Easter Day Killing: Group hails Abia Govt, security personnel, urges FG to intervene

A group, Umu-Aba Connect, has commended the efforts of the Abia State Government led by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and the security personnel in the state on their efforts in securing Aba... With the Easter Day killing of two kidnappers and arrest of One.

The group in a statement made available by its Vice President, Mr. Chima Desmond Anyaso, however, called on the federal government to intervene and put a stop to the problem by providing adequate logistics for the security agents in the state to arrest the situation.

According to the statement, “From our findings the security agents are left with little or no logistics to tackle this menace and this is why the members of Umu-Aba Connect wish to express our sadness with the various kidnapping incidents in Aba.

The group also advised the security agencies in city and environs to work together in order not to allow Aba return to the days of kidnapping and other violent crimes which made people to flee the city.

“We also want to also use this medium to call on the residents of our great city Aba, to support security agents by giving information of suspected individuals and movements within their neighbourhoods.

Since January 2016, the group disclosed that kidnappers had devised a means of escaping with their victims without confrontation with the security agents. “We encourage all residents of our dear city to join the fight to make Aba a safe city.

The prominent Umu-Aba Connect group promised to support the state government and security agents on possible areas of assistance to get rid of kidnappers and other atrocities in the city and beyond.

The group also urged the state and federal government not to relent on the issue, saying “no one would want to witness the kidnapping incidents which swept through Aba between 2009 and 2010. Many people who were seized by the kidnappers lost their lives while others paid ransom before regaining freedom. Aba, then, became a ghost town.”
