Over 500 African migrants including pregnant women and children rescued in the Mediterranean Sea
554 African migrants were rescued in the Mediterranean Sea in a 24 hour hour operation conducted by Red Cross and Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS) teams.
A rubber boat and a wooden boat were spotted last night, after having been adrift at sea for over 20 hours. Fortunately, everyone was recovered in relatively good shape, considering the situation.
Wednesday morning, another three rubber boats, heavily overcrowded with people, were rescued. Among them were several young children, including a month-old baby, and several pregnant women.
The operations ran smoothly considering the rough weather today and everyone is in good health and being cared for by the Red Cross medical team. The Responder is now sailing North to Italy with the rescued people on board.
