Emir of Biu dies at 79

 

The Emir of Biu in Borno State, Alhaji Mai Umar Mustapha Aliyu, is dead.

 

The monarch died at the Federal Medical Center Gombe after a brief illness on Monday night, September 14.

 

Born on the 9th of November 1940 in Biu, the late monarch attended Kwaya Kusar Junior Primary School between 1947 and 1949. He later went to Biu Central Primary School from 1950 to 1953. He thereafter proceeded to Hausari Primary School in Maiduguri between 1953 and 1955.
 

The deceased was at various times a Veterinary attendant, a member representing Biu Emirate at the Borno State Council of Arts and Culture, and District Head of Biu town from 1975 to 1989 when he became the Emir of Biu.

 

He left behind four wives, over 70 children, and 200 grandchildren.

 

May his soul rest in peace, Amen.

Superstar singer, Davido has slammed a follower who made a rude comment about his son.

 

The singer had shared a photo of him and his son with the caption "Junior". Following the comment his follower dropped on the photo, Davido fired back by saying the commenter's own child will be a future broke boy.

Abuja-Kaduna train allegedly attacked by bandits

 

An Abuja-Kaduna train reportedly suffered a bandit attack on Monday September 14. 

 

Some social media users who shared the story, said the attack went on for 20 minutes before the security operatives on the train repelled the attack.

My colleagues were met with shock of their lives today as bandits brazenly attacked and opened fire on the Abuja-Kaduna train. They said, the fight went on for 20 minutes. But our brave security apparatus attached to the train did well in repelling them.

Nollywood actress, Chika Ike has reacted to rumours of dating her colleague Regina Daniels' husband, Ned Nwoko.

 

The rumour came off a viral video in which it was alleged that Regina Daniels' mother, Rita threatened to go spiritual if Chika Ike does not stop trying to snatch her daughter's husband. 

 

Reacting to the rumour in a question and answer session with her fans on social media, Chika Ike denied dating Ned Nwoko and said that she is not ready to become any man's 7th wife.

Vice Chancellor and students locked out as ASUU and NASU members protest in Lagos State University (photos)

 

Academic activities at the Lagos State University LASU failed to resume today September 14 as aggrieved members of four unions in the institution barricaded the entrance of the school preventing the Vice-Chancellor and students from gaining access into the premises.

The unions involved in the protest included the Academic Staff Union of Universities, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Non-Academic Staff Union, and the National Association of Academic Technologists.

 

The aggrieved members were protesting the? non-payment of the salary increment promised them by the Lagos State Government over a year ago. They claim? other government workers have received the increment but all the tertiary institutions in Lagos State were yet to be included.

 

All attempt by the Vice-Chancellor to dialogue with NLC, ASUU and NASU members was not successful, as they insisted that no one will be allowed into the university premises until their demands are met by the state government.

 

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu two weeks earlier announced that tertiary institutions in the state will be reopened today, September 14, 2020, after being shut for six months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mailafia honors DSS' third invitation, says 'if I perish I perish'

 

Former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Obadiah Mailafia has honoured the invitation of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Jos, the Plateau state capital for the third time.

 

The economist turned politician had gotten the invitations over his claim of a northern Governor being one of the commanders of Boko Haram. 

 

Mailafia arrived the DSS office with some of his supporters who held up placards with different inscriptions calling for an end to his interrogation by security agents on Monday September 14.

 

Speaking at the DSS office, he said he honored the invitation to show that he is a law abiding  citizen of Nigeria and to clarify whatever issues the security officials had with him.

 

Mailafia said; 

 

“I do not know why I have been invited yet again. This has nothing to do with politics. I spoke as a citizen of this country, who loves the people of this country.

“I am the voice of thousands of voiceless people; Muslim youths have taken me as their voice, Christian youths have taken me as their voice; thousands of people have been killed in this country, in Borno, in Yobe, in Adamawa, in Katsina, in Daura, in Birnin-Gwari, in Zamfara, in Niger, in Southern Kaduna, in Benue, in Plateau, all over the country.

“Even the other day, a pregnant woman was killed in Bayelsa. I am the voice of the holy martyrs, and if I perish, I perish.”

Yoshihide Suga picked to succeed Shinzo Abe as Japan's next Prime Minister

 

Japan's governing party has elected Yoshihide Suga as its new leader to succeed Shinzo Abe, paving the way for him to become the country's next prime minister.

 

The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) confirmed on Monday, September 14, that Suga easily won the internal vote to become the successor to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who announced in August that he would step down due to health problems.

 

Mr. Suga, 71, who serves as chief cabinet secretary in the current administration took 377 of a total of 534 votes from lawmakers and regional representatives. He saw off two other contenders, Fumio Kishida, a former foreign minister, and Shigeru Ishiba, a former LDP secretary-general, and one-time defense minister.

 

Following his election as LDP leader, Suga vowed to work hard for Japan. 

 

"I was born as the oldest son of a farmer in Akita," Suga said. "Without any knowledge or blood ties, I launched into the world of politics, starting from zero - and have been able to become leader of the LDP, with all its traditions and history."

 

"I will devote all of myself to work for Japan and its citizens," he added.

 

Suga is expected to be officially made the country's next prime minister on Wednesday, September 16.
