this, only God knows what will happen.'' he said

Sheik Taofeeq said the mother of the twins who waited for 12 years before giving birth to them, has been terribly ill since the incident happened. She did a video few days ago weeping as she appealed to the abductors of her children to release them.

''We have been moving their mother from one hospital to the other since that day while for me, I am just trying to control myself because it is raising my BP. I put my hope in Almighty Allah.'' he said

The cleric said the abductors have also sent him pictures of his children ''looking sad'' .

''They sent their pictures to us and we studied it and saw it was not photoshopped. The children looked sad. One was crying while the second one's eye was swollen. It is an experience I can never pray for my worse enemy. I need my children'' he said

LIB tried reaching out to the state police command spokesperson to ascertain if there is any progress in the search for the twins but he was unavailable to pick our calls.

A 74 year old New York City surgeon, Dr. Manuel Bulauitan (far right above) who got hit with a "severe form" of Coronavirus and was on a ventilator twice has survived against all odds after his three sons who are all medical doctors assisted him in his recovery.

Dr. Manuel Bulauitan, says his three doctor sons rushed to his side after their family noticed on FaceTime in mid-March that he was sick.

His sons were scared that their father who had suffered from chronic anemia and hypertension, and had two intubations, would not make it and believe he contracted COVID-19 at one of the hospitals or nursing homes where he worked.

Two of his sons, Dr. Philippe Bulauitan and Dr. Manuel Bulauitan Jr., both family medicine doctors in North Carolina, flew to his bedside on March 20 and took him to Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where the oldest son, Major Dr. Constantine Bulauitan, an Army Reserve and trauma surgeon, works.

"I am grateful that I'm here and my deepest thanks to all the medical professionals – from attending doctors and nurses – [they] are deep in my heart," Bulauitan who was on a ventilator for 15 days, told Fox News on Friday.

"They tell me it's a miracle I survived."

"I became very emotional," Bulauitan Sr. recalls. He remembers hearing his son reassure him that he was cared for, while holding his hand.

"We grew up being inspired and admiring our dad for how he served his community and how hard he works," His son, Dr. Philippe Bulauitan told Fox News. "And for us, the ultimate sign of respect is that all three of us followed in his footsteps. For someone who has cared for us our entire lives, to have the opportunity to help care for him and help save his life, it was the best thing we could’ve done."

Bulauitan Sr. adds, "I think I am one of the luckiest survivors to have three doctors as sons and have them care for me. Especially the Almighty. I thank him."

'Going through the virus was a dark place that he said he wouldn't wish on anyone as it "sucked the hell out of me."

"This virus took me out of my practice that I love the most," he said. "Since I was a boy I wanted to be a doctor and a surgeon and here I am."

Bulauitan, a devout catholic added, "I even questioned God. 'Why did you save me?' Do you have plans for me? Whatever plans you have, I will accept it.'"

For the past 40 years, he has gone to the Philippines to help with doing surgeries in rural areas and says he could continue.

"If God wants me to continue that, I will do it," he said.

"I'm most proud of how our entire family came together," added his son, Dr. Philippe Bulauitan, who also tested positive along with his brother as they cared for their parents. "How we helped each other and how we can depend on one another."

Bulauitan Sr.'s road to recovery isn't over. Philippe's wife, Leah, who is a physical therapist, is helping him at their home in North Carolina so he can start walking better.

"Now the hardest part is to get back to my feet. I will do everything I can to stop this horrible coronavirus," he concludes. "I was always independent my whole life and I want to go back to that so I can enjoy my four grandchildren."

Ganduje asks FG to relax curfew in Kano state

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has asked the federal government to relax the curfew imposed in Kano state following reports of mysterious deaths in the state.

Ganduje made the appeal while inaugurating a panel of experts led by the president of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria Musa Borodo, to support the state task force technical committee.

The Kano state Governor said relaxation of the curfew became necessary because people are running out of food.

Ganduje said;

“We would engage the presidential task force on COVID-19 to seek permission to relax the total lockdown imposed on Kano.

“We are making this appeal on behalf of our people who are presently running out of food items. We would love the federal government to relax the lockdown for a period of time to enable people stock their homes, especially now that majority of us are fasting. It will also ease the economic hardship in the state.”

Though the NCDC has activated a second Coronavirus test center in Kano state, the state currently has 219 confirmed cases of Coronavirus

113 Nigerian health workers have tested positive for COVID-19 – Minister of Health, Ehanire Osagie

The Minister of Health, Ehanire Osagie has disclosed that 113 Nigerian health workers have tested positive for Coronavirus.

The Minister revealed this while responding to questions at the daily Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 briefing on Thursday April 30. Osagie said the infected health workers represent about 6 per cent of the total 1,728 infected persons.

Osagie said;

“Latest figures we have is that there are about 113 people in the health sector infected with COVID-19. Although they are not all public health workers, there are good numbers from private hospitals.

“If you hear us speaking here frequently against trying to treat coronavirus in private clinics, we are actually referring to those people who do so without having necessary precautions and training because they risk infecting themselves and go home and give this infection to their family.

“Healthcare workers who have no training have no business handling coronavirus."
